What? .... Still no pic of that awsome grill you customized?
Sad to say...haven't customized it (yet)! In fact, I've only played the cab out a couple times...
Problem is, our drummer - the sassy young rasta dude - ran away from home to be a professional mountain bike racer. So our band, while still solid, lacks a drummer. Tried ordering one from Sweetwater, but no go.
The real problem is that I live in a town so small you could throw a drumstick from one end to the other...so - despite there being a lot of killer musicians around here - very few drummers.
So...between that, and two of the other band members having undertaken extensive traveling in recent months...we're not getting much playing time in. :?
…so… what did I miss, over the last 4 years?
you ever get that speaker grill painted? :?
Hey 'tou...nice to see ya! I too visit here periodically, as traffic has slowed a lot. Frankly, in the last couple/few years, you haven't missed much - been very quiet here.
Sorry to hear of your health struggles...but it sounds like you've won some battles. Good for you.
And - as I'm sure you're wondering - no, Shania hasn't whisked me away yet...sigh...
Ok shredd... been nine months.... you got that there cab customized yet?
WTH ... ?????
'Sup Rawb!!!
The short - and pathetic - version...no, it still looks exactly like the day I bought it. In fact, I've only played through it a couple of times.
The painful version is that my band is in disarray...our drummer ran away from home to be a professional mtn bike racer...our lead singer got engaged/moved in w his gf, and has become even MORE difficult to get commitment from, despite his delusions of grandeur about the band. The only ones that are reliable are myself and the git'r player.
Well at least you had a band for a bit... So in twenty years you can say..... HEY, were getting the band back together!!! 8)
Wish I could count to four...or I'd come sit behind the kit for ya's... Sigh!
Now that you've established, you have no band practice... Get up and finish that vision you have for that cab!!!!!
Yeah, and a dam good band at that. We played a handful of times and just crushed it. Real shame. Buuut...it's the same ol' sheet...everyone's got other stuff they either want to or have to do...sigh...and I though it was gonna increase my exposure to hott drunken groupies, ripe for exploitation...
The cab - who knows. I'll surely do something with it...right now the grill features a US flag, which is pretty kewl-looking, but also rather redneckish/70's Lynard Skynard looking...

Hahahaha .. US Flag, redneckish?? You one of them socialist commies that deny everything American? .... Oh ya, forgot you have a love for those above the 49th..
70's Skynyrd .. That would've been a Confederate Battle Flag my friend!
You buy this cab used? Don't recall any comming new with a flag painted on the grill....

Yup - you're right. Skynard w/Confederate flag...
No, I'm as American as anyone...but I don't need it on my speaker cab. It's really sorta geekish.
And yes, it came, new, painted like that...I think it was s'poseta be some sorta theme thing. You could buy the same cab with a black grill...then the company put the \"flag\" ones on closeout - probably 'cuz no one bought them - at about 1/2 price. So I bought it thinking I'd paint the grill w/something kewl...I coulda done just plain black, but I thought I'd have more fun w/it....hence this thread!!!
So I bought it thinking I'd paint the grill w/something kewl...I coulda done just plain black, but I thought I'd have more fun w/it....hence this thread!!!
Well...me too...I just didn't think I wanted it on the grill of my speaker cab.
Then again, I've had the thing for how many months now? - and still haven't painted it...might not happen. I can just say my favorite band is someone American - REM, Aerosmith, Allmans, Eagles, Petty, whatever...
Perhaps you just paint a maple leaf outline over what's on the grill now!  :P
Here's the thing...putting RUSH images on my bass cab makes me think I'd be posturing myself as a Geddy Lee...when in fact, I am to Geddy Lee as a 5'4\", one-legged basketball player is to Michael Jordan. I don't have that sort of ego...reminds me of the idiot beer-league hockey players who put \"99\" on their jersey and tuck it into their pants (a la Gretzky)....

Geesh!!! Just trying to light a fire under ya, an GITTER DONE!!! Take the dang grill off already take it down to your local air brush ar-teest... and contract him to do a Anne or Shania on it! And be happy!!
Well played, sir. And, of course, you're right...
I should just 'git-er-done'...
But I might have failed to mention that I live in a town so small that the \"hardware store\" only sells 3 colors of spray paint.
Airbrush artist? That's a laugh!!!

