  • Dude. I'd give my left orb to play like Ann Wilson, or anything like her. But just trying to sing - especially when I stand next to the songbird - makes me consider croaking out Bob Dylan songs instead of trying to sing anything intelligible.
I guess chix just aren't as into the music/rock star/etc thing. They can get lei'd without it. :?
Besides, the rockin' git'rist chick is a rare animal indeed. Most chix that're into performing are typically going to be singers, kb'its, etc, though are surely many chix that rawk on drums, or bas/git'r. And even fewer are going to be tech-oriented, so that's up to the guys to do (when they're not chasing groupies).

+1. The GNX is one of the tastiest FX devices there is, yet there's only a handful of us that hang around here to discuss it? And where else can you go to get such scintillating discussion on the fairest of us all???

I dunno about that... my bass player suggested that we get one of the singers to play guitar for some instrumentals, etc. The princess is all about it; in fact she wants me to teach her. But my point being, a lot of chicks have some interest in playing rock guitar, even if her favorite artist is Alicia Keys... (again, )

    Dood. \"Alicia Keys\" and \"rock guitar\" don't even belong in the same sentence. It's like \"rap\" and \"actual music\".
Maybe you should give HER the ho' smack-down routine.

Well, her voice works well for Alicia, but not so much for AC/DC. She did try though, it was an admirable effort.
  • :? Sounds like you feel outta place in a chick band? I would feel the same. Sounds like thats what they need to evolve into.
I personaly find playing songs correctly first then perhaps altering them to fit my style alot more challenging and rewarding as a musician. Not playing them correctly because it too hard means you might need to pick a diffrent tune ... but thats just me and how I roll.
  • I played/co-managed a chick band and it wasn't so bad :D until they all ovulated at the same time  :x You couldn't give a 4 count without an emotional outburst or.....two  That band could of been \"IT\" but egoes took over as their popularity grew :( Makes me wonder how groups like \"the Donnas\",\"Kittie\",or heck....even the \"Go-Go's\" made it to their 2nd albums :?

I gotta say.....some of the female fronted scandinavian metal bands are KICKA$$!!! :D

i think Shredd has the intelligence to make this group work as well as it ever will 8) Sadly, the odds are against him for any long term playability....i sincerely hope my suspicions are wrong.

I jammed with a bunch of guys at my studio last friday and it sure felt good to interact again :D:D:D
  • 10 - 15 sorry I was trying to be generous

Ann Wilson :D especially in the early days, when she sported them glamour length nails! I was always like how the... is she doing that. Just seen The Donnas (Allison Robertson, now sportin' an explorer) with The Hives last month one heck of a good line up and show. I can now count to 4 in Swedish! LoL

Though I like chick rockers it seems that they don't reach the level of success country chicks get. It seems like they peek then they just go away. I don't know if that is the record companies casting them aside to make room for the next big thing or what. Maybe that could be a new topic.

I'm gonna do my best. I don't think this is the kind of group that's gonna \"go places\" - especially with the bassist we have. So I'm taking it for what it's worth, which is playing time, exposure, and time hanging out with hotties. Not such a bad deal, for putting up with the occasional ovulation-induced emotional outburst.
  • Donttouchthegirls.gif

I've done my part to not chase away any tail. :?
  • I actually got to see Ann and Nancy in concert back in the early 1980's. Heart was past their moment of glory from the 1970's, but they still put on a good show. Year's later the girls had another rebirth with some really good work. Those girls knew how to play some good music. I also saw Joan Jett and the Blackhearts somewhere in the mid-late 1980's. They were playing a small movie theather locally, but they really rocked hard for us. Again, another strong female musician. Seeing the girls play live and rocking hard is a bit different than the selling of them as soft pop stars/sexy women singers you might expect to push some albums. So I wish more women were involved with the bar/club band scene around here. I am sure it is not lack of talent that keeps them at home. Take care.

My wife once made me watch a special on TV with Celine Dion. Celine did a cover of one of AC/DC's songs. It was so painful to watch that I have a mental block as to what song it was. I still am not over that gut wrenching experience. Painful. Enough said. Best wishes.

Well, it was funny. Our bassist wants to do an AC/DC song, just for the checkmark, and our male vocalist can't hit the high notes. So we had the girl try it.

She was a good sport. She looked up the lyrics, listened to the song (Back in Black, Thunderstruck, You Shook Me All Night Long, maybe another one or two). Some notes are too high even for her (alto). The others sound like, well... shouting. It's not bad, kinda sexy even I'd say, but it just doesn't work for her voice.
  • Well at least I think we all agree that the Lady rockers can make us just as wet. And I also know how down and dirty they can talk. When my younger sisters hit their teens, I was amazed at how they talked about guys, and they were very graphical about it. So I do know the flip side of the coin on that.

