GNX4 into SonarX2 on Windows 7

I have searched and searched and tried everything under the sun but I can't get the ASIO drivers for the GNX4 to work with Sonar. X-Edit works fine on Win 7 Prof / x64. The Digitech Usb ports show up in Sonar but the incoming audio is zero. In Windows under recording devices all the incoming guitar signal is under some Generic Usb device and not ported to the Digitech line in either 1/2 or 3/4. Tried ASIO beta for Digitech and the latest driver install pack. Also tried ASIO4All but using this says device not connected in Sonar. Man, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, cleaned the registry by hand and nothing. On a side note, I can get the GNX4 to work by using the left line out to a M-Audio Fast Track then into Sonar. Works but not the way the GNX should.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Just got the GNX4 about two weeks ago and loaded Firmware 1.4 also. Nice piece of equipment I might add even though I am a noob at the Guitar and recording.

My suggestion: if you have any hair left, stop trying to record with a computer. Spend $100 and get a nice MR-8 or something - you'll spend your time playing and recording, instead of jerking off your hardware trying to make it work.
Just an opinion (from a veteran of years of trying to get computer solutions to work...now I record on a 24-track Tascam)
  • Yeah I know but it's one of those things that I just have to figure out. Again, I ain't good enough yet to buy a bunch more stuff. I do appreciate your input though. You're right, spend more f'n time tweakin than playin.
  • I can relate. And gear is expensive, and there's a lot of it!
That said...you can pick up a Fostex MR-8 on ebay in good shape for under $100. It's not a studio or even a computer workstation, but it makes great recordings and is incredibly easy to use. It'll allow you to PLAY, record, create, and inspire you to experiment and learn.
I still have the recordings I made on my MR-8 when I was just starting to record and learn how to do it. They're surely not Grammy material, but they hold up as good work and I'm proud of what I was able to do with no experience, some simple gear, and the desire to create. Go for it. I'd bet a pack of strings that if you continue to 'flock' with computer recording, you'll be so frustrated that you'll take up basket weaving or paint the garage every weekend.
  • Thanks Shredd for the advice... It didn't beat me. Fixed it yesterday by restoring to a previous image before Sonar and GNX4 were loaded and got the ASIO4All drivers to work. Imagine that!! Anyway I'm stoked about having a signal coming into Sonar off Digitech USB 1/2. Really liked this piece of equipment when I saw and after lots of reading including a lot of posts in this forum, yours too!, I bought one. Looking forward to learing and having fun with it.

Ticks ya off when you don't know exactly why it worked this time. Oh well, I'll make another image of it now when it's working and have that as a backup.
