GNX4 Software Installation Guide (not included?!?)
So... yes, as the topic title sortof eludes to, I purchased a used GNX4 that did not include software, or anything that came with it other than the power adapter. Digitech graciously provides updated drivers (with a piss-poor automated setup/install program), X-Edit, and a PDF \"user manual\" online. However, of course they totally omit the Software Installation Guide. WITHOUT A DOUBT, I am not the first, or the last, individual to encounter this ridiculous predicament. I figured, \"No worries, surely there's a user community out there who have certainly engaged this foolishness and posted some step-by-step instructions that at the very least make the Software Installation Guide look puny and obsolete.\" But, NO! If such a thing does exist, it is apparently buried somewhere deep within the internet labrynth or otherwise non-existent. I have 'googled', I have search, combed, scanned, and attempted to astral-f*#@ing-travel to wherever this thing might be located, but haven't had any luck.
WHY!?! Almighty Digitech Gods?!?! Hast thou forsaken the secondhanders that grant value to your discontinued products which may hath been forgotten by their maker, yet not by thy worshipers!
Okay, all cynicism aside. Let me beg forgiveness for my attitude. If I've come off as being rude, disrespectful, or pretentious... I'm truly sorry. I just really, really, really would love it if somebody can explain what needs to be done to properly install these drivers.
I connected the GNX4 via USB to my PC, and it recognized it. It then went through five, or more, screens of detecting and installing the recommended drivers. Then, I ran the setup file that I got from Digitech's website (which, in a FAQ I read somewhere, is what you're supposed to do?). I can get sound via USB into my DAW just fine... but I can't get the CF Storage button to respond when I press it... therefor, I am prevented from using the GNX4 card-reader feature. I recognize that this isn't a huge issue (as I do possess a USB multi-card reader that I am able to use for cleaning up the card, etc). I'm sure that something like heaven might dawn if I this thing would work perfectly.
Sorry about my rambling, seriously... but can anybody out there shed some light on what this elusive software installation guide recommends???
While I wait to see if this stirs up some sympathy from some knowledgible individual out there, I will go uninstall everything that my computer auto-installed, and try hitting cancel for everything when I reconnect the GNX4... then re-run the Setup Program and see what happens.
Then, if that doesn't work... I think I'll nail my head to a railroad tie and hope for the best.
Please help us!
EDIT ONE!!!
So it turns out... this unit was, in another life, a DEMO unit! And check this out! When they designate one of these units as a Demo Unit, they leave a little .txt. file on the root directory of the CF card that is simply named something like \"demomode\", or \"demounit\", or something like that... either way, the moment I noticed it I said \"You Do Not Belong!\", and I deleted it (of course, I did this with the card plugged into my handy-dandy card reader... not the GNX4). I plugged the CF back into the GNX4, it did it's little \"READING\" thing... and then viola! Suddenly it worked. I press the CF storage button, and a new drive is detected on my PC! BUt wait! It gets even better. Before this, there was also limited functionality regarding my ability to designate different inputs on \"CF/USB 1-2 SRC\". Before, it was restricted exclusively to STEROALL. Anyways. It's been a few days since I had that little break through... and then I used it in a practice the same night. It went well. The world is a better place now. Sometimes just sitting down and puking out my problems to random people yields amazing results! w3rd. Thanks to guitar3456 and shred for offering their input, opinions, and assistance. And yes... regardless, peeps at Digitech should have digitalized the damned software installation guide if not to provide for a smoother install experience to the second-hand user, then at least for those who are having some random unrelated problem and something to go by in ruling out other possible issues (feels like that sentence didn't make sense... but hopefully you get the point).
CHEERS! Thanks! I'll be around.

Usually the installs are pretty simple and what was in the manual is sufficient. The only thing is the part where the install prompts user during the driver signing to \"continue anyway\", if you click continue anyway, it works.
There are hosts of other hardware related issues not GNX specific for many end user installer troubles.
For the USB and other issues, what matters are things like:
are you using the same USB port as on the install?
is your usb cable good
CF related issues:
Did you format the CF card?
Be cautious of removing and adding files on the CF card when using other readers/hardware. You could accidentally remove files relative to the CF card usage in the GNX4.
For the CF Storage button to work, USB connectivity light on the GNX4 should be on (its by the dial wheel). Press CF Storage after you have verified the CF card works in the GNX4 recorder.
To get the GNX4 properly installed and config'd on a puter is a serious prickly ordeal that has to be done EXACTLY right...those instructions should ABSOLUTELY be available. It would take some DigiTech IT dweeb about an hour to do it, and save lots of users endless pain...oh...wait...why would they care - THEY ALREADY HAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
