Michael Angelo = RAWKED!

Shawn Lane = I just didn't get it. All madness, no method in my opinion. The intro solo turned me off to the point where I didn't watch it beyond the first 2 minutes. Some may appreciate that style, but it's just not for me.

I've gotta agree with GNX Jammer here. Michael Angelo was musical - Shane Lane was just a mess of sound. And why put a drummer behind what Shane Lane was doing? Granted, the technical expertise is impressive - I certainly don't possess that type of skill and ability - but I also didn't even make it to the two minute mark (GNX Jammer - I applaud your tolerance). Yuck...

I agree that the intro of Shawn Lane's video might seem like nonstop chaos-like shred, but fast forward and/or watch the rest of the video to hear his other live songs and to see him demonstrate his licks/technique. Trust me, it is worth it. This guy was on a totally different level both musically and technique-wise.

I have to agree with GNX Jammer that the intro solo was a bunch of noise but as you watch more of the video you get to see and hear how incredible this guy is. Pretty cool! I still like Eddie better. :P

Shawn Lane passed away at the age of 40 on September 26, 2003 due to a lung related illness.

Still he was a remarkable talent. RIP

I also did not get the shredding, jazz-like phasing and almost gave up. I am so glad that I hung in there. The guy shows some great little hints on playing in different positions to avoid having to mute strings, etc.

wow - that gypsy guy, that the best acoustic guitar ive seen since steve howe's the clap. he blows the pants off michael angelo, whos still doing the same thing he was doing 20 years ago, but back then he was doing it with 2 necks.

and the ukulele, i love how into it he gets. someone give that boy a guitar and see what he can do!

I like YOUR videos immensely. Totally relaxed, excellent explanations, good form, and great technique. Really nice to watch. A good approach to technique in every lesson and I have watched them all. Great job on a great resource. Thanks Dave!!!!

If you want to hear the original gypsy jazz guy check out Django Rheinhart. Unbelievable playing from the 30's, 40's 50's, and 60's and all with only two fingers. I think you will be amazed.

Shawn Lane is the most incredible talent I ever saw, to call his music a pile of shit is like calling Hendrix an out of tune bum or Holdsworth, elevator music. Jeez that guy plays keyboard better than I play guitar for gawds sake.

Thanks a lot! I figured my instructional dvd might help to explain and demonstrate things I use that have helped my lead guitar technique, even though I really only consider myself to be an average \"shredder\".

That Ekelele Shredder was something else! Wow... to get that much sound from that thing!

The other clips were amazing as well. The Gypsy Shredder is an incredible talent. I've seen the 8 year old shredder before. Also amazing! They ALL were.

I'm going to check out the Dave Z clips sometime today. Thanks for posting them Dave Z!!!