So small you know everyone? Every town no matter how small has some punk tagger... Them taggers can do wonders with 3 colors!!! Or... Being such a small community this may not be a problem.... Approach the local high school art teacher n ask if the students can come up with some concepts.. If there's a winner then the art dept. gets a small donation of suggested supplies or a monetary donation? Hey them kids are the future.. they may come up with a super hip idea!?
Which may draw some closet drummer out for ya's cuz you got this super cool/hip amp art! bring the younger crowd to your shows...
Hahaha wonder how far from reality I can take this, just to get you to go buy some glitter paint n post a pic?!  :P

Now about that grill dream you have... Stop procrastinating, you never know what tomorrow has in store.... Martin Luther king had a dream..... Look what happened to him
home depot/Let's do this, nike/just do it, GIT-R-DONE :!:
Well...sadly, this \"trolling for paint ideas\" thread has devolved into a \"my band is melting down\" thread... :?
We are quite in disarray...we lost our drummer - moved away - and have yet, after several months, found someone to replace him with. Meanwhile, our egomaniac lead singer (who, admittedly, has a lot going: got engaged, moved in w/gf, job changes, travel, yada) is constantly crowing \"let's play, let's rock, let's get gigs\", etc...has been no help in finding a drummer, gigs, and misses practices or shows up late.
Meanwhile, he has yet more travel scheduled, is trying to work through the move-in-w-gf effort, and still hasn't worked out his job situation.
Forgive me if I seem bleak, but things don't seem too rosy for the future of this band... :x
Meanwhile...having finally found and bought a new acoustic git'r (a Martin X series 000) after a couple of years of looking/trying/playing...I sold my trusty Dean to a local girl - as it happens, an immeasurably HOTT girl...mid-20's, cute as can be, body like a siren, and a real sweetheart. Who also happens to think I'm a great player and is coming over for jams/lessons. SHE calls ME to come over...compared to spending hours exchanging texts/phone calls with band members to set up practices, then have no drummer and the lead singer 45 minutes late to a 2-hour practice.
WWYD? (What Would YOU Do???) :?

Teach her how to play drums :!: Start ( 1st make sure she can count to 4 ) with teaching how the guitar relates to the drums or vica versa,, your choice .. then the drums start becoming the bulk of the lessons  You still have that digital kit?
Then the band will start to gell again with a drummer in the mix again ... its a win win for you my friend .. Hot .. chick drummer,, who can also come out from behind an join in on a accoustic set :!: A cool hip custom painted amp!... Geesh who won't come out to see ya's :?:
She's prime for molding if you do it right... Besides you'd be doing her a favor teaching her drums... you know how hard it is to find a drummer! She will be able to always find a gig.....

Reminds me of an old joke about the oversupply of guitarists, and the relative lack of others (i.e. bass players, or drummers):
Q: \"Why did the bass player miss his third lesson?\"
A: \"He had a gig\".
Anyway...yeah, she's prime for molding all right - she is wildly enthusiastic about her new guitar, and I think she has definite potential...even though she's still new, doesn't have a lot of confidence, and won't try singing, even when I try out nice easy songs on her.
I dunno if I could teach her drums...I'm not that good myself, nor do I have my kit anymore.
To be honest...I'm looking to teach how playing guitar relates to soaping up in the shower with me. If I could teach her that...well, the heck with a drummer. I'd play gigs with the drum machine in my GNX!!!

Why...... You sly lothario! Being such a small town, her parents OK with her going over your house? Surely you know them!
That'd be kewl, if she could paint...she is pretty creative...but I think her interests lean more to things like yoga, etc...a bit of a tree-hugger...cute though!!!
A far as hangin' with the hottie...I suspect her dad (who doesn't live locally) is probably younger than I am, and would come over and beat the crap out of me if he knew I was lusting after his little girl...
Though I imagine he's used to it. She's really quite a little 'number'.
Using my GNX for open mic would've been GREAT...I could've used backing trax, the drum machine, the looper, made a real show of it!
But - like most open mic's, I only get 3 songs/15 minutes...and I had to be able to set up and get on stage in about 90 seconds, play, and broken down and clear the stage in about 60 seconds...that's how I got into my singer/guitar/harmonizer act.

MMmmm I just don't get it? Why such a small town would have a song/time limit for an open mic night! I find it quite odd.
I think they would drop that rule if the crowd was there to see your awesome custom grill art!! And of course your stage presents n showmanship!! 8)

Sorry Rawb...I've forgotten how to put replies in after each subject...gettin' old n dumb I guess. Why, when I was young, we posted on the internet with a stick, walking uphill both ways, in a snowstorm, with no shoes... :P
Annnyway...I've been in CO (and WY) since 1986; and yeah, CO has changed. A LOT. And not all for the better. :?
As far as the open mic thing...yeah, it's kinda different here, for a number of reasons:
For one, this is a small town...I mean SMALL. Meaning there's not a lot of open mic's going on, very few opportunities to play in front of people, unless you like sitting on the sidewalk with your case open.
At the same time, it's a town with a VERY high per capita rate of incredible musicians...when one of the local places used to do o/mic every week (I went
every week for over two years!), it was often swamped, prompting the guy who ran it to really keep it tight, keep people moving through, so you didn't have to wait 2-3 hours for your turn. Which sux...'cuz, like I said, lotsa primo musicians around here...I myself found that I had to choose my 3 songs very carefully every week, in order to put on a great 12-15 minute \"set\"...where I'd much rather have had 20-30 minutes, perhaps 5, 6, 8 songs - to put on a killer little mini-set.
Conversely, that same place ended up bagging weekly open mic - not because of lack of performers, or listeners...but because they weren't making bank at the bar. Nowadays, they do it very sporadically - they'll schedule a couple every few months - and no one ever hears about it, so no one goes to play, OR to listen. Plus, all the gear the original guy used is gone; now it's a 4-channel Mackie mixer the size of a paperback book, a coupla powered JBLs, and a single mic & stand. And he doesn't know how to use any of it. Pretty lame. If I could stay up past 11PM, I'd take over the job...but like I said - the owners of the place aren't interested in doing it, 'cuz they don't make out at the bar. And yet, karaoke night kills!!! Go figure...[/list:u]

