Curiosity will make me buy tickets, I saw Van Halens very first two tours...1978 opening for Black Sabbath at the Summit in Houston, and the Texas World Music Festival in the cotton bowl, Dallas 1979..haven't seen them with Roth since.....it'll be interesting to see how 29 years have changed them......oops, I'm old.
I saw VH on their 1984 Tour (1st and 3rd shows in Dallas @ Reunion). That was my first inclination of exactly how scripted these big shows really are.
Right...like someone is gonna chunk a JD bottle at Eddie during both shows, purely by coincidence. And Dave's gonna utter the same \"if you saw who it was, I want you to pass that muthah-f***er up so I can f**k him up!\" the 3rd night because he didn't remember he also said it the first night.
As much as I use to love VH and admire Eddie, I don't see this turning out well. 60 year old fingers and 60 year old pipes can't live up to the legend created by their 20 year old couterparts so many years ago.
Wishful thinking guys, but good luck none the less.

My thought exactly. As much as I envy you guys who got to see VH in the heyday, I can't say as I'd lift a finger to see them now.
I was/am a HUGE fan of the band Kansas. They were another late 70's/early 80's band that was the shyte. One of the best drummers I ever saw, not counting Peart of course! Annnnway...I saw them in the early 90's as a \"reincarnated\" version of themselves, featuring Steve Walsh (the lead singer) as the only original, and very important member. They were SO bad that I wished I hadn't seen the show, so that my memories of the band would've been fond/er ones.
This is what I see happening to the VH shows....
Man, if there is one thing I can't stand is comments on age. I don't think there are any fingers here that could take on Eddie's 52 year old fingers?
I'm 42, and I'll be the first to admit my chops aren't as pristine today as they were when I was in my 20's. More refined, yes, but also slower. My style has changed to accommodate my current level of playing. That's something Eddie won't be able to do since people will be expecting him to live up to the \"legend\" status he created for himself in his younger days.
There's no shame in it. It's just fact (well, ok...with a generous smattering of opinion tossed in too .
Besides, Eddies most recent public displays tend to jade my belief that he'll ever amount to any more than a \"use-to-be\". Again, no shame in that either. I wish I could claim that myself, but I'm still just a \"wanna-be\".

Theres no doubt about it.........age slows you down.
I'm 42 as well and after 25 years of working in a machine shop, my fingers just don't do it anymore.
I don't expect to hear the old Eddie. I'm hoping to hear a new, adjusted Eddie. I'm hoping he reinvents himself. Personally, I think he did it when Sammy joined the band and again on the Balance CD.
I'm 42 and $uk. Hopefully my leads are getting better...but my exuse is I didnt have time to practise my modes cause I was busy singing and tryin to steal chicks away from you LD gtr guys all those bar band years so I guess thats the price you pay haha! I dig VH there my boyz! so I'll go see'em again for sure!!