I prefer it that way. After 19+ years of marriage those days are few and far between. Take care.
  • Welllll....look at it this way, 'taus. If her character is ever on trial, you can always cite husband abuse vis-a-vis the forced Celine Dion incident...
  • Celine Dion may be good at singing her ballads, but not AC/DC. I was OK suffering through most of her songs because she is a good singer, I just don't prefer that type of music personally. But when she tried to sing the AC/DC song, that was too much for me. I guess at that point it did become husband abuse.

Maybe the point is that your songbird may be great singing her acoustic songs, but perhaps asking her to rock out on the vocals may not be in her, or your, benefit. Singers have their limits too. I know some great singers that sing well in one style of music, but can't cross over to other styles. I guess we all have strengths and weaknesses as musicians. Don't ask me to play bluegrass on the guitar - it won't happen. Best wishes.
  • OK, guyz, back to me. :?

    There's a new \"development\" in my chick-band situation.
You already heard that my ex has a new b/f. She's all giddy in love and so on, so she isn't getting any better playing her bass. Like I care.

Then there's the songbird. I'm sure I've mentioned that besides her talents, she's as hott as a bad sunburn. MmMmGood.
Anyway, while my focus is on playing, I'd have jumped at the chance to jump on her.
Turns out she's found herself a boy-toy - young - who'll play the game by her rules. He doesn't care, since he gets to get jiggy w/her in exchange for being a pliant boy-toy.

Now I'm not sayin' that I'd be her whippin' boy for a chance at her pantaloons, but I have to say that I'm feelin' a little \"fifth wheel\". We're practicing last night, and it's the 3 of us, and their two boyfriend/boytoys hanging out. We finish playing, my ex takes off with her b/f, and the songbird (whose house we play at) hangs with me while I pack up my gear, while the boy-toy sits on the couch drooling down his toothless chin waiting for me to leave so he can jump her. :?

And I drove home thinking: I may be a better musician than the two of them put together, yet I can't get a second date...and these two chix have guys beating their doors down.
What ever happened to playing git'r cuz chix dig it?!?
  • thats BRUTAL dude! :(

    have patience \"Grasshopper\" :P .........next month......he'll be sooooo \"last month\" :wink::lol:

    THANKS. I needed that. 8)
  • Wrong chicks Shredd. Only the chicks who don't play, play with the gtr/slingers!
You were only invited due to your connection with your ex, yes?
Is it safe to assume that the ' boys ' don't play? Or if they do, they suck and it is to close to the wedding to incorporate them.
As long as it isn't your family, their may be a few chicks at the wedding who will shine up to ya. If not only for the fact that you are standing up there in the spot light and holdiing that long fret board in your hand! Heck one of them may say screw this C/music, lets go out to my car I need a Rush fix! :D 8)

A-HAH!!! Wisdom of the ages, which has heretofore eluded me.
I guess I got asked to play with these chix partly cuz of my ex knowing I can play well, and partly...well, I guess that's it. They know I can play better than both of them, and wanted to tighten up the act a bit for this wedding thing.
No, the \"boys\" don't play, they listen.
I'm definitely looking forward to the wedding - it's a friend of my ex's and it's gonna be a big one. There's gotta be a single woman SOMEwhere in that crowd. And just maaaaybe she'll be a closet RUSH fan.
And if nothing else, I get to play some different stuff (I think C/W counts as music, right?? ), and listen to the songbird sing (she's awesome) and look at her (she's HOTT).

I love A C/DC but even Brian Johnson has'nt been able to hit those \"BACK IN BLACK era\" high range tunes IN A LONG TIME. Its sad really... ever hear him live lately, sounds like he's gargleing glass. Its very painful to listen to...

    8) Bon Scott rules 8) hIS RANGE JUST STOMPS ALL OVER MINE BUT i CAN SQUEEK OUT a few tunes your guys should be able to as well. I can barely hit a high C so I choose \"jaILBREAK\", RIDE ON, Dirty deads & THE JACK. all very doable for the average singer (like me).
  • Bon Scott was da man. AC/DC shoulda hung it up after he was gone. Zep could replace Bonham, great as he was, but Bon was one of a kind. :(

I disagree. Even though Bon was incredible, Back in Black was one the best albums ever made.
  • If AC/DC quit after Bon, two/three of their most successful albums/songs wouldnt exist.

OK, so...I'm 'old school'. I just never dug Brian Johnson, and while they wrote some great songs after he got there, he still can't hold Bon's ball s_ck.
