rp1000 solo boost?

OK ... i've been using the rp1000 for about a year now and I just can't seem to set up a solo boost that I like. Any suggestions? At this point I run a little EQ in all my settings and just boost the EQ levels to get a boost channel. It's just not great in my opinion. Should I just take out the EQ from all the other channels and then just use it for a solo boost rather than run everything with a little EQ and up the levels for a boost? Open to suggestions. I run tube amp heads utilizing the 4 cable method.

thanks !

Here's what I recently discovered and I've found really useful. Most of my patches have an amp level setting between about 50 and 70. If you use the XEdit editor to edit your patches you can assign an Amp Level change to one of your footswitches (I use the compressor footswitch 6 for this) to switch between normal and solo boosted amp levels. So for example if I had a patch with a normal amp level of 60 I would do the following:

    1. Connect the RP1000 to the computer
    2. Start XEdit and load the relevant patch
    3. Go to the expression page in XEdit
    4. Select Amp Level for Footswitch 6
    5. Set the minimum level to 60 (the normal amp level for the patch)
    6. Set the maximum to say something like 70

Now when that patch is loaded if I want a solo boost I simply hit footswitch 6.

The only thing I'm not sure about is whether this could be employed when using your own amp as the pre-amp under a 4CM setup however you might find another parameter you could tie a footswitch to to achieve a similar result. e.g. tie it to the mid level for your patch's EQ settings and boost your mids to cut through the mix during solos.
  • Using what makka described, you can also try using a stompbox effect or compression to boost your lead. RP1000 can only do one parameter for footswitch assignments, so try different ones and see what works for your particular tone.

I use GNXs, and I just use the stompbox for a lead boost for distorted tones. If you're not already using the compressor, you can try that as well - compress more and add makeup gain - the Digitech model might be particularly useful for this, since you are also able to make tone adjustments.

If you're using the 4CM method with an amp, be mindful of the effect chain placement - boost before or after the amp will make a difference.
