Plz help me Identify this Gibson Les Paul
I'm considering buying this axe second hand, but the current owner does not know much about it (he just sells it).
Plz help me get some info on this axe and it's current value.
It's a gibson LP. On the headstock it reads : Gibson Les Paul Model
Serial number: 92105637 / USA. I know from the gibson site that it's made in 1995 (day 210) in Nashville.
Does anyone know from this info what the exact type is? Anychance you can 'guess' the specs? Is this a top-of-the-bill Gibson or a relatively cheap Gibson? Any clue at what it's worth?
Below are some pics:

Thanks for any help/tips etc.

Looks to me like yer generic Les Paul Classic. Sweet...although not a hidden jem or some rare custom bird.
Looks like the vintage sunburst finish, Gotoh tuners...rosewood fingerboard, mohagany...('60's neck?), and your expected nickel hardware. There are so many humbuckers...no way to tell you what is on there...but they are most likely mid-range level. CTS pots and bumblebee capacitors??
Sells new for $1800 with hardshell case. (retails like $2600)
is it hard to tell? I've never owned a gibson (or a guitar over 700$) so I can't tell at all...;)
One of our dealers took in a JEM on trade and had no idea it was a fake. He gave the guy 750 on trade and has a nice $200 JEM copy. The giveaway was the trem system with no markings at all. The rest looked as legit as it gets.
Gibson guitars do appreciate value with age. So a 95 could go higher on market value.
The horn cutaway on this pic is what catches me. Seems more rounded than typical LP's are if you look close enough. Could just be a bad angle. I'd request another shot of the headstock and inner cavity. many LP models have the same ID stamped in the tone cavity ridge.
First two photos are of a fake you could own for $200.
Last two photos are of a Gibson you'd need $2000.
The headstock detail at the very top is cut different. The point about the script doesn't always seperate the fake from real. You will have to take everything into consideration. See if you can get a few better photos, or I'm afraid this is the best we can do to help.
edit...no need for those photos now.
Thanks guys for helping out!
The right Les Paul will come along for you, and you'll know it when you find it.
On a personal note....WHEN is Spring ever gonna come?? It was -5 C this morning here in Northern Michigan. Weather any better where you live? It is a nice place to live though. Here is a photo from one of the roads I travel, showing my home town.
Spring arrived here about 3 days ago. Nice weather, nice temps. Guess it will take awhile for spring to cross the ocean :P
let me know your thoughts
If he's willing to sell it for $400 ....then it is most likely a fake. Offer $200. or get it authenticated, and stipulated as such, and make a more appropriate offer.
There's also a story behind the guitar. It's not his guitar, but the guitar of his brother in law who passed away last year. He's selling it on behalf of his sister and doesn't know anything about guitars. I think they just wanna get rid of it and take whatever they can get for it.
But man, it may just be a made-up story to sell it....arghghgh
True, you may also be passing up a deal of a lifetime.....but then there is the saying....if it seems too good to be true....it probably is.
It's easier to stay out of trouble than to get out of trouble.
final bid was over 800 euro's (850ish $) so it's out of my range anyway. I'm still not sure if it was a real one... will see if I can contact the buyer.
If that LesPaul was for real....850 bones was a super buy. Hope whomever did win the bid has a genuine Gibson.
Right now...my weakness would be for an exceptional Stratocaster...but I have some Doctor bills to pay off....so I best behave.
Got my self a Vox AC30 instead.... me=happy :P
And even if it was real, and a good deal, you still were taking a big chance. There's a ZILLION LP's out there, and you're much better off with one you can actually pick up and play, be sure you like the action and sound, and have a better chance of NOT gettnig screwed. Keep looking - and if anyone finds a nice late 70's/early 80's Ibanez Artist, send it to me!
