Well, I am glad you got to read my response.
I was afraid my \"look away...I am a hideous monster\" story killed the thread.
So...I got out my bucket of white ink remover and scrubbed most of that post off the screen. :? :P

I'll go check out this new nugget you provided.
I shoulda left.... you are our forum's brightest gem on the screen.
  • Tal rules, since you may go into re-retirement, I could offer you 500 dollars of my hard earned money for your ES-175. Thanks for your consideration on this matter. he he he he

    Hi Mike...
Naw I'll pass. But thanks for the offer man...:lol::lol:

    Nope Manitou...
You are the forums brightest gem...
Anybody that can come up with that G string A minor line is definitely one of a kind bro. Pulled that one on several of my buddies and it cracks em' up..:lol::lol:

But isn't that Martin Taylor video some of the most outrageous playing you've ever seen... .
    Guy is freakn' unbelievable..
I know I've gone way, way, past my 3 vid limit, but I found this guy on a Jazz Forum the other day, and I just had to share it with you guys..
It's players of his caliber that I was talking about in the old..
\"Guys that make you want to quit\" thread I started a long time ago..
I don't know how you guys feel about his playing but after listening to him a couple of days, I'm still sitting here in shock...

The two guitarist I have seen so far on this thread that blow me away are Tommy Emmanuel and this Martin Taylor guy. (All the guitarists posted were great...I had just never heard of these two guys.) Never heard of either of them until my fellow forumites started posting their favorite vids. And Martin Taylor, I just stumbled across and after seeing the vid, I had to post it...
    Please forgive me... :lol::lol::lol:
And let's see some more of you guys favorite axe players...

    Sincerely,
    Tal... 8)
  • Tal,
I can't take credit for that joke...I heard it somewhere one time too.

WOW !! That Martin is awesome, and so precise. Not a flaw, sweet touch, and such a joy to watch. Living proof, you can practice all you want, but to be able to do what he does, requires gifts from God. He has it all too.

I know my limitations, and that is okay. I am actually inspired by this fellow. There are a lot of things I'll never have or achieve in this life. I will gladly accept, what I may be blessed with.

I try to think of it like this.
Can Martin Taylor (nice name by the way) hunt or fish like me?

I caught this 14 lb. Brown Trout and Rainbows at the mouth of a river dumping into Lake Michigan. What is so special about this Brown though is, I caught him on 2 lb. test line, against the river current, and this fish once on, was smart, as he knew to peel out lots of line and head for open water. So I had the weight of the line to also stretch against. I needed touch equal to Martin's touch, and finesse' equal to Martins finesse to bring that fish in. I sheit you not....2 lb. test line!
I am a sportsman. I will allow my game every advantage over me. I don't catch and release though...that is for Yuppie's.

    bigbrown.jpg

Or...how many guy's you know will go Pheasant hunting, with a six-gun? Yep...that is two Pheasants in my hands.

    Pheasant1.jpg

Don't get me started on bowhunting stories. This is also something coming up very soon for me. Bow season for Whitetails opens in 43 more days...and I already have the fever real bad. I'm sweating in the cold morning, my eyesight is sharpening,
my hearing so good...why I can even hear my own thoughts right now.
I can smell blood on frozen meat in the garage freezer,
and I'm looking out the window alot and whimpering.
(while I am sharpening my Bowie slowly)

    deer301.jpg

Okay...maybe you do know of someone else who can hunt and fish like me. Ted Nugent....
  • Please....
    Manitou.....
Tell me you shot those phesant with a 6 shooter while they were in a cage.
    Unbelievable shooting bud.. .
Did you take em' on the fly???
If you did, my hat is off to you.... :)

Good one on the trout as well..
    2 lb. test as well..
Was fishing in Padre with a little bit heavier line...
(120 lb. test with 5' steel leaders...Never did get one in..Suspect BIG sharks...Line appeared to be cut...Must have swallowed the leader and bit through the line)..:lol::lol: .

    Yep....
Martin Taylor has just become my favorite guitarist..
I thought I'd never hear anybody approach the mastery of Joe Pass....
Until I saw this vid. ..
He does put guitar playing in a whole new perspective. 8) .

Now one more for something TOTALLY different.. .
A little Chickn' Pickn' by Jerry Donahue on his HELLECASTER... 8)
Listen to the Steel guitar sounds he gets out of that thing... 8)

  • Thanks for the compliment, and I guess I did give the impression I shot those birds on the wing. But running across the ground is still a tough shot. They hold tight, and you get to go within 30 paces of them, before they take off running, then if pressure is still on them they take to wing. I usually guess where they are, and walk in slowly, but steady, or you'll never get close enough.
I go in alone when I hunt with a sixshooter. If you take a dog, the bird will hold tight and always take to wing. I just found hunting with a 12 ga. pump to be too easy. (top step an Ithaca)
With the sixshooter, they are usually running at 30 to 50 paces, so it still is as hard a shot as on the wing, but at least you are aiming at the dirt. More reason to hunt alone, and not reccomended for Dick Cheney. :?

