stoopid bleedin dial up connection! i actually had listed tons of axemen but imy connection dropped - anyway - i started to realise that there is no way you could list all of them - so tell us who they are instead of voting - if you want.
im really into peter green and robby kreiger at the moment - and i dont know who he is but that guy in Jefferson Airplane = pretty wicked!
Greg Howe, Michael Romeo, Jason Becker, Michael Lee Furkins, John Petrucci.... Jimi Page not really a current favorite but I grew up on it, among other things.
How about jazzers? Love Joe Pass... Tuck Andress is one of the sickest players I've ever seen. Many others, too many nameless unfortunately...
Whattyakidding? There's a pile o' great players out there...and that's even before you start going into various genre`. I like Lifeson, Knopfler, Morse, Blount, Fogelberg, Mitchell, yada yada...this could be a LOOONG thread!!!
how about GEORGE THEROGOOD :shock: LOL I'm just kidding
there sure are plenty of great guitarist out there tony macalpine,viv cambell,VH,akira takasaki, too many to have a favorite, OH and lets not for get mr vai.
Once long ago I went to see yngvie(alcatraz), Well the day before the show they announced that yngvie quit the band. And the one and only steve vai steped in. I had front row @10 feet from him and I want to tell you THAT GUY IS UNBELEVABLE TO WATCH---HIS TECHNIQUE AND HE MAKES THE FUNNIEST FACES---very cool show
That wasn't the best photo...but it was a way to drop a couple more names...heh heh.
I think with the right camera filter...you'd understand the hair loss.
Saint-triani has the most magnificent HALO.
( in the spirit world he has beautiful hair...price for remaining mortal..) 8)
Hey, I think it's great that Satch proves that you don't have to have 'the look\" to make it in the music business today
My favorites by category are:
Overall = Satch
Pure talent/ innovation = EVH, Vai
Finesse = Steve Morse
Texture = Andy Summers
INSANE speed = Petrucci, Paul Gilbert
Tone = Eric Johnson, Ty Taber
Slow but tasty = Gilmore
Blues = Hendrix, Robin Trower, SRV
Jazz Fusion = Alan Holdsworth, George Paleo (Gamalon)
Relaxing = James Taylor
Right on insideout - there's no way to name one best guitarist, or even pick a favorite - they all do something different. I'm down w/most of your picks too, although I'm a Lifeson Junkie...
Right now I am studying techniques from Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, and Dimebag Darrell.
Thats not saying those three are my only favorirtes, but they are at the top of my list.
This could go on a long, long time...
I'll limit it to my top 10 with web links should any of you guys want to listen and see these fantatstic guitarists perform...
I like Vai, Malmsteen, Marcel Coenen, Satriani, Lifeson (since I've been growing up with their music), Alexi Laiho and I guess you could count me because I can play alot of this music.
Love ya TAL for all the names you listed, and ...Thankz as well... for the links.
You are one cool ...wait....wait....gotta put my shades on first... 8)
..you are one cool Cat... as I'm sure \"The Thumb\" would say about you.
Chet was my first guitar God...and I should say...George Benson a close second.
While you stayed the course...I made a left ....because I just ain't right. :?
a. Eric Johnson :shock:
b. James Burton
c. Les Paul
d. Alex Lifeson
e. Chet Atkins
f. Roy Clark
g. Dave Gilmour 8)
h. Santana
i. Kenny Burrell
j. George Benson
k. Tony Iommi
WOW, I can't really believe I'm the only one to have voted for Hendrix!
I was surprised at that too. I voted for Page because I thought he'd be the underdog. In part also because the first post looked like archon forgot to take his meds... :roll:

Bein' a RUSH head, I'm just thrillled that there are guys out there that are aware of Lifeson, his ability, and his creativity. How many of you guys knew he is self-taught? :shock:
So anyway, if any of you RUSH heads out there have good-lookin' sisters, have 'em give me a call!!! :twisted:
Doyle Dykes - fingerpicker for God
Clapton - There is never a misplaced note.
Hendrix - I just wish there was more.
John McLaughlin - my first guitar hero
Steve Howe - A master technician
One time, I saw Eric Clapton, Steve Howe and Doyle Dykes in a one month stretch. Clapton was the third best guitarist I saw!
With so many Metal Heads out there I'm suprized no one Mentioned Kirk Hammett, Dave Mustane, Kerry King, Scot Ian. There were some links in a post a while ago were I was exposed to some guitarist I knew very little about?? Michall DeAngelo Betea?? Shawn Lane??
Kirk Hammet etc are not very innovative, and when compared with Vai etc are not very .... um they dont compare very well. No offense, just telling why i didnt pick them.

Who you are currently studying list, even shorter still.
If I had to name only one artist...there is one who is on all my lists...
Joe Satriani.
