  • Just watched all the Vids you posted ODB 8) Man that was great!! I think they are doing an Awsome job thus far!! Cool post ODB!! 8) Thanks man!!
  • Yeah Baby! 8)
All the reviews I've been reading is an A+ for these guys.
Everyone is at the top of their game and making a fantastic Concert experience! :D
  • Well, let me tell you folks, this show just may be the best VH concert I've ever seen! The Balance tour previously won that category but Sunday night up here in Toronto was perfect.

Eddie was just spot on! His playing and tone was classic. I was pretty much in awe the next day after the concert! Eddie is back.

Dave was shockingly good...........I think better then I've ever heard him, minus his trade mark harmonic screams and high jump leg splits, he concentrated on singing the notes he could hit.

Wolfgang did a great job with the bass. Backup vocals with him and Eddie were spot on! He was pretty low key throughout the concert. Honestly, I did not miss Micheal Anthony last night. Wolfgang got the job done.

Alex was Alex! Solid drumming and having a great time!

This was one of the better sounding concerts I've heard in a while. I don't know if it was where I was sitting or just a great sound system but everything in the mix stood out crystal clear. The guitar sound was huge!
I think I need one of those 5150III amps. The stage and lights were very cool!

I could go on for a page or two about the concert but will stop here and say, this concert is a must see! Even those who used to like Van Halen but moved onto other things, or those who gave up on Eddie due to his attitude and problems, should consider finding a ticket and check this show out!

    It will not disappoint! 8)

Lucky me, I'm going again this Friday to see them!

I saw RUSH 16 times between 1977 and 1995. Always from great seats (connected 8) ), sometimes from so close I could smell Neil sweating  . Now THAT'S a live show worth every penny!!!
  • Eddies guitar is completely out of tune during this oncore...something went horibbly wrong...truly painful there ED.

reminds me of when my bass player opened the show accedentaly tuned a 1/2 step LOW and couldnt hear it ...he just kept freekin playing...AAAHHHH :x stop ...please

I watched it a second time and could NOT stop laughing its just horrible poor edS GUITAR IS JUST OUT OF FREEKIN TUNE COMPLETLEY...CANT STOP JUST GOTTA GRIN AND BEAR IT ...HAHAHA

  • NO, the piped in sequencer was off 1.5 or so semitones in pitch and the guitar is not as easily to accommodate that pitch change. Ed was searching and bending strings and chords to attempt to correct. Imagine trying to tune up in quarter steps. Easy on a sequencer, no way on a guitar or bass. I think he said he told Wolfgang to just turn down instead of fighting it.
  • Lonnie is now surely missed.

    ....Got Techs? :?

But come on....wasn't this all painful enough...cripe sake Dave...
You couldn't pay ME enough to Bronc ride a phallic symbol...no sir!
  • Tech ran the sequencer at 48 kHz instead of 44.1kHz, oops heads will roll.
  • WOW I was wondering how his guitar tech coyld have screwed up like that! thats what you get for sequencing in the first place...your rich...hire some poor keyboard player who needs a job man. LOL!

OOOOOps! thats a 3,000,000 show there putting on every other night ...Heads would roll and I bet they did.
VH is notorious for adding little things like no brown m&ms in the backstage candy bowl just to insure that the promoters read though there stage lighting and sound request in detail...they are absolute jerks about it and used to trash the backstage area if anything went wrong...including brown M&Ms in there bowl LOL! imagin what they do to guys who cant even run there onstage sound....but thats what you get for bieng cheap and not hiring a real guy to play keys...thats kinda lame.

The same kinda thing happened when I saw them in Greensboro. During his 'eruption' he was slamming the head of his guitar into the ground, and on the next song you could tell it was out of tune.
  • Well,

After get pretty damn good reviews everywhere, they finally made it to Calgary for the show tonite :) and I've got fromt row seats inside the ramp and backstage passes :D

The first time I saw 'em was 1981 on the wacf tour, and it was awesome, but the last time in '04 with Sambo, Eddie was pretty drunk and acted like a fool. After he finished his solo, he said into the mike \" I don't even know what I'm F***ing doing,\" and offered a sheepish grin...pretty disappointing to say the least.

