Well. It's finally happening...my cheezy speaker grill paint job is being replaced by something somewhat less cheezy.
I don't have the photos online anywhere, so I can't post them here. I'll try to figure that out. Meanwhile...now that my gear is radical looking, I'll be posting less often, since Shania will surely be beating my door down... :P
OK...the time has come. After having this cab nearly a year, I finally did the speaker grill paint job. I know you'll all be thrilled. (crickets chirping...)
I realize the photos SUCK...but the \"after\" photo shows the kewl bass clef I painted in sparkly gold paint. It looks 10 times kewler in real life...
Hey... I like the concept! ... Wonder why I don't suggest it? Wonder if you adoring fans will get it... Haha don't matter they'll be I entranced by your smooth melodic bass riffs!! .,,, did you think of doing on upside down on the other side ... Like a ting n yang bass clef... So you'd always be in perfect harmony!!!!

Ya gotta see it in real life, it came out great. The clef is painted in gold glitter, so when light hits it from any angle, it totally sparkles.
I realize there are fewer people who recognize a bass clef than people who can name 5 presidents prior to Nixon...but, it's so mesmerizing to look at, that between that and my riveting bass playing ( ), surely there will be hordes of hott drunk groupie chix peeling their tops off in front of the stage...
I'm sure it looks sweet in person.. Was this cab second hand? can't imagine coming new with that flag on it! Atleast the previous owner was patriotic... Visual very much improved, fans will be able to see your riffs now ! I think it's previous life was in country music

Funny that you'd mention that. In fact, it was brand new - came with the flag...and, not surprisingly, it was on closeout at a drastically reduced price, compared to the identical cab with a plain black grill. So I bought it a the great price, assuming I'd paint the grill, hence the origins of this thread.
Actually, once I got it, I hated it less than I thought I would. It was kinda kewl, and certainly patriotic. Just not very creative.
But, I liked the idea of the bass clef...the hardest part was finding someone in my puny little town who could draw me a stencil for something that big. The other problem was finding really kewl paint that would show up from the stage...I ended up using bright gold glitter spray paint, and it looks insanely cool. There'll be hott drunk groupies stripping in front of the stage at every gig from now on!!!!

Ya, like getting a tatoo. Something like that is cool when you first get it. Unlike a tat one can change a grill motiff. Like a tat, most don't know it can be done!

So, You did flip it, and painted the backside? So you could always flip it back an make it original again, if there would be some reason to do so!?

Geez Rawb...you really iz a smartish dood!!!! That never even occurred to me!
I painted right over the flag...although, I'm pretty sure that even if I'd flipped it over, the spray paint would've pretty much obscured the other side...
I guess if the bass clef doesn't result in rampant groupie nudity, I'll try something else...other designs that were in the running were the PFloyd prism from DSOTM; Man & Star from 2112...I couldn't figure out how to silk-screen Shania in her fishnet dress onto it... http://bp2.blogger.com/_EwHFDoNVVRY/SDhwk7p5ZCI/AAAAAAAAEJI/Fc7h2gqgmY0/s1600-h/shaniatwain6av.jpg

That's a mighty fine PR pic of Shania.
you did bring a forgotten memory to light, made me smile n say \" oh ya \"! Way back when, in them days of lore.... The 70's!... hahaha Didn't do the poster thing... actually painted that Prism the bot hands shaking from Wish You Were Here,Cooper coming out of the trianle from Welcome to my nightmare and various other band names and logos all over the the bedroom walls... Not tiny either atleast 3x3 was the smallest hahaha my cuz had a whole wall of Donna Summers from the chest up! hahaha LMAO ... geesh! Thanks for the flashback!
not a tat guy! My stock answer to that is \"never found anything thats cool enough to be on my body forever\" Keeps the peace
Wow didn't know you are fluent in Geddy Lee, ain't that what your groupies be expecting with that on display
I'm not a tat guy either. Don't have a one, even the Star Man. \"Forever\" is a LONG time, ya know??
Yeah...I'm sure it's come across in my posts over the years, but I'm the biggest RUSH fanboi in creation. I'm sure it'd be nice to come back in my next life as kim kardashian or a US senator - have a life of wealth, fame and power, without actually DOING anything - but what I'd really like is to be the second coming of Alex Lifeson... 8)

Ya know ... second coming of Lifeson not a shabby goal. I'd like to to be the second coming of anyone, just to be a one hit wonder or regional/local hit maker.. at my age that would serve well $$,,,, I seen Rush only once, way back in 76 or 77 .... $2.50 for 4 acts! hahaha That don't buy a beer at a show these days! Rush, Rick Derringer, Sammy Hagar and 1 other I cannot remember LoL...

