  • Very nice guitar Shredd! Congrats on that. Hey Manitou how have you been man? Sounds like a whole lot of Rosey eh?
  • <div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>Way to go Shredd!!! Very nice indeed. Good luck. Next up a custom Taylor 914. Did you know that Taylor Swift (or whatever her name is) plays Taylor's? She's getting a lot of attention the last few months.

Her name is Taylor made for product identification..

The 914 is downright succulent. Luscious. But - 4 grand, in stock form!!!
Then again, if I were Taylor Swift, and/or someone else paid for my guitars, I'd probably have one. At least one.
But if I were Taylor Swift, I wouldn't be date-less either.
  • Sweet Taylor there Shredd.

I'm a Gibson guy that 335 is to die for...You caNT GO WRONG...
even if you starved to death because of the extra cash you spent imagin the feeling of startving to death while gazzing upon your custom Gibson...It would be WAY less painful.

I am really stuck in Gibson\\Gretsch mode these days. dont own anything else right now. and dont need anything else. :)...ok maybe a \"country Gentlman...and your 336...and a j45 perhaps a Humingbird and one of those explorers koa...and..

    I feel yer pain dood.
As mentioned above...once I got over my youthful \"own one of everything\" phase, I've been sort a purist - one great elec, one great bass, yada.
Lately, all of a sudden...I dunno. I actually think it's a psychological valium to ease the pain of working for my new employer, who I really don't like and I don't respect at all, nor does he respect me in the least.
So...along comes the Taylor, soon to be followed by the 356 (if I can talk myself into it) or a really nice Agile http://www.rondomusic.com/as1000bch.html that also comes in sunburst or ebony (blackblackblack). I'm also jones-ing for an agile strat copy http://www.rondomusic.com/st802mn3ts.html

Someone - please - help me!!!

Er...you know about one I can get my hands on?!?
  • <div style="displaynone">fiogf49gjkf0d</div>Shredd, Make sure you register the new T5 so you get Taylors Wood and Steel Magazine updates. They are pretty cool. You need to get your money's worth every way you can.
  • Hey Shredd, congrat on the T-5, that one is a keeper :!: Given a choice between the T-5 and Shania, I'd take the T-5. Twenty years from now you will still be lovin the T-5 which will age gracefully, and Shania will be on the Golden Oldie station singing a collection of Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynett greatest hits.

    peace

That's painful just to think about.
'Course, by then I'll happy if I can keep a plate of strained peas down and can make it to the bathroom without tripping over my walker.:lol:

But you've got a good point. Question is, would you take a Taylor for life or a year with Shania??? :?: :?:

That said, I'll skip the Shania reunion tour and groove on my Taylor...

Ummmmm.....I think I would take Shania now and twenty years later buy the T5.

    Sorry....sometimes I just can't help myself.[/quote]

Exactly. Now all I gotta do is talk HER into it.
  • Well...those of you riveted with my fascinating life will be interested in knowing that with the stock market plummeting in response to lack of confidence in the stimulus package, I decided to scrape together my bux and put a few grand into my investments, against the hope that they'll have recovered substantially by the time I retire.
Maybe I should buy stock in Alpo.

Anyway...I'm still jonesing for the 356, so if I buy it, it's going to be on credit  . I still haven't made up my mind on that, although I talked to the guy today and the one I want is still available.
Or else I can pick up one of these agiles for about 1/10th the cost...

  • Well...
I know all of you are utterly riveted by my fascinating life , so i thought I'd post a little blurb about my new Taylor T5. I just spent the afternoon really putting it through it's paces for the first time.
    Basically, I love it.
The coolest thing about it is what's most advertised about it: it's versatility. It has 3 pups in it and the 5-way switch lets you select different ones in different combos, paralleled and serialed, etc. And it has an active preamp, so the bass and treble controls really have a noticable effect on the sound. So there's a LOT of different sounds. I got everything from a super-rich acoustic to twangy single-coil to heavy hubucker sound out of it. I even ran it through the GNX for a while and loaded up on stuff - gate, compression, fx (mostly chorus, phaser, or delay), and various distortions and overdrives. And the git'r handles them all really nice.
So I have to say my favorite thing so far is the versatility.
I also really like the ebony fretboard - it's always been a thing with me. I LOVE ebony fretboards. It just plays great; it's got this really \"solid\" feel to it. I did much less feeble, buzzy fretting than usual.
Plus, of course, it's just gorgeous. Mmmm...Koa...
    HomerSimpson.gif
Plus it's really light and slim. It feels like you're \"wearing\" an electric, yet you get all these sounds out of it.
I plan on making a bank of presets in my GNX4 specifically for the T5, going from acoustic to heavy electric.
    I love this thing.