You know there was a juke joint in these parts that had open mic/karaoke night... so if some one wanted to sing a song the house band would play it so they could sing it.. ie .. live karaoke :!: and or if there were any musicians of whatever instrument wanted to sit in on that live karaoke tune they could .. or if you was a player n not a singer too the house frontman would sing if there was no one to sing ... etc etc ..
I bring up cuz I thought perhaps you might suggest to the pub that maybe they might combing the two like that .... for open mic/live karaoke night .... It would be just that more people to see your custom grill art 8)
Oh ya .. when you quote a post just copy the begining quote and end quote at the beging n end of whatever part you want to quote. ie .. without the spaces [ quote = \" rawb\"] ... this how you do it ... [ / quote ] ...

Jeez Rawb...youse one smartish dood. I just don't have the brain space to comprehend the quoting thing. I'll study later.
I love the sound of the place you described...fun for all. I really think that spirit of fun for all, anything-goes open mic went away when the original guy who ran it went away...between the unimaginative new guy and the venue's utter disinterest, I doubt I could get anything like that past them.
I think it also bears mentioning that most of the musicians here are 'of their own bent', meaning they only play what THEY like...if someone came up and asked them to play such-n-such so they could sing it, the players would look at them like they'd just been asked to charbroil a live puppy...

Town so small it's the only drinking hole in the county? Maybe run it by some other venue? The other place might wake up.. when all the karaoke folk run away to jump at a chance they thought they would never have.... Stand up on stage with a live band :!:
Maybe your band could be the house band :?:
I spelled quote wrong at the begining so you n everyone else can see how to quote a sentence etc
I think it also bears mentioning that most of the musicians here are 'of their own bent', meaning they only play what THEY like......
Go hang out n see what most people are singing... And it's not like if the musicians don't know a song.. they can just sing along with karaoke machine.Which may be a good thing when people see/hear the difference compared to live vs machine...
players would look at them like they'd just been asked to charbroil a live puppy...
Their faces light up with joy :!: :?: Told ya it wasn't the same CO I remember!

Ok... I know you people are out there! .. Say something :!:  It's like being on stage folks, It's alot better with crowd participation :!: :!:

To be honest...I'm looking to teach how playing guitar relates to soaping up in the shower with me. If I could teach her that...well, the heck with a drummer. I'd play gigs with the drum machine in my GNX!!!
Well, then .... can she airbrush?
Why...... You sly lothario!
I thought you did back in your salad days, before the band made it  Didn't you use it for open mic nights?
Sigh! .. I must concure, CO not the CO I remember... so yuppyfied n more these days!!
Argh...
MMmmm I just don't get it? Why such a small town would have a song/time limit for an open mic night! I find it quite odd.
I think they would drop that rule if the crowd was there to see your awesome custom grill art!! And of course your stage presents n showmanship!! 8)
Which sux...'cuz, like I said, lotsa primo musicians around here...I myself found that I had to choose my 3 songs very carefully every week, in order to put on a great 12-15 minute \"set\"...where I'd much rather have had 20-30 minutes, perhaps 5, 6, 8 songs - to put on a killer little mini-set.Conversely, that same place ended up bagging weekly open mic - not because of lack of performers, or listeners...but because they weren't making bank at the bar.
I love the sound of the place you described...fun for all. I really think that spirit of fun for all, anything-goes open mic went away when the original guy who ran it went away...between the unimaginative new guy and the venue's utter disinterest, I doubt I could get anything like that past them.
I think it also bears mentioning that most of the musicians here are 'of their own bent', meaning they only play what THEY like...if someone came up and asked them to play such-n-such so they could sing it, the players would look at them like they'd just been asked to charbroil a live puppy...
hahaha ... ya that's me :!:

Town so small it's the only drinking hole in the county? Maybe run it by some other venue? The other place might wake up.. when all the karaoke folk run away to jump at a chance they thought they would never have.... Stand up on stage with a live band :!:
Maybe your band could be the house band :?:
I spelled quote wrong at the begining so you n everyone else can see how to quote a sentence etc
Go hang out n see what most people are singing... And it's not like if the musicians don't know a song.. they can just sing along with karaoke machine.Which may be a good thing when people see/hear the difference compared to live vs machine...
Their faces light up with joy :!: :?: Told ya it wasn't the same CO I remember!

Ok... I know you people are out there! .. Say something :!:  It's like being on stage folks, It's alot better with crowd participation :!: :!:
