RockStar Supernova Comeback
Are any of you still following RockStar? For some odd reason, I'm hooked. Last night's show blew me away when one of the female singers called out Dave Navaro.
He told her that she's singing the same old stuff, and it's getting tired. Her response was (from memory, not quoted): Do you change things up with your playing?\" Dave was obviously upset, and went on to say that he has a job, and he's not auditioning for Supernova.
That really got me thinking. I usually hate when people talk back to the people who are judging them, but this time I wasn't pissed at her.
The reason I was happy she spoke up was that (to me) Dave Navaro is nothing more than a poser. AFAIK, he was NEVER looked upon as a rock hero, or even a great rock guitarist. He is best known for acting like a rockstar, not actually being one.
I started feeling this way a few months back, when a friend of mine rented a DVD of his where the interviewer stated he was a rock legend, and he responded \"I'm glad somebody said it, besides me.\" I was stunned that he would come out and say it. I really hope that he was kidding.

I did see dave navaro, with slash,and others in concert (tribute to jimi hendrix) and was impressed by him but I have to say little kenny wayne sheppard smoked em all!!

You can easily tell that some of the finalists are only there in the interest of ratings. I mean come on, have you seen that chick from Peru, Zayra singing \"call me\"? Last night she danced around in that little blue thing, holy pop candy (shredd :shock: check her out!)!! Last week, when she was asked by Gilby Clarke if she ever even owned ANY of their albums or even had a clue what they were all about, she replied ( I paraphrase)\" I have heard of you're music, but I was just in diapers when you're records came out!\"
BTW I thought Dave was best known for bein the only feather boa wearing axe slinger(that got fired from RHCP)?
Gotta go eliminations show's on ... er ...I mean uhh...going to jam with a friend...yeah thats it. :roll:

EGADS! I've never been so ashamed of where I live before.
She's AWFUL. Ok, she's a \"butter face\", but nothing more.
Lucas is ok (good stage presence), but his vocal abilities make him a one trick pony. No depth to his talent, just that one 'growl' all the time. I couldn't (wouldn't) \"set through an hour and a half show of that\", as Tommy mentioned to Phil about his head bobbing.
I think they'd be hard pressed to find a better front person than Dilana. She's proven she can be subtle but commanding when needed, but can also melt your face if/when it's appopriate. Great voice, great presence, great personality. Total package.
Jill and Storm are HAWT, but neither of them seem strong enough to front Gilby, Jason, and Tommy.
The rest of the contestants...well...they had to have SOMEONE to kick off each week.
Based on that (obviously flawed) theory, I think the Aussie will win.
I'm beginning to lose interest. The fact that they kept that girl after her thrid trip to the bottom 3, is a travesty. That girl simply cannot sing. Maybe she humms :shock: :shock: a great tune, but she can't sing.
Besides, I'm also not convinced this is a \"real\" band effort. My guess is it's simply a marketing ploy to make money for a specific period of time. Think about it. What is the likelihood of Gilby, Tommy, and Jason EVER crossing paths and being truly interested in forming a band together? And did you hear the music they recorded? Didn't impress me much.
I'm thinking it's more of a \"hey guys...INXS did this and it revived their careers and made them boatloads of cash. We should try this. We'll give the resulting band one year, a CD and a tour, then we'll laugh all the way to the bank and get back to our normal lives leaving 'Supernova' to rot.\"
Even so...that'd be one helluva fun ride while it lasted, but I don't believe for one minute it's a serious endeavor.
And yeh...Toby's probably the top male contender, but Dilana is still stronger overall. Hopefully she'll have a career regardless of the outcome of this show, unlike Jordis from last season. Haven't heard a peep from her since she left the show.
Can you really say evanescence like come on we haven't even heard anything new from them for awhile... would love to have seen you quote better bands with female singers like say Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Arch Enemy, Chiron, Beesech bands that have more than one album under their belt and i think can sing just as good if not better than evanescence. But this is just my opinion... but Lacuna Coil is definately one of my fav bands they have a female and male vocalist and are from Italy nothing else needs to be said hehe...
Lacuna Coil, yeh...rockin band, but haven't listened to 'em much. Even so, Cristina Scabbia is nowhere near the caliber of vocalist Amy Lee is. The others you listed? Heard of 'em, never heard any tunes from them (I'm and old timer who just happen to catch an Amy Lee interview once and was hooked on their music).
What does Tommy, Jason,and Gilby have incommon....They all quit some of the best Rock/metal bands in Top 40 radio.