Anywhoo, I thought I'd revive an old post about a real rock band just make all the emo-kids mad :P . I'll post a review tomorrow.

    Peace,

    Dobb.
  • Fellow fiddlers,

Well I went to the Calgary show last night, and all I can say is THANK YOU GOD!!!!! I have seen VH four previous times with DLR, and three times with Sambo. The last was the 2004 reunion tour. I came home from that tour sad, and I told my wife that if Edward kept up that way that barring an intervention, Ed wouldn't be around long.

Well what I saw last night was a Van Halen like I had never seen before. These guys were tight, focused and 100% commited to putting on a Real rock show. No signs of Jack Daniels, Budweiser, or any other intoxicants backstage, everyone was serious about putting on a show. We didn't get to meet them, but as we walked past each of their dressing rooms we could hear them each warming up.

The bass tech (Matt Bruck was nowhere to be seen) showed us Ed's EVH Wolfgang prototypes made by Chip at Fender. Ed was also using the new 5150 III amp. He said that Ed has chosen differeent P/Us for the new guitar, and also gone back to a Floyd Rose (instead of a licenced version). Ed was also using all the new (prototype) gear he will soon market, a new wah, new chorus, a new phaser (yes new, he still ran phase 90 as well). He also has new straps similar to the peaveys, but with the added feature of a front velcro quick adjust, which I have to say was cool.

Wolfgangs setup was a lttle less business. Indian rugs, a lava lamp from 5150, a bobblehead Jesus, and a teddy bear from his girlfriend adorned his \"tent\". He actually plays through old sound city amps, they have to have 6 in rotation because they're so unreliable. Wolfie also keeps his cell phone their, as I was told he's always texting his friends back home during the guitar and drum solos. His tech had nothing but praise for Wolf, he was described as \"A prodigy with perfect pitch who plays every instrument\" He had the '76 precision bass he learned on, as well as some frankenstein basses made by Chip at Fender.

    Next Post....the show... 8)
  • Well the show itself was different than I expected. I didn't think that the band would be as tight as they were. Many of the classic tunes sounded as good as they did 25 years ago, and even young Wolfgang held his own. I was expecting to notice the missing Mike Anthony, especially in the backup vocal department. The truth was, there was no noticable difference (minus the Jack Daniels Bass). Wolfy never did a solo, but to be honest, I always thought Mad Anthony's solos sucked (or at least the ones I saw).

Everyone on stage really seemed to appreciate each other, and really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. Lots of high fives, backslaps and smiles to each other all night long, gave me the impression that they really were having a good time. On two or three occasions, Wolfy ran over to Ed's pedalboard and ran his wah while Ed solo'd on the other side of the stage. Besides the obvious lack of mobility by the now 50 somethings, the only thing I noticed in Ed's playing was that he seemed not to be able to treble pick as he once could. But compared the all of the other times I had seen him, his tone was quite good and his articulation was as good if not better than I had ever seen live. There is no doubt that this dude was/is clean and sober. He only had one cigarette all night, during Al's solo. he smoked it while crouching in the corner of the stage, and was careful to put it out before he came back out for the next tune. His stageside goodies consisted of smokes, ashtray, water, gatorade, and a bottle of chloroseptic...thats it.

From our seats 10 feet away from Ed, we could clearly see him complain to DLR about the smell of pot smoke during the first tune YRGM, which I thought was pretty funny considering the amount they must have collectively smoked through the years. I was more worried about what my 13 year old son was thinking while the two dudes with the mullets behind us, blew joint after joint :? Anyway, they played every tune that would make an old dude like me reminisce about the past, almost like a soundtrack of my youth  .

I admit that I am and have been a huge fan for a long time, but I would strongly recommend that if this show is coming through your town, that you do yourself a favor and check it out!

These are my thoughts, not yours...

    Peace,

    Dobb.
  • Cool update Dobb! It's great to hear Eddy's gotter straightned out!! Your right man had he not He would deffinetly not be around long
  • Thanks for the review. My old guitar buddy from outta town saw them and told me they were great also. His only complaint was the canned rythm guitar backup in \"the Cradle will rock\" He could tell ED wasn't playing it... :?
:x Then I told him to  \"shut it! thats a keyboard dude!\" any self respecting Van Halen Head would know that :!: :lol: 8)