I should dig up some of my Padre Island photos. I use to deepwater fish after the sailfish and marlin, down there. But always had to beg trips with my neighbor. What I did mostly was surf fish, or off the jetty's like in Corpus Christi Bay, or out at Port Aransas. I lived right on the beach for 7 years. ....ummm I should point out...7 SPRING BREAKS !!!

The beach was right out my front door. I had a Dodge Powerwagon 4x4. What I mostly did for big game sport was fish for the hammerheads, black tip, leopard, and sand sharks. Biggest I caught was a hammerhead.
Here is the deal though. We (shark cowboys) would drive our 4x4's down S.Padre pointed south from BobHall Pier for 40-some miles. We built harnesses that you fastened to the back bumper of your truck and backed up to the surf. The shore dropped off deep through this area, and was heavy with sharks. You took a fresh skipjack, and sliced him bloody. (skipjacks bleed like crazy)...then cast for Cuba. When you set the hook on a big shark, the only thing that kept him from dragging you out to sea, was that harness. You would fight so hard, you'd end up puking at some point from exhaustion, and someone was always ready to pour a beer down your throat to give you vitimin's. That was how we fished big game, if we weren't beating the dune bushes for rattler's. :P

I was nuts then. I was also into steer wrestling at that time. Don't get me started on that or my horses.

What does any of this have to do with guitar? It all includes a campfire and guitars, and Beer.
Even in that photo of the sixguns and birds, there at my feet is a bunch of rocks stacked in a campfire circle. My buddy taking the photo had an old Martin classic, and I had an old Gibson acoustic.

Out back of my shack on San Pablo Bay, where if you were taking the photo, way off in the distance, you'd see the Golden Gate Bridge, and the snow cap of Mt. Tamalpias. I think you do see Mt. Diablo off over my shoulder. Both those places is were I trained for Endurance Racing with my Arab horse, for the Tevis Cup. I wonder if anyone reading this has heard of that race?
  • P.S. sorry about the hunting and fishing, and outdoorsy stuff. This time of year I begin morphing. It is seldom pretty, and the older I get the harder it is to care about maintaining any normalcy.

I should try to play my guitar again. Funny thing is this morphing helped me with \"Crowd Chant\" for some reason.

I loved the chickn pickn. :D

Thanks Bro. It started as an anology to we all have our gifts. It got considerably out of hand. But this time of the year, I legally can not be held responsible for my (intendtions.)

It is happening earlier this year. It begins when the nights start getting colder. We have already seen it in the 30's at night.

I'm sure Martin Taylor can hunt and fish. I only pray to God it is about as good as I can play guitar, and he can practice all he wants at fishing, but never feed a small family of cats.

I need to start posting links, I suppose on this thread. But they will most likely have Antlers and tips on cutting meat. :?

Hope you guys can BEAR with me a while. Rut, Rut, Rut, Rut. :P
  • I'm gettig an itchy trigger finger as well, but got a while to wait.
High 90's down here in Texas until probably Halloween..
  • Too make up for the \"off topic\" violation. I am now required to pay \"Finds\" and so here is one I think you will really marvel at.
This is one of a blind man showing his unique form of shredding. Stick through it till past midway. This guitarist really has something to show. I was grinning from ear to ear with this. He is so magnificent.

    Manitou...
    That cat is freakn' unbievable!!!
I guess he has one huge advantage being blind...
He has no idea that what he's doing is freakn' impossible..
    Great vid... 8)

Here's another vid of a handicapped player...
If you want to call these guys physical limitations handicaps.. .
    Geez...
This guy only has the use of 2 fingers on his left hand..
His index and his middle finger....
Pretty freakn' amazing and one of my all time favorites...
    Handicap???? What freakn' handicap.....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMLzK_w6ZeM

    Forgot to mention....
This may be the first music video ever made....:lol::lol:
  • Pay Again, I don't think he is blind I have seen him on Youtube before :P~
  • LuredMaul,

That was a Google site. I think all of mine are. I do use YouTube also. Don't know if that would make any difference.

I would really like to find more of him, as I'd like to see him play something more of a ballad, instead of the shred.
  • I know I've seen that guy cuz I made note of the equip behind him.... I just don't remember how I stumbled onit... and over at GNX4.org we toss around somany video links it's hard to say

    :

nice trout, too bad you didnt get him on the fly, then youd have something to talk about. and if you released him, i could have caught him when he was 20 lbs. thanks.
  • gary that guy you posted is awesome blind or not. His technique is pretty unbelievable.-

and the two finger style of the guy tal posted -- man both these guys made me both inspired and awestruck
  • \Manitou\ wrote:
    smeg...yawn.

hope he tasted better than the 14 1 pounders you could have kept (or is he still in your freezer? :D )

anyways, thats the fish of a lifetime.
  • Brown.jpg

Thanks, he did provide a great memory, as this presented one of the more near impossible odds. I felt at the start, I'd never bring this one in. But as the fight grew, I became more inclined to think I had a chance. My heart pounded the whole time.

