Fortunately for me, I've seen RUSH nine times, dating back to the Farewell To Kings tour. Those were the days when Max Webster and Marillion opened for them. 8) There's just nuthin' like a live RUSH show. IF you don't beleive me, get Rush In Rio DVD...
I've also been fortunate to see Kansas (amazing live show), Journey, Foreigner, and lots of other bands in their primes. I don't much go to concerts anymore, 'cuz they're too far away, they cost so much, and I'm old. :oops:
But I'd be pretty happy about scoring a RUSH-lovin' babe...

The interesting thing about concerts - and musicians in general - is that one doesn't have to be a star to be a great player. In fact, I've been lucky to see shows of virtual unknowns in 400 seat venues that were absolutely jaw-dropping.
For example, I saw Seal in a teeny little theater, for $16, when no one had ever heard of him and Seal meant sea mammal. One of the best shows I ever saw.
In the meantime, you've got talentless hacks like GnR (sorry metalheads) who made millions on crappy records, while I was seeing bands in local bars for $5 who were twice as good. Moral of the story - popular appeal and record sales do not talent make.
As far as parents go - I'll put a story up: I was on a trip to Chile, and one of the group was a younger fella - about 12,13 - whose dad lived in Santiago, and he only got to see once or twice a year. We had a nice long visit, and when it was time to go, he was all mopey and sulking about how his dad lived so far away and he had travel so far to see him.
Well...my dad's been gone for thirty years. So, after spending some time consoling the kid, reminding him that his dad doesn't love him any less for the distance, etc...I mentioned that with my dad gone so long, there wasn't ANY distance I wouldn't travel, just to see him for 5 minutes. That gave him something to think about.
So. Reminder to youse all: \"you never know what you got til it's gone.\"

Some of the best music concerts I've seen were performed by unknowns, although Aerosmith has been the best concert performance I've seen by far. You know who comes in a close second?...Now don't mock me...but...Neil Diamond! I didn't want to go, but my wife made me. I was surprised, I really, really enjoyed it. Uh Anyway, uh...\"How bout dem Bears' ?\" (A little \"Planes, Trains, and Automobiles\" reference!)

A few yrs back I went to a BB King show, with Jeff Beck opening 8) So Beck comes out, and everyone stands. He's into his 1st song and then I realize I am the only one standing, so I sit. Song ends and everyone stands and claps. Next song starts everyone sits, this goes on for the whole show. And were in the 5th row center 8) Beck comes out for his fianally and I stay standing for it. So you know what happens. These old f..cks start jumping in my sh!t for standing and I'm ( 1960 you do the math ) I have to tell them to take a shot of geritall and shut the F up, that you are aloud to stand at a ROCK show :roll: and that the performers probably want you to! Then this kid 20 something? starts in on me just for the sake of it I guess,cuz he was sitting several seats over to my left. Well things got real ugly then, but the short story is the kid wasn't back in his seat for the BB half of the show
You have to keep in mind that I only go to shows if I can get seats close enough so I can see 'em sweat! I don't go for the party anymore!

It was years since I attended a live show until last summer when my daughter, wife, and I went to see Alison Krauss & Union Station. Not hard rocking stuff, but hey were incredible. Jerry Douglas dobro playing was awesome. She can really sing. I'm still not sure about her and Robert Plant though, but it grows on you the more you hear it.
I took the family to see Sugarland (country) with others too. Since I'm not the biggest country fan, I wasn't sure about it (but they like Sugarland). I must say that the show was really good, except for a few drunks sitting nearby dancing in the aisle, singing every word and high-5ing each other on every song. That was a little weird for me to see grown men that carried away with groopie like behavior. I guess I'm just getting old. I hope when I finally (if ever) get good enough, my friends and family get into my music like that. The one band actually did some Fleetwood Mac and all of them together finished the show with an AC/DC tune which was cool.
If you're into blue grass or country, I'd recommend both of these bands. They do a great job live. Not fancy showmanship, just good music and singing. I'm hoping the John Mellencamp show is just as good or better.
Kerrville Folk Festival - May 27-29, and June 3-5 (I am going for the guitar workshop, but you get to go to the concerts at night. I am not sure who I'll see other than the following: Steve James, Scott Ainslie, Mary Flower, Tom Prasado-Rao.)

