Originally its from a 1950's Sci Fi flick - \"The Day The Earth Stood Still\"...it was a saying an alien guy with a giant robot used....sorta like \"live long & prosper\" I believe it meant
Then in the 3rd sequel to \"The Evil Dead\" series, \"Army of Darkness\" they stole the saying as a campy reference/inside joke ....the hero had to recite those words befor retreaving the book of the dead from a graveyard so he could save humanity...except he couldnt remember the exact phrase, thus awakening the army of the daed (great \"stupid fun\" movie)

Also, in the early 70's there was a rock group named \"Klatu\" that was rumored to be the secretly reformed Beatles (they weren't)
