You gotta be KIDDING!!!
I just read an article about how bizarre things are in Iran and how much they hate the USA.
In it, they interviewed a hard rock band who, because of the wacko culture there, is forced to rehearse in secret and can't get government \"permission\" to play in public. The female singer tells of how it's illegal for her to even be alone with the men (they're all in their late 20's), and if she was discovered singing, she would at least be hauled into the Cultural Ministry and forced to bribe people to be freed, and at worst she would be executed.
If there are any members here who live there, or have been there, could you please explain what the HE// is wrong with these people?!?

Extreem Radical religious Zealots in control
As far as the chick in the band..... Ever see the movie Swing Kids? Dang if it don't sound like nazi germany
all I'm saying on the subject.... period!
Shred , why the sudden urge to bring up volital subjects lately? just curious!? I don't feel like cutting heads with my gnx bro.'s.... LoL
Think I'll just lurk.........
I post this stuff 'cuz I'm always amazed at some of the stuff that goes on in the world, the stupid people who cause it, and the ones who buy into it.
So if it has anything even remotely to do with music, I put my ponderings here. 'Cuz I know how riveting my exciting life is to you all .
And I guess I spend a lot of time pondering the mysteries of the world, 'cuz I don't have a wife telling me to put the seat down and reminding me how low we are on milk...
Ironically, Iraq was one of the most progressive mid-East countries for women. I wonder how things have changed due to the US occupation and overthrow of their government. From what I understand, the new government is run by and large by the religious fundamentalists once again.
The only positive thing about such repression is that maybe someday we will be hearing some really good angry heavy metal coming out of places like Iran. They will have to work it out some way. I suppose we will know when things are improving by hearing about some rock band being the first to play in that country. Like the first to play in Russia, the first band to play in Cuba, etc.... It usually means that country is starting to open up to the rest of the world. Better times ahead for them I hope.
I read about how some of the American pop tarts - Avril whatserface, Rihanna, et all - have been denied permission to play in some of these countries because their dress or their material or their stage-sets are too \"permissive\". I read about one tour that was cancelled 'cuz the artist and her management refused to impose a \"modest\" dress code on the crew.
It's one thing if these people (or, more likely, the ruling class) wants their country to exist in the 14th century. It's another entirely to impose their belief system/s on everyone else. Get a grip already.
BEEP BEEP BEEP
Step back from that truck for a minute...
Not every Iranian citizen agrees with their government...just like here!...I would wager at least 40% of that population strongly disagrees with their government
It will be such a shame when we NUKE THEM!!!!
Do you REALLY think that's the solution for a troubled country, blooz?
I agree with you about that probably most of the iranian people disagrees with their goverment, but which right do we have to judge them?
It's true that they have fundamentalists that hate all that is American, but they are a minority, most people don't even know about international conflicts, nor if there is a nuclear plant or the like.
And iranians, as most of the middle east people, are wonderful and very friendly. I can tell you this because I have midlle eastern friends, and my wife just arrived from Iran on a travel agencies tour and had the chance to talk with some people there. Life in Iran is not as the media tells us that it is. They are an islamic nation and they have their rules, like it or not.
Unless we have experienced from first hand a political, or religious situation, we shouldn't judge lightly. Respect for the different forms of thinking is the base for a world in peace.
It's usually the bizarre choices of the powers-that-be that freak people out. For example, executing a girl for singing.
Sadly, Iran probably will get nuked - or at least crushed militarily - 'cuz of their government flipping their finger at the world community and saying \"kiss my arse\". They have no interest in diplomacy and are basically telling the rest of the world to go fork themselves. So they're going to get slapped down. HARD. And it's a shame, 'cuz even though these idiots will get killed or ousted, it's the people who will suffer...people who had no intention of being part of any of this.
So VOTE, you idiots.
Just the Devil Dogs!!!!
Sick em'...
And when we get there we shall require a little respect with our whiskey..
No idea about Iran, etc... their reasoning is probably different.
Iran was a Progressive country by Mid-East standards after WW2 and had a democratic governmnet but they wanted a 50-50 split of oil revenues with the British company( now called BP-British Petroleum) that had been sucking up Iranian oil since 1909 but giving very little of the profits to the Iranian people.
Britain had the US overthrow the Democratically elected governmnet of Iran so it could keep the oil and the profits without sharing them with the US.
The Iranians still resent this.
Unfortunately just when the Iranians were getting back to being moderate the Bush administration backed the moderates into a corner by calling them part of \"The Axsis of Evil\". remeber that Iran condemned the attacks on 9-11 and there was a march and a vigil for the victims of 9-11 that had millions of Iranians marching in the streets in protest against Al Quieda and terrorism.
This moderate government of Iran even gave the Bush administration a treaty that gave the US everything they asked for and more ( they gave it to the Ambassador of Switzerland because the Bush administration wouldn't talk to the Iranian governmnet) but the Bush administration refused this capitulation from Iran.
This refusal by the Bush administration to accept the treaty that they had asked for is why Iran replaced its moderate governmnet with the extreme Ahmidinajhad.
It also gave the Mullahs who are the hard line Muslim extremists free rein.
Iran was moderating but when the US government of Bush refused to accept that treaty that they asked for and started to talk about invading the Iranian people went all nationalistic and extreme.
I love History and politics but avoid mixing them when I am playing with my band or visiting sites like this.
