  • What do you mean, install \"gnx 4 into my comp\"? Are you trying to use X-Edit? Use it to record? What part is not working?
  • I apologize for my wording, I used to use the recording software x-edit 1.2 that was sent with the purchase of my gnx4, but I was using windows 2000 @ the time, now that we have updated our system to windows vista,,,,that's not in the book I have,,and I can't seem to find a straight, how to get the gnx4 useable on vista.
From installing which drivers #$%^%&^&$#,,,,,,,,,,and all that, I don't know what it is I am looking for to get me going on vista,,I apologoze for my ignorance,, :?
  • just connect to usb port and let vista auto run the driver. Do not install older windows drivers on the newer Vista etc.

If that does not work, try the newer firmware.

update for Vista and should work with Win 7.

  • with the gnx4, it also came with pro tracks recording software, i have it installed but i'm not sure what to do to get the software to read the info from the gnx4, something about audio and midi drivers,,,,again I don't know,,

Thank you for your help thus far, I love the gnx4 for what it can do, I also use it in my live rig as well, but the tech stuff is almost to much for me,,,that's what happens when you give a redneck a computer,,lol
  • ProTracks Plus is a simplified version of A very dated Sonar 2. It has not been updated by the vendor for any Windows revision since XP.

You might want to try downloading Reaper. I think it's $60 after the trial is up but its far better than PTP. Other cakewalk versions like Home Studio 7Xl might be better alternatives.

When using the GNX with newer Vista or Win 7, the newer daw software will be better at detection.

You'll also want to use asio4all drivers.

You can even try using the asio4all drivers and see if they work on Pro Tracks Plus. From some it does, others it does not.

  • thank you very much for your time and input, it's ppl like yourself that make's looking for info so nice, again thank you very much :D
  • Hey guys, I wonder if someone can help here,

My old XP machine died a few months ago, and I got a new Win7 PC.

In an above reply, Mike stated to just go ahead, plug in the GNX, and let Windows (Vista) \"find\" its driver.

I did this, and SOMETHING installed, but when I opened up the DAW (Sonar7) and went to Options-MIDI, the GNX4 was NOT there to be selected. There used to be a \"Digitech USB MIDI\" option available, this time there's none.

And when I checked Windows Devices and Printers, it shows a very generic \"USB Device\" installed. Which means that NONE of the GNX's specific functionality was installed, right??

So, all of you using Vista/7, did you just plug in your GNX4 and everything was recognized, or did you install the driver from DT's site?

    Thanks for any assistance.

  • Last week, I tried GNX with Windows 7 for the first time. All I did was plug it in and turned on the computer; everything else worked fine. The MIDI devices showed up as USB MIDI Editor twice, the first one being the MIDI device. Even hands-free was working right out of the box. This is all with a standard ProTracks installation.

The general advice for Vista and later is to not install anything from Digitech (if you have, remove it first), and let Windows install the drivers automatically.
  • Thanks, iliace. I wasn't aware that \"USB MIDI Editor\" was the designation for the GNX in Sonar/PTP. In my old XP system, what showed up in Options-MIDI was \"Digitech USB MIDI\".

Right now, the only thing that shows up in the Options is \"USB MAC\", which is a Windows data transport layer protocol (Media Access Control), and not an audio/MIDI interface driver.

If you're telling me that your GNX just \"plugged and played\" in Win 7 (64 bit), then maybe mine just didn't install correctly. However, it does seem to have installed SOME KIND of driver, since a generic \"USB device\" does show up in Device Mngr...
  • I have Win7 64-bit as well. It showed up as two generic USB Audio devices, but when you select one as an input it showed the usual Digitech 1/2 Left, Digitech 1/2 Right, and Digitech 1/2 Stereo - and same for 3/4 of the second pair of USB channels.

Also, the driver mode for my setup is WMD, that would make a difference - it's possible (I'm not certain) that USB MAC is something that shows up in ASIO mode.
  • when using VISTA you should update the GNX4 firmware to version 1.14. Email support@digitech to have the firmware update and instructions sent to you.
