What song are you learning this week?
I decided this week I was going to figure out the Chris Isaak song Wicked Games. Bm A E
I really like the sound the guitarist gets on his strat. My Washburn is perfect for the 335 part. Just can't get the semi-hollow to sound like the Strat, Oh nooo I feel the itch for another guitar.
Cool song 8)

Lately Ive been working on a few Led Zep tunes, Im really startin to dig Jimmy Pages's style 8)
It's also a great song to work on bends.
Besides being great for playing bends and getting real \"feel\" into your playing, it's also a chance to play with a slide, which sounds great in this tune.
Have fun 'slash, Zep tunes are a blast and a great way to get your yaya's out. I'm STILL playing Zep songs I learned when a tank of gas cost less than the car it goes into. :?
This week, and lately, I'm working on a song I actually wrote  . It's very pretty, with piano parts I stole from a loop library. But, as usual, the lyrics I've written are CRAPOLA  , so I'm recording it - so far - without vox.
When I tire of that then I move over and work on Deep purple 'Lazy' and assorted several others and my own creations ( It Lives!! ) I just cycle thru when not concentrating on just one.
It takes me more like a month to get most parts of a song.
I enjoy this song, one of my favorites. I chose this one when I read your thread.
I was inspired to start something new. I haven't been playing much lately, and lost my callouses.
Not to mention...impatience and short attention span.
I'm still toying with more recording ideas 8)
Lamb of God - \"Walk With Me In Hell\"

It's turning out to be much more satisfying doing original material.
Good for you guys. I wish I had the talent to write. Congratulations on your successful gigs. Take care.
For some reason, the songwriting process for me recently has been about an idea, a concept, a feel, rather than specific musical ideas. Witness the Tasha Trilogy http://www.guitarworkstation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5697.
The real problem I'm facing is that I, too, absolutely SUCK at writing lyrics. I've got a song underway right now that is absolutely beautiful. I'm recording it in two versions: full-length and a \"radio\" edit. The thing is, I spent some time on lyrics, trying to reflect the original intent/mood of the song...and they're awful.
So that's the thing. We all started - or still are- at a point where our playing was not exactly world class, and I suspect it's no different with lyrics. My problem is that my playing ability is waaaay ahead of my lyric-writing ability. I write these great songs that I hate to put vox to 'cuz the lyrics are so bad. I don't even know what to name them.
We seemed to have just hit it off, so far things have evolved with the bassist doing the lyrics, other guitarist has probably a better understanding of music theory and is a sort of hybrid finger picky type who likes MOR stuff where I'm more rock and blues orientated so it's a good contrast of styles. The singer puts her own stamp on things as does our drummer who is pretty good!
Individualy I suppose we are'nt all that great but so far together we are bouncing off each other and it seems to be working.
Hey you never know how things will end up, a year and a half ago I didnt ever think I'd be in a band never mind doing all this sort of stuff!
We're not the best but getting better by the week. If it we'nt for 4 of us being on different shifts we would be a lot better!
Not sure if this above link will help any of you songwriters, but it's been helping me. One of my Bro's in Texas and I have been challenging each other back and forth in writing lyrics, through email. BTW Shredd...he is a big Rush fan, and I've noticed his style keeps along those lines. For now, it's more of an exercise, than serious composition. I haven't written anything I am stoked about yet, but I am improving. :?
We also tried it with the Tele and acoustic bass (breedlove)...nice.

White Wedding; What I like About You; Born To Be Wild; Hard To Handle (Black Crowes version); Before You Accuse Me, Take a Look at Yourself; and a Wipeout-Pipeline-JB Goode medley. (Only works well with beach communities). Am organizing the patches right now and am trying to find a cool delay/tremolo effect for some tasty lead parts on Born To Be Wild. The songs that work we will add to the Friday and Sat setlists.
Onward and Upward

Sounds just like my band. None of us as individuals are that great, but when we play together we can be pretty tight. We continue to improve as we go out playing. The big step for us was to get out there and get paid for playing. It forces your band to another level, and I find that rewarding. We are strictly a cover band at this point, but I really enjoy it. When the audience enjoys your music and you are able to connect with them, it's just great. If you get that response from your original music, you must really get a natural high from that experience. Sounds like your band has real potential. Best wishes.
Thanks for the good wishes gtaus, I wish you all the best with your band as well m8!
I'm always thinking of Scotland, as my best m8 lives in Edinburgh,
just below the Castle on Lauriston Terrace.
Cool! I know that area well. I live in a small town called Grangemouth which is only 26 miles away. I'm sure you friend will know it if at least only because of the strike at the refinery here last week.
Edinburgh is ace, I love it to bits!
