FAVOURITE FLOYD SONG

Hi dudes,

I was thinking about this after listening to Macman's cover of Comfortably Numb (what a song), what's your favourite Floyd song? I was hard pushed to decide between \"Time\" and \"Comfortably Numb\" but then remembered just how great \"Wish You Were Here\" is. So for me it's WYWH. What do the rest of you think?

TY

  • i agree with you shando that is my fav song by floyd for sure
  • You certainly bring up three classic Floyd songs. Me, I like Have A Cigar from the Wish You Were Here album. Great stuff!!!
  • You GOTTA be kidding. Their catalog is so extensive and packed with incredible tunes...I'd be hard pressed to come up with a top 5!
BUT...that said; some of my favorites, in no particular order:

    The Wall, collectively
    DSOTM, collectively
    Sheep, Dogs, Pigs
    Have A Cigar
    On The Turning Away

AND...the video of Great Gig In The Sky from the Delicate Sound Of Thunder tour, where the three girls each take a part of the operatic solo...well, that just wets my panties.
  • I don't know much Floyd other than the Wall??
But Comfortably Numb because of the Lead parts just awsome expression.
and Run Like Hell I like the effects in that song @ the begining!!!

    God Bless!!!
    Partch
  • Wow hard to pin down to just one, For me I really like Vera, Early floyd tunes like Bike, and The Final Cut. But of course there are so many more 8)
  • Time. If i think about it too much i feel funny- their lyrics are spot on in that song: \"Run rabbit run...time to dig another one\" \"nobody told you when to run, you missed the starting gun\".

Not to mention the great guitar solo :o
  • \"The Nile Song\"...very early Floyd...you could mistake it for early Metalica- its so unlike anything they've ever done
  • Have a Cigar
    Shine on you Crazy Diamond

They have tons of ones that I don't know what they're called, too.
  • Comfortably Numb - for sure.

Just don't pick Money - I've heard that more times than I care to.
  • Off the wall favorites:
    Young Lust
    Free Four
    Great Gig In The Sky
  • Welcome to the machine - (on Wish you were here)

    everything on Animals

    later,
    chris
  • I could only step over this thread just so long. I was more into the Stones, and Led Zepelin, Jimi Hendrix, etc. during the 60's. I heard some of the Pink Floyds tunes off and on, but didn't have any interest in them until their \"Obscured by Clouds\" album. Then I noticed them, but really didn't look at them like a fan until \"Dark Side of the Moon.\"
That being said...it was \"Money\" that bought me. :D
  • Comfortably Numb(live) Gilmore's solo is just wicked
Money and Dark side of the moon. This list could really go on and on and on.... Love listening to Floyd, really takes you some place else.
  • My favorite PF song is the the first through last song on The Wall, Animals, and Wish You Were Here.:wink:
  • Wow this is difficult.........impossible?

    Mother
    Shine On You Crazy Diamond
    Wish You Were Here
    Comfortably Numb
    Dark Side of the Moon

    No particular order.
  • yes I would agree this is impossible. I find one of the most interesting and deep songs to be High Hopes.

    But I love em all
  • Well i haven't heard much but from what i have heard i'd say:

    Comfortably Numb
Money(Velvet Revolver did a good cover, with Slash using Talk Box)
Wish you were here(played by Velvet Revoler live)
    Another brick in the wall
  • shine on you crazy diamond(great music)
wish you were here (great tune and lyrics)

The best thing about the albums is that they carry a theme...from the cover art work...wind blowing....a genre of its own.

I like wish you were here best of all

I wonder if they will refund half of the copyright, seeing that i brought them on vinyl and then rebought them on CD?????

A lot of artists saw their album sales surge when everyone went out and \"re-bought\" everything in their collection. I'm sure they're waiting with anticipation for the next technology to come out, so we can all buy them for a THIRD time  .
  • I almost look at the Wall as a single. As far as my favorite, Time is an easy pick for me. Gilmour shines on guitars and vocals on this one. Very powerful and the lyrics are timeless, no pun intended. 8)
  • What a great thread! What's clear is that the Floyd Boyz are lots of things to lots of people. I just think there's so many killer tunes in their catalog that for me, it's hard to even pick a top five.
I just wish it was 1978 and I could bake with a hott stoner babe and get it on to DSOTM...ah, memories...

Why can't you do that now? Stoner babes are all over the place and DSOTM is still on the charts. 8)

Speak for yourself...I live in a small western town. No hott stoner babes here. Just the little high school hotties (which I'd be in prison for getting busy with) and ski bums, who won't talk to you unless you've got dreadlocks and spent at least ten years of your life following the G/Dead.
Not to mention, my aged, feeble brain doesn't handle bakin' so well anymore. Gotta save my brain cells to remember how to change keys during soloing.
I really just want the hottie to get it on with...and DSOTM. 1978 and bakin' don't matter! 8)

Dude, you need to move. Everyone is looking for the meaning of life. Well, here it is... As a man, you're goal is to get women. Yep, it's that simple. Where you currently live is referred to as \"hell\" in biblical terms.

Well said. In every other way, this place is heavenly...but for women, it's hell. The cliche` here goes: \"in this town, you don't get a girlfriend, you get a turn\". Ugh. :?
I'm sorta stuck here 'cuz of a job - a great one at that - but if /when it doesn't wash out, I think a relocation is pretty likely...
  • No job is worth abandoning nookie. No job!

Point well taken. I'd fix vacuum cleaners out of my garage to be with Ms. WonderfulHottieDreamGirl. I useta live in Denver - a chick buffet - and did a lot better. I just like small town life - pretty, peaceful, fresh air, etc. But no nookie!!!
  • Don't know too many hotties who are deeply into floyd.
    Brain Damage/Eclipse is my Fav.

Used to have Dsotm and wish you were here on a 90 minute cassete that kept playing over and on auto reverse in my first car when i was 16. I can't think of any other band that i would listen to over and over.

You said it. I can do the same thing with the Wall. Or Animals and DSOTM.
So...are you saying that I have to be into rave music or hiphop to get w/hotties? That's a crime against nature!!! :?
  • I'm about to marry a hottie that is a Pink Floyd fan. :D

This is a very difficult post to answer. I agree with the collective thoughts in regard to album themes. With that in mind, DSOM, The Wall and Wish you were here are at the top of my lists. Some of my all time fav songs are, Shine On, Us and Them, Breathe, Wish you were here, Great Gig in the Sky... wow, there are just so many classic works. There was a dvd for Dark Side of the Moon I got off netflix. I highly recommened this. They go into detail about the production of the album. If you are a small floyd fan, watch this video and I bet you will all the more appreciate the talent and time spent on building Dark Side Of the Moon. Remember, there was no digital recording back then. Many of the takes were pretty much live performances. Wow, it just boggles my mind...
Anyway, this may inspire me to upload a few Floyd patches for the gnx3... hmmm....

    Cheers!