I was after Rainbows, but knew some hog Browns were in the area. It was early for the Browns. I was tacked up for smaller Rainbows. This wasn't the biggest Brown for me, (I caught my share twice this size) but one of the most memorable. You catch hundreds of fish, but some just present memories that rise to the top. It isn't necessarily the biggest fish, or the one you even caught. Many things can create those special moments for you.
  • youve caught your share of 28 pounders???!!!! come now. and i can play like steve vai (trying to keep this guitar related!)

So Tal doesn't get upset getting off topic on his thread, that is a nice video still shot of what appears to be a heavy brown sound. And your telling us you casted with a 2 lb line - hence you achieved that heavy brown sound Telecasting without breaking a string and having to retuna.

    ...why bother a$$hole?

Yeah. I have apologised for going off topic.

I was using myself as an example to make a point. I am EXTREMELY SORRY I ever opened up a part of myself...to only get sheit on in return and so much as be called a LIER.

YES THAT FISH WAS CAUGHT WITH A 2 LB. TEST LEADER IN OPEN WATER...AND I AM F'ing PROUD OF THAT. GOD ALMIGHTY!!
YES I HAVE CAUGHT MANY AWESOME FISH IN MY 46 YEARS OF FISHING....and my adventures continue as long as I am allowed to enjoy this sport. I always fish for fishing....not to entertain you.

In 1979, I also killed the largest Whitetail Buck in my County by Bow & Arrow, on the morning of my wedding day. (hungover from the bachelor party) I've been a sportsman and outdoorsman all my life. I killed a Black Bear before I was even a teenager. I suppose if I told you I shot bow and arrow with Fred Bear even, you'd think that was a lie too. You know...why do I even care? I hate this ignorant crap. I have much better things to do, and sorry I even tried this message board crap. People like you are disgusting. Your negativity destroys so much so easily.

  • Manitou...
You da' man bro.. 8) .
    Pheasant with a 6 shooter..
Don't care if they were on wing or on the ground.
Great shooting on those fast devils.. 8) .
And a 14 lb.'er on 2 pound test on any fish is a feat anyone would be proud of. Much less a wily trout. (I'd be happy landing 14 lb. hard head on 2 lb. test)..:lol::lol: .

The way you describe surf fishing on Padre is exactly the way I fish when I go down there. My bro' in law has a condo on Mustang Island. We load up the oughts. (4 to 16 ought Penn's). Then bait with half chickens, whole whiting, etc. Me and my bro' n' law are getting a little old for the next part so we leave it to his 18 year old or my 14 year old son.

After all rods have been baited, the baits are placed in the back of an ocean going kayak. The boys then paddle out past the 3rd sand bar (about 1/4 mile) and drop the baits off the back of the kayak. (It's a real hoot watching the boys mothers try to scream at them, yelling, \"That's far enough\")...:lol::lol:

After all slack is taken out of the lines we sit around, drink beer, and eat hot dogs, until one of those reels start to sing. Then the \"Lucky?\" person puts on the fighting belt and hangs on for dear life. Lot's of fun bro. 8) ..

    Here's a little something to brighten everyone's day. 8)
Two of my all time favorite pickers together.
Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins tearing it up... 8)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni8KBhnebwE&mode=related&search=
Lot's of people think of Jerry as the goofy guy in \"Smoky and the Bandit\". This guy is also a guitar players, guitar player.
Evidently Chet thought so as well. Cut about 3 LP's together.. 8) 8) 8)
  • hey manitou
don't let that smegma guy get under your skin. I mean Who is he?
He doesn't know you cause if he did he'd know that you aren't BS-n. There's always gonna be somebody sayin crap like that.
Also it's easy to misunderstand someones intentions--perhaps it was said as a joke.
I know one thing and thats TOO MANY CRAZY THINGS HAPPEN IN REALITY TO DOUBT A FRIENDS EXPERIENCE.

AND I've heard of many big fish caught on small test---not to take away from your fish
    TOU :)
  • Manitou, there's nothing better than \"Barbequed Pheasant\"...I splay em & cook em on the warming rack (slow & low)...I fish a little (with my kids) but mostly get \"volume over size\" (20 Perch in 20 mins.) ...where I live its mostly forests (most of Jersey is, but you wouldnt know it if you came in to the airport or just drive thru the congested areas)...my buds fish Michigan every summer (steelheads)...this weekend I'm picking up my first crossbow to add to my collection.
And dont let anyone push your buttons...theyre either jealous or just \"bustin ballz\".

And Chet & Jerry tearin it up just rules!

Good God man relax! Breathe deeply, deeply, deeply. i was just expressing surprise at such an incredible claim. 28 lb trout dont happen every day! for you to catch \"your share\" of them is quite extrordinary. i wasnt trying to call you a liar, but even if i was, why do you care? im just some faceless poster on an off topic thread. we all have too much stress in our lives to get worked up about such a thing!

now, i want you to load the heaviest patch you can find, crank everything to 11, make sure youre using your bridge pup, start up the backing track to \"enter sandman\" and play, my friend, just play. you will feel better! and thus we are back on topic.

Talk about making sense out of dissonance..WOW...
You can't help but notice he's singing the lines as he's playing them..

Cat sounds like John Coltrane on the guitar..
