Let's hear your version

We did something like this in another forum I frequent and it turned out to be lots of fun, so I thought it could be some fun here. This is a backing track I pulled off the Line 6 site. The idea is I played a solo over it now I want to hear everyone else's take on it that wants to contribute. Keep all entries in this post and I will keep them organized by who posted it so they wiil be easy to listen to all from one place. So get busy and lets hear it. Backing track is in A Major.
I used a GNX3 with the Solo preset, Squire Strat, and Sonar 8.5 with some miner EQ tweeks and add some reverb and comp on the master track. My solo track was panned right to about 56%

Backing track is here = http://www.box.net/shared/q1mcgu4rs9

  • The problem here is ... Your like .. a real musician, and I am a dolt
I get some time to fiddle with the DL an other computer related stuff with this I'll give it a try. But even with a lil confidense for me to sustain a 3 an a half min. jam, might be stretching it...
  • Rawb,
No pressure to do this. I thought it could be fun to see the different
takes that people would have on this with everyone’s difference in playing styles.
I find it exhausting to try and come up with things that even remotely sound original.
I thought this could be something that we could just all just pound out something to
without a great deal of thought. Just for the record, my definition of a musician is someone who gets paid to play. I my friend do not get paid. Hope you go ahead and give this a shot, because I like both kinds of music, good and bad. LOL
  • I'm with Rawb...it's a great b/t, nice cruise'y blues jam.
But...besides being a lame-@$$ blues player, I honestly don't think I could perform a worthy jam for 3+ minutes without sounding like the rank amateur I am.
I did consider d/l'g it and doing my usual \"\"fill it up with fun stuff\" treatment, but a straight-up blues jam doesn't really lend itself to that - it requires actual ability, which when it comes to straight-up blues, I don't have...sigh...no wonder Shania doesn't return my phone calls... :P
  • Ok! I was thinking it could be fun, but maybe it is a bad idea.
I'll leave up the links for a couple more days and then delete them
if the post get's no takers. Rawb, and Shred, thanks for your thoughts on this.
  • I have absolutely no time this week, but I'll definitely post something when I get a chance. :) We haven't done this around here in a while.

You're a lame blues player? How did you start out learning to play lead? Just about everyone I know started with blues in one form or another...

Well...I started the same way as everyone - fiddling around with pentatonics, then eventually trying to apply them to various key structures.
But when it comes to playing blues...well, I'm just not very inventive. I could see people rolling their eyes at my uncreative efforts...
  • Well I certainly do not play blues either. & my ability well not so great either! BUT I will give it go :D not sure when I will get the chance either but I think this could be fun when I get the time to mess with it! 8)

Don't take it down.. :? I never said I wouldn't .. I said I would give it a shot , just can't get to it right off.. hehck embarrassing myself is my forte' :P
  • This sounds like fun.

Count me in. I'll see if I can get something recorded/posted in the next few days.

Ok! Now we are getting somewhere. Thanks Iliace, Partch, Rawb, E.J, and Shred, I hope you go ahead and try. This is a forum devoted to guitar players, NO ?

Me too. I'm gearing up for a local open mic soon, four or five songs. Considering I hadn't even seen my git'rs for nearly a year up to a few weeks ago, and I've never been able to sing my way out of a paper bag, I suspect I'll be humiliating myself to a degree never yet reached in my illustrious playing career... :?

I seriously doubt anyone here cares.

'Course not. But thanks for pointing it out. :?
  • This is a great idea, more fun than a old primate should be allowed. Shoot the backing track is better than anything i have done, so it could stand alone in my book, my chunky/clunky blues lead will just mess it up, but thats the fun of it and listning to you alls playing will be cool. game on, wait car.
  • Hey T/A/S...
I decided I should take a crack at this, in order to put forth the impression that there's a reason for me to be here.
I d/l'd the b/t to put on my Tascam...jammed with it a while and then did a coupla takes to see what came outta the wash.
Not so hot...by the time I was done, an appropriate title would've been \"SRV-wannabe Pentatonic Blues\". I could barely fill 12 bars, let alone 3-1/2 minutes  Ridiculously unimpressive, so much so that I won't humiliate myself by posting it. There are so many easier ways to humiliate myself.
But I won't make any excuses, except for stating the obvious: RUSH doesn't play blues. So I never learned how. Maybe if I drank more. A LOT more. :P

Well I really want to play with a band now, what fun it is to sign and play a bluey song today.
  • DenSco,
Good for you man. Glad you posted. Feels good to get that out I'll bet. Also you jammed it out all the way. Nice one!
  • Hey DenSco that was a good take! It was good to hear something else not that Stratmans wasn't excellent. I've played thru with this now a couple of times & it seems everytime is a new adventure! I'm just going to have to hit record & go & it will be what it will because as I have said I'm going to get something different everytime. I would like to record the Mesa on Blues ch for this one 8) So it would be a matter of getting tit home & an hour or so of time. I'll try to do it soon here maybe this weekend comming? This one is out. Happy Memorial day to all! God bless the USA! Thanks to all the fallen that took bullets for me for my rights & Freedoms which dwindle more & more each day! :x it's an Obomanation
  • I must say I am a little disappointed that one other brave soul and myself were the only
ones who tried to play something to this backing track. I had read several posts that members felt that this sight was dead, and this was my attempt to try to shake the trees to see what fell out. Maybe it was my choice of the type of backing track that was used, maybe it needed to be more rock influenced, but I thought any player could take a whack at some blues. At any rate 2 people out of all the people that frequent the songs forum to submit a post is indeed a sign of something, like maybe a lot of lurkers and not that many members hitting the song sights, or I am missing out on the next latest craze, where it’s more fun to talk about playing than to actually play. At any rate this was my total lame a$$ attempt to create some forum fun. I am not taking my ball and mitt and going home, just saying I am disappointed.
  • I do intend to do something with this (thanks for the reminder by the way). I've gone so far as to make a copy of it on my home computer. Problem is - when you are playing in four bands, two of whom are in the process of releasing studio albums, and one other that periodically lands respectable gigs, it's very difficult to find time. By the time I'm home most evenings, I have too much unfinished business to worry about music.

I honestly didn't mean to disappoint. Early next week is looking like a dim light at the end of a tunnel, so I'll record something Monday and post it on Tuesday.

Yeah I got this thing pulled into a project. Jammed Improved with it. 3 times or so? i've just yet to hit the record button while jamming with it. I wanted to Record my Mesa for this Bluesy thing  So that as well as time busyness has been getting in the way As my amp is kept at Church. Thanks for the reminder as well Strat man I kind of forgott as well :)
  • Last minute high profile project at work the week before I went to Hawaii that had to be completed before I left for vacation kept me from it.

Just got back this past Saturday and now playing catch-up at work, so hope to have some time next week to record some of the ideas I'd noodled around with shortly after you posted the track.

Life happens. Music is a hobby.

  • Whoa...don't take down the link yet. I'm up for it. I'll download the MP3 and take a whack at it. I haven't been on here in a while, so I'm just now seeing this. As a matter of fact the last time I was on here, I collabed with Shredd. I should be able to get something for you soon, depending on my real-life schedule.
  • Hey I'm up for it just got the track I remember it from the Line 6 Spider Jam I had for a while it had some probs so I took it back to Guitar center. I may try to add vocals if i can find some words \"Poor white boy aint got no marshmallows for my hot chocolate blues, Lord I really paid my dues\" Turn around ba dump a da gimme a little while.

    :)