For some reason, I see Dilana winning, and I think that if Tommy tried anything with her, she'd burst him into flames or knock his teeth in! Now Jill, that's another story, she looks likes your typical groupie drooling to get near him and I honestly thought her rendition of \"Alone\" was crap. She's basically using the whole sex card on the show and it gets a bit old, same for Storm, her nudes online are cute, but I don't think she'll last.
You all know this band won't last a couple albums anyways, look at Damn Yankees, they were one of the first (that I can remember) and did very well and then one day.....just gone. Maybe we'll get a couple jams outta this one, maybe not.
As for Navarro, or should I say Prince wannabe, he should either produce the show and stay off the screen, he's a bit annoying. If I was looking for a singer in a band, a third wheel that has nothing to do with the band giving me input? Nah not happening, I don't care how much of a suck-a$$ he is!!
I'm not a big Gloria Gaynor fan, and I think \"I will survive\" is one of the worst songs ever. But, I liked what Storm did with it. I thought she changed the arrangement and made it rock (a little).
I also wish that they would call out Lucas on his falsetto. It's horrible. He's never in tune when he uses it, but for some reason, they love it. I don't understand.
I thought the weakest performance of the night was from Toby (yes, the same one I predicted to win it). But, they seemed to love it. I thought the arrangement was way to fast, and he seemed rushed when singing the song. There were no dynamics in his voice whatsoever.
I was also surprised that I liked Zayra's original. I didn't understand a word of it. It was sung in Spanish and I wished it were in English. I actually lliked the arrangement, and she did a great job on the vocals (even thought I'm clueless what they meant). I thought it wasn't the place for that type of song. It definitely wouldn't fit the genre that Supernova will be playing. My theory is that she knows she isn't going to win, and she put her original out there and kickstarted her solo career in that genre.
Z's tune was really good(better than I thought it was gonna be),and you are wright about it being used to jumpstart a solo career(we'll hear the english version on her first disc.)
As for Lukas,strait up poser,and one trick pony.
Now if you listen to Gilby and Tommy's comments as to what SUPERNOVA is,they contradic each other so bad I can't take it anymore
P.S. Could someone please tell Dave to shut the heck up and go jump on his new porn queen :roll:
- Storm : Left me limp last night.
- Zayra : Her original music is good for what it is, but she doesn't fit (she's a terrible rock performer/singer).
- Toby : Meh...doesn't impress me. Never has.
- Lukas : Yup...OTP (he hasn't changed my opinion from week #1, even with \"Creep\" last week).
- Ryan : Wanna-be, nothing more.
- Magni : He's getting better, but he's still not the right fit for Supernova.
- Patrice : Nothing but a joke and doesn't even realize it.
For me, all that narrows it down to Dilana, the total package.
Supernova : May not be \"Supernova\" much longer. It appears the other band has a valid case. 3 albums and a song on a motion picture sound track? This isn't a fly-by-night gig that just wants to get paid. Formed in 1989. Looks like Mark Burnett and crew didn't do their homework and it may cost 'em now.
I just use the mute button when she sings.

but if I picked a guy it would be magni. lukas sounds good and seems original but is lacking something.

Dilana is the bomb,the real deal,the total package,and IMO gonna win this thing.That was mine and the wifes pick the second she whipped off the hoddy in the chorus of Lithium(week one)and went nuts with energy and power,OMG :shock: and keeped it in tune,not like some of the other's who's voices hit the ditch when they tried it.Both Z and Jill where really bad for that.
I like the new twist,where everyone gets to do a SUPERNOVA tune.That way I can make my mind up if I wanna buy the disc when it is released
1. They gave Zayra a great opportunity for a solo career in her genre.
2. Once Patrice is gone, it will be \"game on\" for the real contenders.
3. Magni's version of Creep, completely blew Lukas' version out of the water. The one trick pony is now in trouble.