Now, as soon as Shania comes over and hears me play it...well, hello hot tub!!!
  • Mmmmm...Koa and Hot tub, probably not good
    Shania and Hot tub, good
  • Congrats on your new axe Shredd, we would hope it might take your mind off Shania for at least a few days.........probably not

Coupla questions about your T5 Custom - is it a Koa natural finish or the Koa edgeburst finish? Also, tell me about the action - I mean does it play like an acoustic or an electric?? I'm interested to know about the action and how it has been set from the factory. One last one, whats the case like...if it came with one?

Nope...still Shania-obsessed. Maybe I'll get over it after a few hot-tub dates...

Ahem. So. The T5 is the \"edgeburst\" finish, which is very beautiful - it's more like a darkening of the natural finish around the edges, as opposed to an added color. Tasty.
The action - lame answer, but I'd say the action is a cross. It has that \"solid\" feel like an acoustic would, but it's strung with electric strings and has a fast feel up and down the neck, and you can do all sorts of things on it, anywhere on the neck. Single notes, solos, scales, chord segments, whatever. It frets/fingers great, at least as good as my electrics. And better than my Dean ac/el.
The case is a hard-shell, locking, form-fit, very plush inside and has padded blocks to fit the features and contours of the git'r. It's black faux-alligator.
It's also worth noting that I got the thing for a SONG, by pulling strings and kissing a$$. This is good, 'cuz it leaves lots of $ left over for long-distance calls to Shania...
  • Boo! pic of said axe on second page of this thread. With case.

Sorry Rawb, it doesn't download the pics for me on this thread. Just had to ask the question buddy.
  • Great looking guitar, Shredd. I can almost hear it playing just looking at it. Congrats.

It's really tasty. I'll try to get around to posting a sound clip or two, perhaps I can do this beauty justice...
Besides sounding and playing like a Taylor 8) , it has a wonderful combination of sounds and tones. Call me lazy (just don't forget to call me when Shania gets in the hot tub!!!), but I love being able to play acoustic stuff, and by doing nothing more than flicking a pickup selector and changing GNX patches, I'm whaling on an \"electric\". This thing is killer.
Make sure you tell Shania when you see her.
  • Sorry, I haven't been following this thread... did you post some recording of the T5 already?

You haven't been following it? How can it be that you're not utterly riveted with my fascinating life??

No, I haven't posted sound clips of the T5 yet...I'll get around to it. I'm playing/writing/recording less these days...partly 'cuz of job stress and pressure there, but mostly 'cuz of my new puppy needing care, training, yada...

  • Er...OK...I threw together a few sound clips in about 5 minutes, just playing through my GNX with a coupla patches I made for the Taylor. No mixing, processing, nothing. Feeble playing skills included at no extra charge.

  • Cool dog Shredd! Hey that Taylor sounds sweet! 8) Sounds very flexible. I wonder how old AC Wild is doing these days? That song you played reminded me of him. Have not seen him around here in forever? :(

Yeah, I wonder about 'wild myself. It's been a while.
One of the soundclips is based on a song he did, Melody For Mimi. I did a \"cover\" of it called Ain't It Lovely, it's on my SoundClick page.
The Taylor really is versatile; I did that whole string of sound clips in about 5 minutes, just changing the pickup selector and GNX patches.
I've found that each thing it does can conceivably be done better by another instrument, but there isn't one that can do all those things. It's a great ax.
  • Nice soundzzz shred.

Howabout using one patch and running through the selections. Soweeez can hear how each one affects the signal from the patch? Just a thought, know your busy.

    Thanks Rawb...
Yes, I'm very busy...then again, my life would be considerably simpler if Shania would just return my phone calls and come over for a hot tub.

So....the reason I didn't record as you suggested - one patch, and change pickup selections - is that rather than identical pups in different positions, this git'r has very different pups to select from, for very different sounds.
There's a humbucker imbedded under the fretboard in the neck, right by the body. There's another 'bucker in the bridge position that's open. And there's a body-sensor transducer-type just behind the bridge.
The pup selector allows you to pick different combinations of these, and in different phases. That's where you get such different sounds, ranging from fully acoustic to fully electric. So if you want overdrive/dist'n, you wouldn't use the same patch as you would for a fully acoustic sound...