Nothing to mock there mate!I've seen Neil Diamond in cancert twice and he was brilliant!! The crowd were dancing in their seats all night. I've seen loads of big name concerts but he is one of the best!!
Only concert I've got planned is The Proclaimers at Edinburgh castle. Should be just brill

I remember my first few concerts all in 1979, Doobie Bros $7.50, Nazereth with Van Halen opening $8.50, Kiss $9.50(expensive for the time).
It seems these days you almost have to take out a loan to see a show. Plus the crowds and the drunks and druggies that can't seem to handle the high and make it an unejoyable night for all around. So, I usually just wait for the vdeo. Latest--Judas Priest, Kiss, Bon Jovi. I will say that video does no justice for these shows--like always you have to be there for the full effect.
BB King normally plays somewhere that is less of hassle. Always a great show.
Shredd, haven't seen Rush as many times as you--only 4--but a show that is always mind-blowing. My first was in 1977, I think was Farwell to Kings. Most awsome part of the show was when they did 2112, because I was learning it back then. I forgot to write Alex and thank him for the lesson.
I also have vivid memories of seeing Dan Fogelberg (a great songwriter and performer) at Red Rocks, having the time of my life, until the encore, when some wasted loser fell down the stone stairs right next to me and split his head open. :shock:
With money tight and so much entertainment of various types available, it's not surprising how little touring goes on these days. I once lived in a small-ish city with GREAT promoters, and there'd be 80-100 shows a year, ranging from 500-seat theatres to the 80,000 seat football stadium (saw the Who there, and the R'g Stones 8) ).
You really do have to be AT a show to get the full effect...I just love my RUSH in Rio DVD, but having seen them live in several stages of their career, I can say that I have my top ten favorite concerts I've ever been to (out of 300 or so), and then there's the RUSH shows. 8)

It's funny, I opened an old box the other day and found my collecion of ticket subs. I saw Bobby Blue Bland, Albert King, B.B. King and SRV at the Rocks on June 19, 1985. General Admission, $15.40. It was the night of a lifetime- I was there with (I kid you not) a hot golden-haired friend and her younger cuter TWIN sisters all of whom were more than usually friendly that night. Third row center. Ahhh, having the time of my life, as you say. When it comes time to pack up and leave, I find someone took my leather jacket :shock: On the whole it ended up being a great night, though

This show was the kickoff of the American leg of Maiden's world tour. Simply stated, if you can go see one of these shows, by all means, go. The show is high theatre combined with blazing metal rock. The stage sets rival anything I've seen on Broadway. The vocals were spot on, no loss of quality due to years of wear on the voice. The guitar work was perfect. This is Iron Maiden, and they get better with age!
The crowd/band interaction was amazing. People were singing every word of every song. The PA could have been louder to suit me, but no matter, it was a great show.
The Mrs. wants me to put Maiden on the iPod. I guess that's more Maiden cause there's already some. And she is no metal fan, so this is something new for her. My son, who thinks I am one of the world's great living guitarists (I disagree, BTW) after the first solo, said, \"Hey Dad, these guys are better than you.\" I, of course agreed, and added it was about time we saw someone who was.
A thoroughly enjoyable show. Very reasonable ticket price here, $36 plus Ticketmaster extortion fees, bring each one up to $45, but no complaints.
Opening act, who never gave their name, were on the bland side - 80's hair metal with a chick singer, but they're not supposed to be better than the headliner, so I guess they did an OK job.
The leather jacket theft aside, sounds like a pretty good night for you. The last hott golden-haired honey I took on a date made it clear on the second that there wouldn't be a 3rd. Sigh.... :?
Also reminds me of the time my (prized) leather jacket was stolen. :evil: :evil:
My first show, The bill was... Rush, Rick Derringer, Sammy Hagar and someone else that obviously didn't leave an impression ' don't remember who it was ' all for $3.50 ! Memoriable shows from the 70's for $5.00 - $6.50 Black n Blue ( Sabbath/BOC ) Alice Coopers Welcome to my nightmare! BadCo. Ted Nugent, Pink floyd - Animals probably a few bucks more.

Was going to go to the Rowdy frynds tour Hank williams jr./Skynyrd. But the person who said they was going to get the tickets didn't !! Cuz they claimed they didn't want to pay the ( as mentioned earlier ) extortion ie ' convenience fee '
Maiden shows are great. I wouldnt say Bruce has gotten better with age; his age shows in his voice. The highs are a little less clean and a little more strained. Other than that, after only hearing live performances on audio tracks and wishing i was in that crowd, IT WAS GREAT to actually be there!!!!!!

When Rob Halford had his band Halford he had a song that he sang with Bruce, that was AWESOME. It didn't seem that either one of them lost their edge. When priest was on tour in 2006, again, Rob didn't miss a note--even when they played Turbo Lover in the middle where Rob sings along with the guitar right before the guitar solo. These two guys definitly have to of the most unique voices.
It was told to me before, that the singing muscle(if you will)has to be exercised just like any other muscle in the body. If you don't exercise it, those high notes will be harder to hit. It could also be the case of possible strain from night before--muscle strain?? I saw Sammy Hagar at Red Rocks a few years ago and he came out on stage and was up front with the audience and told everybody that his voice was strained from previous show, and that if he completely lost his voice that the music would still be live but his voice may be on a track.(sorry for the run on sentence)Well, thankfully,he didn't loose completely. There were a few scrachy, strained momemts but he came thru.
Anyway, maybe thats why Bruce sounded a little strained.
