  • I have a UA-25 going into USB, and plug GNX units directly into it. It's a solid interface, pretty much if you don't have a GNX3 instead of GNX4, UA-25 makes up for the USB audio functions that 3 is missing. Plus UA-25 much more playback-friendly, meaning that unlike GNX4 you won't have to turn your output way down to hear something playing back.

Another thing I do is plug the RCA-out on the UA-25 into GNX3 CD-in (using a RCA-TRS cable) and jam along that way - works perfectly.

As far as recording digital, works fine except disables just about everything else on the unit. Likewise, there are other limitations to UA-25 such as if you're using digi-out you can't use direct monitoring, etc.

Plus, to go into it from a GNX3 you have to use a converter unit because the UA-25 is toslink and not coax like GNX. The adapter costs about $10 at radioshack (including power supply), but you'll need to get a lightpipe cable which could be more money depending on the brand and length (my 3-foot monster one cost $40). If you already have one for your home theater or something you could steal that!

But overall, UA-25 is a nice, portable unit that's pretty easy to set up for basic operations. As we speak, I have my GNX3 plugged directly into its combo jacks, going in stereo to a track on Sonar, plus GenEdit running from the UA-25 midi to/from GNX.
