  • My wife pre orders tickets for us!! never changes the radio station and goes to every show!! She likes matchbox 20 but is amazed by DT and Rush!

 Well, you're one up on me, but at least I have Shredd beat. :P
  • She likes Queensryche, 80's metal and others but not Metallica and Pantera.. Death metal is out of the question.. Bhhhhhaaawww swigggggggg hoooooooooooo Dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Ahhhhwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ( that's the chorus) behind 64 th beats at 150 bpm Diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeee
  • Death metal chicks are scary anyway. My wife likes 80's metal, but she has no patience for prog music of any kind. Well, maybe some Floyd, but none other.
    Is your wife a musician?
It's funny that we spoke of \"hooks\" within a song at the other forum because that's exactly the reason that my wife doesn't like DT. She says there aren't any danceable parts or lyrics/melodies that she can sing to.
  • shred i need the list of the songs on
    \"RUSH For Beginners\", \"RUSH For Intermediates\", and \"Advanced RUSH\".

plus must be nice to be able to watch score :( i just got back from my supper break and well no one in this town has gotten any in to purchase. I was looking forward to watching it too.. might have to download it till i can buy it he hehe

Meh. You guys are hurting my feelings...you not only have real live breathing wives, you've got superbabes that dig quality tune-age.
The only way I'm going to survive this is if they both look like the love child of John Goodman and Agatha Christie.

From your description of where you live, that'll still be a step up. :P

Get out of purgatory and move to Rio. If their concert was any indication, you'll find many Rush loving hotties.
As far as chicks liking DT, I have my doubts. I just watched \"Score\" and my wife was not impressed. Heck, she even told me that this is not music that she even remotely likes. As much as I love her, the good thing is that she's not allowed to pick what I listen to. I used to be a Rush addict, but now DT is tops. 8)
I'm trying to get your advice thru my dense skull. Where I live ain't helpin' me find my dream babe. Considering my flaws, I need a \"target-rich\" environment. And while there's a few fine ones here, me don't stand a chance amongst the competition.... :?
I don't think Rio is a good choice for me - the hotties in that vid are all 17, and I'm a little too pretty to be in a South American prison!
Don't forget that tour was about 2004, and they hadn't ever had a RUSH show there, after digging them since 1975. I'd be going nuts too.
But I sure would like to find somewhere in between!!!
Your wife not diggin' the DT show is exactly what I'm talking about. You probably love her BECAUSE she doesn't pick your music! If only I'd grown up hooked on Def Leppard and Bon Jovi, maybe I'd have scored a hott one for myself......

Rub it in why dontcha?!? :?
  • Sorry dude, but raggin' on you does make me feel better about myself.
A lot of my friends go to Rio often. They say that the girls are hot and love American men. It doesn't get any more target rich than that. If that's not enticing for someone in your environment, I suggest that you join a monastary.

If the chicks in that vid were 17 and it was shot in 2004, they're now 19. Come on man, that's simple math. I'm beginning to think that you aren't trying to get a woman...

There were some women in the DT video, but they were in the family section. Any others were probably dragged there by their boyfriends.

Great sets; 'Beginners\" was designed particularly for people who are always saying things like \"I can't stand that guys' voice\" or \"their music doesn't make any sense\". The set is full of stuff that's easy to listen to, understand, and like.
Intermediates and Advanced came years later, when I found that I knew people who liked RUSH, but never went farther than the few toons they liked. These got them into it.
I used some song \"segments\" in these albums, but don't have specific times or anything. You'd probably come up with your own mods. I'd send you copies, but I'm pretty sure these guys copyrighted their songs.
So, any of you guys wanna do this for me, with D/Theater?? Here's your chance to christen a DT virgin!!!
BTW Atkins - Nova Scotia?? And I thought I lived in the middle of nowhere!!!
  • Nova Scotia?? And I thought I lived in the middle of nowhere!!!

    Sorry shredd,but Nova Scotia,is \"outer edge\" of nowhere
Regina is the \"middle\" of nowhere

Yeah, well, if I was married to an adoring hottie, I 'spose I'd be ragging guys like me too...
I really do want a real live woman. I just can't afford to go to Rio whenever I feel like it and I'm too old to get with teenage hotties.
Add that to the fact that I have some integrity and self-respect...I'd like to get a woman who is not only an adoring hottie, but has some character herself and can treat a man decently (can you tell my last coupla g/f's eventually revealed themselfs to be insane??:? ).
So that ain't makin' it any easier...
  • The secret to happiness is to lower your standards. They only make you disappointed. Lower your standards, then it's all good. 8) That's not saying lose your standards.
You've considered mail-order brides, haven't you? Don't lie. You did, didn't you?