That is PRICELESS. My first concert was mid-70's - Styx, a big act at the time - for the bodacious cost of $4.50!!
I agree - it'd be great to plunk out even one great song (can you say \"867-5309\"???), just to have the royalties rolling in.
But I'd rather be Lifeson...I can't think of a guy with more money, more talent, and having more fun in life, than him.
You know I saw a commercial the other day. Forget what it was called .. made me laugh cuz I just commented on painting up the walls way back when... And this commercial was hocking 3ft size frozen, turtles barbie etc stuff to put on your kids walls!... Ha ha I shoulda thought of that 30 yrs ago ... I'd be rich! Hangin' with the Kardashians, Taking pics with Johnny football..
$4.50 for Styx.. 8) .. I don't go to any shows these days.. They went to a Gold, silver, so so seats n everyone else pricing system... Just pisses me off to take advantage of their most loyal fans  And also everyones an aashole!
:? A decade or so ago went to a show, dude jumped in my crap for standing! Then threw his beverage on me  That got real ugly! Same time frame another show 3rd row center everyone jumping on me for standing! It was freaking Jeff Beck!!! Thought I accidently went to the opera, after a song everyone would get up clap for ten sec. then sit again... To much typing to go into detail .... but that one got ugly too!.... Sigh :? But I did get a point an a nod from Mr. Beck if that counts for anything :!: :?: hahaha......
Man, do I ever get it about the \"concert experience\". I haven't been to a concert (not counting small-venue shows) in many, many years.
It started with ridiculous ticket prices. Back when a name-brand concert was in the $22.50-$25 range, Paul McCartney toured and played a local college football stadium for $55.
Then came the preferential seating thing.
Then came the dynamic where most concerts became multi-media productions, with big screens, lights, dancers, yada. I've been to concerts where people who paid 3 figures for their tickets never once looked at the stage, but watched the whole thing on the video screens.
Then came the general selfish, inconsiderate behavior of the typical concert-goer (this happens to also be the reason I never go to movie theaters). This culminated in the doosh who stands in front of you the whole show, recording the tiny blur of light on his cellphone, without ever once looking at the stage.
I think the last concert I went to that was worth the money, didn't involve conflicts with inconsiderate assholes, and was an actual CONCERT, was nearly 20 years ago - RUSH, of course... :?
WTH!! There's no cancel button? lmao never noticed. Accidently hit the button , so guess I'll say something.. Then get off ur lawn, but I ain't no punk!

Selfish, inconsiderate & in general everyone is right in their own eyes attitude of the typical concert goer, is just a reflection of todays society. So actually doesn't surprise me all that much. It ain't like the residuall from the 60's back in the 70's where everyone was there to party an enjoy the live music!
This culminated in the doosh who stands in front of you the whole show, recording the tiny blur of light on his cellphone, without ever once looking at the stage.
I ain't no doosh either! Phone cams came in after I basically stopped going to shows. Irregardless of price, if I can't see em sweat, I dont go to a show unless it's free! Through out the 90's into the 00's worst seating I ever got was 5th row.
I think the last concert I went to that was worth the money, didn't involve conflicts with inconsiderate assholes, and was an actual CONCERT, was nearly 20 years ago - RUSH, of course... :?

Last show I was at that was worth the money! SRV... Because.. not just cuz of his chops an charisma.. Not cuz it was a stand up show from begining to end... But because everyone was groovin' man! People standing the few sitting.. people walking EVERYONE was boogying\" Don't get to feel the \"vibe\" in the air that often! ... Know what I mean!? :P 8)
Wellllll...I guess this thread has officially strayed well beyond the boundaries of musical topics to societal commentary. But I'll go with it.
I personally think our once comparatively cultured society has devolved into a clusterflock of ThunderDome freaks.
Yes, there is still a sizable contingent of perfectly decent, respectful and respectable people out there...but they are being drowned out by the din of bad behavior, self-entitlement, and just plain despicable obnoxious people.
I am fed to the teeth with people who think the world should revolve around them and whatever they think; that they should do whatever they feel entitled to, and everyone else should just sit down and suck on it. I have so many tangible examples of this - even just in the last week, month, or year - that if I started listing examples, I'd rave like a lunatic, it makes me so angry.
Where the HAIL do people like this get off? Isn't one of the fundamental aspects of societies the collective good - \"the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few\"? Isn't one of the fundamental aspects of spiritual/religious belief TOLERANCE of others?
I'm going to stop before this turns into a too-long-to-read, incoherent rant. I've already got that throbbing-forehead-vein thing going.
We have too many people with unreasonable expectations that involve their own personal problems. We already do have rules in place to accommodate the majority. However, issues keep popping up that revolve around a vocal minority opinion, and too often explicit laws are created to address those few. California and Virginia are my two favorite states that serve as examples of this.
I think law-making and determining who is the majority are beyond the scope of this forum. I'm sure everyone has something to say about this, but let's try to keep this about music and our outdated GNX pedals.