I had to post this though in response to Shred's post.
Aw what the hey!
Any country that doesn't and lets the inmates run the asylum is out of it's mind.
Had to be a reason, just had to be! .. It's election year!
Get out and vote you idiots! ha ha ha
anything to do with music...... I will post .........
 What are you talking about?? How can you even mention Billy Grahm or Pat Robertson in that context? :?
Egads. How in the name of DigiTech did I get myself into yet ANOTHER religious debate?? :?
Perhaps I'd better stick to posting about my GNX, and succulent women...it just bent my wheels that an Iranian girl could be executed for singing...
This reminds me of a news item from not long ago:
An African wildlife officer shot and killed a poacher who was about to shoot dead a rhinoceros, which is on the Endangered Species list, not to mention being illegally killed.
The officer was vilified, imprisoned, tortured, and condemned.
When asked to defend his actions, he said: \"if the same man had robbed a bank, and I shot him dead while he was walking out with the money, I'd be considered a hero. How is it that it's acceptable to shoot a man over a bag of paper, but not over an endangered living creature?\"
Many in Political Leadership Positions ARE committed Christians who actually live out there Faith in such a way that Impacts there life. I did not say that I thought they should be President? I just thought it was very insultful to compare them to Dictatorship Regeim that will impose there will on otheres to the extent of even killing others possibly even brutally? I SERIOUSLY DOUBT either of the 2 for mentioned names would ponder doing such things to inocent people who just want freedoms like to Worship God Or play Metal Music whatever? for a micro second! I mean realy Shredd please
The KEY difference is that no matter what your faith is, it is essential that your executive decisions be made independant of your faith's doctrine. Bush has faced ferocious criticism for his stands on stem-cell research, faith-based initiatives and funding, et al, not because he's right or wrong, but because he's allowed his religious beliefs to affect his executive policy. Church n state, ya know? SEPARATE. Like Burt and Loni. The lack of legal requirement for this is why other countries are being run by bands of fanatic zealots instead of political leaders.
Do you really think a US president could get away with authorizing an execution of someone expressing themselves in ANY way, let alone musically?? No matter WHAT he believed in???
Interesting! and SAD!
\"Church n state, ya know? SEPARATE.\"
Only in a private letter of Jeffersons to ? ( the recipient evades me at the moment) Is where the aclu has gotten hold of 'seperate' from. I don't see it in any copies of mine in the Declaration, Constitution or bill of right's. And to say that this is the way it should be is ludicris.. Really. By saying that, your saying that the founding fathers of this nation had no clue what they were doing! Which 90% or better of them were faith driven men. Why would they put that in there if (if they did) if it was to mean that? So they meant for the elected officials to bias themselves from their faith to perform their government duties? But yet prior to and after the final drafted Declaration, Constitution and Bill of Rights (for the last 200 yrs) they open congress with a prayer! Don't make sense to me. And then on top of that nearly a hundred yrs later they (the government) build a building to house the supreme court and decorate it with sculpture's of biblical people! and inscribe the ten commandments all over it! Yet the aclu says you can't hang them in a local or distric court! ha ha ha ha I didn't see the aclu or anybody for that fact start yelling foul after 911! When every member of the congress and senate gathered in the NATIONAL church in D.C. for a prayer service For Our Country! mmmmm why would one have to choose their battles if they are right?
\"The KEY difference is that no matter what your faith is. it is essential that your executive decisions be made independant of your faiths doctrine\"
That's BS and you know it!! Otherwise it wouldn't matter who was in office so why have elections!? What ones faith or lack of is, that is who they are. That is why one votes for someone! So if a athiest were elected he would do everything he could to eradicate God fearing people from this earth? But your saying, Only a person of faith would force their will on everyone . Anyone else wouldn't? Once again YOU know that is BS too! Is that like you forcing your will/opinion on everyone here! Who is not from the U.S. Why should they have to read/put up with this election yr nonsense on a music forum!
\"The lack of legal requirement for this is why other countries are being run by bands of fanatic zealots instead of political leaders.\"
No that's not it either. It is the lack of integerty of those leaders to follow their own laws and checks and balances!! It is the checks and balances of this country and the integerty of the Elected officials ( now there's a debatable topic! ) that make it impossible for a president to execute someone for their belief(s)!! Just like other countries it will take a Coo ...koo to have that happen!!
I was waiting on the passive agressive statement, to justify this topic. What did you think would happen supposedly posting just about an Iranian female singer getting executed if she was caught. You expect us to belive that you have no clue as to the going ons over there! They execute their women just for looking at other men with or without a burka on!! I just like you in your probing post prior to this one. I am digging on the music/reading, but I don't care about the message!! Does that make me a bad person?
What those freedoms DON'T guarantee is the right to inflict your beliefs on others. As Benjamin Franklin said: \"Your right to wave your fist ends at the tip of my nose\".
Fairnuff man!! I never try to push my beliefs on anyone! It is a personal decision I made that & all must make that personall choice. Now I am called to be a witness & I try to do that when I feel like I supposed to speak up and say something. That is my freedom as well as it is your freedom to reject what I say as a bunch of liess & non sense. The choice is yours. 8) We still do have that right in America even though those freedoms seem to be dwindling!! Well at least for True Christians
Ah...Now I feel better...
All the problems of the world now solved...
Now back to those minor 7 flat 5 chord arpeggio studies..
LOL...
