  • I use an HP Pavillion DV6-2155DX

It's main purpose is for music recording so I can take it with me,
I also use it for work when I travel out of town.

    - Core i3 2.13GHZ Dual Core, 4GB ram, win7 64-bit
    - Sound card sucks for music, but I use GNX3k/GNX4 USB interface
    - HDMI (so I can watch whatever on my HDTV) or dual monitors
    - VGA for other multi monitor use.
    - Remote control, used with Hapauge usb tv tuner for digital tv
    - SD Card reader for my JamMan files to edit or include in loop recording
    - Number pad a must, I hate laptops with no num pad.
    - 15.6\" widescreen, not too big not too small. works great

The soundcard is fine for everyday use, but is worhtless for music recording, if you are recording, then you will not use the onboard anyway, pretty much all onboard sound cards are not good for recording.

Firewire is legacy, slow, USB2.0, and USB3.0 are much, much faster, and better. forget firewire unless you ave a device you have to have.

I prefer Intel CPUs over AMD due the fact that Intel runs faster, and cooler. and in my experience of computers I recommed Intel.

as for screen sizes, if want to be portable, get a small laptop, and use an external monitor for at home, or studio when more desktop space is needed. I use multi-monitor setups.

Don't forget the DVD-RW so you can make CDs, although CDs are becoming absolete, It's nice to hear your music in the car to see what it sounds like. or blu-ray if you plan to watch blu-ray movies. Personally I dont. I just have the DVD-RW.

there is no need for super fast CPU like core i7 unless your doing video rendering, I suppose it would speed up the audio engine, and relieve stress on the CPU. I do recommend a 64-bit OS, and at least 4GB DDR3 ram, I have a Core i7 desktop if I need the extra power,

For video rendering I use my desktop with 3 Nvidia GTX285 GPUs as my laptop does not render video near as fast, but does a good job in ample time. I don't recomend a gaming video card for laptop, as the heat will kill the laptop alot faster then usual, I know this for a fact, it's what I do. Unless you use it in a cold enviroment. Plus the cost is rediculous.

Here's what I run, all simultanouesly:
    Hardware:
    1 GNX3000
    1 GNX4
    1 JamMan Stereo

    Software:
    Digitech xEdit
    Cubase Ai4
    JanMan Interface
and other things like music cd, facebook, etc...

Also I edit back and fourth from the GNX4 to the GNX3k,
Xedit gives me 2 tabs, 1 for each..

Well I had some free time, and enjoyed writing this, hope it helps.
