Digitech Dropping Support of Guitar Workstations?

I saw on thestompbox.net that someone mentioned Digitech dropping support of Guitar Workstations. They put the link to this site in their message. I've not been able to find anything to cooberate that claim. Does anyone know what the deal is, if there's any?

  • I haven't seen that. Although I'm disappointed, I'm not surprised. DT has been very negligent and minimalist on supporting the GNX series, even though it was their backbone for a long time. Maybe they're not that proud of it.
  • I haven't seen anything on dropping support! There has been some talk lately about DT not continuing the gnx work station :( As far as I know they still support it.
  • I spoke to Digitech's market manager on the phone, about 6 months back. He told me that they were going away from the GuitarWorkstation concept, towards \"bigger, badder concepts\". That's all I know.
  • Then again, how long do you expect a company to support \"legacy\" systems?
  • does this mean they'll end up scrappin the forum too? :(
  • :? Hopefully we'll see \"bigger badder\" real soon. If its a \"workstation\" type unit they should just continue on here one would think...but then again there I go thinkin again
  • Well, there's a difference between discontinuing support and stopping further production. The former generally happens much later.
  • Reps and Dealers around here have only said the concept of the Workstation as represented will change. That being, the hardware of OBR features are or seem to be not as required as a utility since the marketing of pc interfaces and abundance of choices in that regard.

However like many manufacturer's, they don't often let the cat out of the bag and reissues of legacy items can also be made possible with feature changes. Historically, it's been one of a higher end item, followed by more budget or introductory type items. Attempting to hit all demographics and competitive response within new product lines ie new RP's for any budget came before the GSP, followed by the next non budget RP, followed by budget RP's.. to be followed by ?????

Considering the ebb and flow of economics, they'll have more success with budget lines for a while and then offer a more expanded version later.. same experiments as competitor's but based on the economic tide.
  • Followed by more RPs...

12 freaking different ones. I wouldn't know how to go about choosing which one is \"right for me\" except to start with 1000 and work my way down.
  • That's the idea. Dealers have still been able to order Workstations. New lines seem to run the course of RP's for any budget. Reps are not tipping the dealers or giving them any teasers on any high end generations of products. They normally don't. Guess we won't know til Summer NAMM show. High end products or up scaled products may be in the works, economic climates usually dictate what is being offered.

Just as Roland discontinued VS series recorders for standalone multitracks, don't be surprised to see a new series in the near future since demand has been suggested at previous NAMM shows and again this past NAMM according to dealers. Roland merge/buyout of Cakewalk has dictated the direction of standalone products, however standalone VS users are in abundance and expectations were high to see something of that nature.

It's anybody's guess, but again the market will dictate what these vendors are producing. Volume (more budget products vs high end) seems to be the climate.
  • I want to get another GNX4 because of the hands free on board recorder.
The GNX4 is the best purchase i have ever made except for guitars.
    I hope Digitech makes a GNX5.
Though Digitech has made more advanced amp modelers I prefer the all in one GNX4.
The GNX 4 is the greatest songwriting tool ever made for a guitarist.

The only thing I don't like about the GNX4 is that it is fragile and after 4 years many buttons no longer work.
I hope Digitech will give my GNX4 an over haul for a reasonable price.

I find the amp models to hold up well and especially with Mike's MFX Supermodels.
If Digitech stops making the GNX4 and doesn;t make a GNX5 I will go back to Boss.
I would at least hope Digitech or someone else would make a Hands free recorder that could be hooked to the PC.
Long Live the GNX4 and Guitar Work Station.
