What song are you learning this week?

  • Shredd, great piano song, I would have lead at the end down on volumn just a tad so it doesn't burst into song--little softer aproach. Everyting seem to flow right along. I wish I knew how to incorporate all that stuff into my songs. Where'd ya get the piano track and how did ya get the drums to come just right--quantisize??
Thanks!! Glad ya liked it, and thanks for listening.
I've had that suggested before, on other songs...that the solo was up too much. In this tune, I tried to make the level appropriate to the song...I also considered a \"climb\" into the solo, rather than a sudden start, to ease it in. It just didn't work that way...I often record songs without much rehearsal, so even if it takes a few takes to get it right, I don't often experiment much with different arrangements. Here n there I'll record something several ways and choose what works best, but most of the time I just play it how it sounds in my head and call it done.
Yes, guilty as charged - I \"borrowed\" the piano loops. The rest I did myself. The drums were done on my ZOOM drum machine, and definitely took some doin' to get them to get right...

There were some great anti-war songs back then. We do \"For What It's Worth\" which is a big hit with our older Vietnam era ex-hippies. Still a great song, but it does show it's age in terms of political relevance. Where are all the great anti-Iraq war songs?

My favorites are Neil Young's Living With War album, especially the song. Let's Impeach the President. Great lyrics.

At the other end of the spectrum, there is System of a Down, B.Y.O.B., which IMHO is the greatest anti-war song of this age.
  • I've heard of some very pointed Iraq protest songs from all over the world on NPR  . Some are good songs, others are just saying \"bite me, USA!!!\".
  • Every cover band and their dog is playing 80s metal in my town, so to stand out we decided to go with old school hits from 1966-1976, and now WE stand out from the crowd and it goes over good.....old sam and dave, otis redding, and up to bob seger and molly hatchett.....people remember us now, and it's nice to play some new old tunes that aren't burned out.
  • OK, just finished rehearsing No Matter What by Goldfinger and covered by Def Leppard. Also wrapped up What I Like About You along with cleaning up some spots in one of our setlists. The band just left the studio and I'm feeling good about the two new songs. I know that the Romantics tune will be a hit on the dance floor as I have done that song with another band, but not sure about the Badfinger tune. That song is so fun to sing background vocals on though. With all of the stops and the vocals, I think we nailed it tonight and I'm definitely looking forward to singing on that song at the next gig. I don't know if it is going to be a good dance song or not. If not, we'll have to scrap it. It sure is a fun song to sing on though. Check out Def Leppard's version on youtube. That's what we captured tonight.

I watch D/L videos, and all I wanna capture is their FANS.

    Oh yeah. Songs.
Sorry to say, I'm not learning anything this week, except how much it sux to be too busy to pick up a git'r. Dam job thing; what with moving, starting a new job, yada, I've been a little scattered... :?
  • Shredd: You changed your Avatar. Sweet, sorry for the delayed response but was up at Big Sur for last two days and am now back online.

Yes, I was also away for a time while I moved back to CO.
The new avatar is a response to my unquenchable resentment that Cameron isn't returning my phone calls. Wench.

Asa far as learning songs - this week I'm RE-learning songs, as I picked up a git'r for the first time Thursday nite after weeks of dealing with moving/new job startup. I can barely remember Petty songs.

I think you meant Badfinger, not Goldfinger. There's a band out of PA called the Clarks, that do a pretty good job on the song as well.
  • Oooops, you're right....my bad...errrr...badfinger. Goldfinger..LOLLL...I wonder where that came from.