the best players on this forum...not knockin anyones talent here ...can't hold a candle to this guy when he strung out on Meth even...ya I saw him last time he wasnt at his best but still better tone and licks than 90% of the shows I have seen since.
Well I'm 46, and if you think you're washed up after 40, then you haven 't lived well.....look at Billy Gibbons, tell him he's washed up and he'll kick your butt into the second tuesday of next week, or Jeff Beck for that matter.
The Jeff Beck comment and/or example is simply perfect. I swear that he is just coming into his prime. He is more fun to listen to today than ever. Just go listen to all of the Beck stuff up on YouTube from the past 10 years of shows that he has been doing and then try an find me any 20-25 year old with that kind of feeling, tone and technique. He's simply at his prime right NOW!!!
And I also agree that it would be fun to see Eddie go in a new and/or re-invented direction as well. That guy has more guitar creativity in his little finger than just about 90% of anyone out there today. I don't want to over state his abilities, but as someone has already mentioned, he really did go through a couple of different styles and phases. I for one would love to see him take it to a new level once again. I'm not say that it is a sure thing that he ig going to do that, BUT I do think that it IS a sure thing that he is capable of doing.
Reggae royalty KY-MANI MARLEY,
who is slated to open for VAN HALEN on the
band's long-anticipated reunion tour this fall,
told Billboard.com that he's not worried
about the classic-rock audience he'll face
on the upcoming trek. \"I'm not nervous because
I'm not going there to play reggae,\" he says.
\"I have music for everybody. There's definitely
going to be some people surprised,
I promise you. Of course, everybody's not going
to like it, but everybody can't hate it.
So my thing is, if I can capture one fan,
then I've done my job.\"
The 31-year-old son of the iconic Bob and
one-time table tennis champion Anita Belnavis
will be performing tracks from his forthcoming
\"Radio\" disc, which he says is not a reggae album.
\"It's really edgy, really urban. It's not reggae,
\" he tells Billboard.com. \"I don't want to call it
hip-hop, and it's not R&B. I like to call it 'Ky-Mani.
' I think I've created my own sound now, where
you can identify me from everything else.
I don't like to stick to one genre. And that's
the reason I call it 'Radio', because the radio
is where all genres of music meet.\"
He's so worried in that interview about being called Reggie that you know he's Reggie! LOL! I love Marley... Ziggy too man ...as if you needed another reason to light up at a VH show  8)
I just hope they don't have a Rap Band open, or Dave lip sync's his performance.
...although opening with Ventriloquist Terry Fator would be super cool. 8)
I see alot of people crappin' on the VH Tour. Saying their too old and all. How would you feel if Led Zeppelin does a World Wide Tour. They are gettin' back together (Minus John Bonham, of course) to do a show in England, I think. Rumors abound about a possible reunion, but Robert Plant says no way. I'm just curious what all of you would say if Led Zeppelin did decide to do it?
Van Halen's Tour is going very well, and selling out everywhere. Wolfgang is doing a good job, but Michael Anthony is surely missed. Eddie is controversial...and there has been a lot to talk about. (Eddie is entertaining even off stage!) I think we all had hopes the Tour would go well...and it is only fair to have a wait and see...in regards to Eddie. :?
I hope their success continues. We need more Rock Bands and I hope the success of Van Halen brings more Bands...Like Led Zeppelin, and anyone else back into the Concert Halls.
Going to Concerts is high on my list. I never got to see Led Zeppelin live...and if they ever present me a chance now...I'd try my best to go. John Bonham’s son, Jason will be playing the drums for them at the Ertegun Tribute Nov. 26, at London's The O2.
I too, have never seen Led Zeppelin live. Considering they are my favorite band, I would jump at the chance to see them. I know Zeppelin is not in it for the money, cause they would have done it by now! But, could you imagine! To me, that would be the most incredible tour! EVER! THE BIGGEST EVENT IN ROCK AND ROLL! EVER! Well, it is nice to dream. I guess I'll have to stick with watching \"The Song Remains The Same\"! By the way John Bonham's son, Jason is right up there when talking about drummers. There never has and never will be a greater drummer than John, but his son does him proud, I'm sure!!

Ya Jammer eat your words :!: :!: (I SAY THAT AS HUGE VH/ROTH FAN IN FUN grinning ear to ear!!)
I have faith they won't let us down ...somehow.
Wolfie accidentally trips Dave...and Dave throws a hissy fit over it, his false teeth fall out and Vanity overcomes him...and he limps off stage? :? (Sammy finishes the Tour?)
(and Wolf becomes a Roadie and Michael takes his rightful place?)
Eddie FINALLY needs a little sumthin' to kill the arthritis pain?,,looses motor skills...and his false teeth fall out, but he keeps on smiling and playing the wrong song? :P
A misdemeanor arrest at least? 8) ...for shooting flaming arrows at a (no wait...Uncle Ted already did that)
Valerie High on \"weight loss medicine\".. REFUSES to calm down when a Groupie keeps showing Wolfie her TaTa's...and a big Cat Fight erupts...during...you guessed it...Eruption.
The fight soon takes over the whole main floor, and it's a FREE FOR ALL...

Well...maybe I'll be using legal drugs this time...but I'll still go.

It'd be worth buying the ticket just to see the circus.
Pass some salt over this way and I'll do it.
Yep, they sound pretty good. Kudo's to them.
Hey...Aerosmith did it. Who's to say Dave and the boys can't do it too?
Time will tell, but for now it would seem that my inspiration for learning to play all those years ago is still rockin righteously.