Welllll...I don't wanna marry that John Goodman/Agatha Christie love child type. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be happy with THAT.
Can't lie - I sure have considered it. I'd actually do it, but I haven't been able to translate the pre-nup into Russian. :?

A hottie that dug RUSH would DEFinitely get my attention.
Thanks for the links - excellent vids. Some of that (\"Score\") I saw recently on TV, they played a bunch of it. That's what got me started on this thread. JP really scorched, and I thought I should try this stuff out again.
Problem is...I'm having the same problem. A lot of their tunes are so complex, so trippy, so heavy, that they're pretty inaccessable, even to a RUSH-head like me. That's why I'm asking all you guys to send me suggestions, links, etc.
So. Got a RUSH-lovin' hottie for me?? 8)
  • man did you see the bass player on that yste jam---all over it

    tHOSE GUYS ARE TIGHT
  • you guys gotta check out Score. even if you dont like DT, if you like music and you have a soul, u gotta see it.
  • Hey Shredd,
Sorry I don't have any RUSH-lovin' hotties but
I do have some more vids for ya.
There ya go just tell me what parts you like and that will help me find a good album starter for you.
Well, it's not like they crawl outta the woodwork or anything. I'm just trying to have hope....
Anyway...thanks for doing all the legwork and posting the vid links. I ck'd out all the vids. Some I just didn't like, some I really liked, some I liked parts:
    I liked \"I walk beside you\", \"Hells Kitchen\", and Another day\".
I also liked YTSE Jam and Erotomania, but both were a little to intense and trippy for me. Same thing with Overture 1928.
I guess I don't like the stuff that's so complex or so technically-based that I have to pay attention too hard to enjoy it...
I'd rather lay on a soft bed and let my adoring RUSH-loving hottie rub my back.
  • That's the thing about Dream Theater. The songs that you like are \"gateway\" songs. They catch you right away and you can listen to them in your car. The other songs that are an earful are the ones that you'll end up listening to in between. Suddenly, one day they'll make sense and you'll be hooked. If you like Rush, it's the same process.
I can't imagine anyone diving into Rush after listening to La Villa Strangiato the first time, but being that we're used to it, it's really a beatiful piece with lots to discover each time that you listen to it.
A lot of people that I know still haven't figured Rush out, but you did, so I think there's still hope of you becoming a DT addict as well. 8)
  • just cause someone said death metal chicks are not hot .... has anyone here seen the singer for Arch Enemy She is gorgeous and wow she can sing like the best of the death metal bands
  • \Atkins\ wrote:

    Did someone say that??
As for me...a hot chickie I can dig, I don't care what she sings or wears or whatever. But listening to Death Metal? Not for me. I'd give my short hairs to get with Nina Gordon, but I sure as hell don't want to listen to her sing either.

Yeah, 'wild, you get it. \"Gateway\" songs are the ones I call \"accessable\", meaning you can groove on it even if you haven't turned on to the group yet. I'm not up to La Villa with DT yet. I'll have to learn to like them first. But I sure love the way JP plays, the drummer is great, bass player too. They're a good group. Just too into orchestral weirdness for me. Yet.
The irony is: guess what nice, simple 'gateway' tune got me hooked on RUSH? \"Xanadu\"!
  • I was in Sound Control here in London UK with my kid getting strings or something one day earlier this year and they had a stage set up and quite a crowd started amassing, then who gets up on the stage and starts ripping it part with his guitar like nobody's business? Yes, it was the one and only Mr Petrucci. He also gave a clinic too. Amazing, we just popped in for strings :D

    TY

Yeah, that musta been right after he stopped in to my place to jam.
I mean, holy COW! What an amazing thing. You don't get many chances to see soemthing like that, and least of all out of the blue. Timing is everything, right?? Didja get a pic?
BTW TY - since you're over there in the UK, d'ya s'pose you could stop by Elizabeth Hurley's house and tell her how much I love her?? 8)
  • Man you are so lucky just walk into a music shop and one of the
greatest guitarist is just jamming out. I wish I could do that :(

Anyways Shredd I think the first album you should get is
Images & Words because it has a lot of accessible parts I
think you will like. After that I say get either Octavarium
    or Falling Into Infinity.

As for those trippy and technical parts you do get use to those
and will eventually start to like them.

Thanks - a lot of guys are saying that images & words is a good starting place. I'll look into picking it up. Hopefully I'll get into their complex style, so I can go on into other stuff; at this point it's almost \"too hard\" too listen to it. Or else I'm just too lazy.
