switching effects on th rp500
i dont have an rp500 yet, and I'm not savy to the current capabilities cause i've been out of the game for a while, so my terms will be very general.
Iis it posible to assign more than one effect, for example, distortion and delay, to a single footswitch? and if so, is it possible to switch to another set of affects on a different footswitch without having to turn off the 1st one and vice versa?
Finally, if this pedal doesnt do it, is there one out there that does!? because otherwise, Im not interested. That is what would truly be \"tapdance free\" to me.

I set up my RP-500 and I attack the 'challenge' which is that I want to assign a certain set of effects to a switch (ex. switch # 1) and another set of effects to a second switch (ex. switch # 3). Every time I've tried to do it, it seems that I've been limited to a single group of five effects, for example,
'group of settings 1 - 5 (RECTO, COOL CHO, SOLO DLY, BOOG MAN & SMTHJAZZ)'
'group of settings 6 - 10 (PLEXIDRV, SUPRCLYD, VOXDELAY, WHAMMY & ACOUSTIC)'
'group of settings 11 - 15 (CHORUSFX, OVRDRVFX, DELRVBFX, SPRINGFX & PHSDLYFX)', etc.
The numbers ('1 - 5', '6 - 10', '11 - 15', etc.)are the names of the groups, by the way.
Here's where it gets sticky for me. So far, I've been wanting to take specific effects settings from two different groups of 5 (ex. 'group # 7' & 'group # 19') but I haven't figured out how to do it yet. It may not even be possible. What happens is that as soon as I go out of 'group # 7' and into 'group # 19', then all of the effects settings in 'group # 19' are brought up and the effects settings of 'group # 7' are made no longer applicable, including the effects settings that I've already assigned to a switch . Likewise, if I go back to 'group # 7', then 'group # 19' is put aside.
So, in a way, yes, you can assign a set of effects at one switch and a different set to another switch but you have to stay within (again, as far as I've figured out) one group of five effects settings.
I suppose, by taking the effect settings in within a group and modifying them completely differently, you can accomplish what you set out to do.
So, to repeat myself, yes, you can do what you set out to do but there are limitations. Nevertheless, with creative manipulation of the massively large 'resources' available with the RP-500, you can create whatever sound you wish.
For me, I'd rather be able to assign one or more effects settings from one group to the switches with which I want to work and one or more effects settings from different groups to the other switches. For me that would be easier because I can go from an effects setting that's close to what I want to use instead of having to totally recreate something different. To go from a grunge-like Fender amp setting to a clean Brit-like Vox amp sound seems awfully ponderous to me.
Maybe you can do those things more easily than I can. If so, great!
Bottom line, the RP-500 is a super multi stomp box with which to work. I'm really glad that I own one.
I had hoped to be able to have access to effects settings from different groups of 5 (ex. group 1 - 5 & group 26 - 30) but I found out that, even through the computer, I'm limited to working within a single group of 5 effects settings.
If I happened to want to use more than 5 effects settings (ex. 8 settings) for several songs during a performance, I'd have to scroll up to the next group of 5 effects settings. This is, for all intents and purposes, just a minor nuisance in the stompbox's use. The only time that it might be a causes for problems is that, in the same song, you have to use two or more effects settings which are stored in two different effects settings group. Even then, with some quick foot work, it can be done.
I did discover, by working within each effects setting (through the computer), that I can create a whole new sound package at each setting. All I have to do is modify the characteristics of the effects setting (distortion, delay, chorus, compressor, wah, etc.). At worst, I turn off all of the characteristics of the effects settings and rebuild from nothing. Then, I give that new effects setting a new name.
For me, that's a big task at this stage of my 'development' but it can be done. I should get better at it with each time that I have to do it for a variety of songs.
So, there you go.
By the way, I noticed, upon going through what I said the last time, that my post was cut off. Just as well, I suppose since I didn't add anything new that would have been useful.
I wonder what the character limit is for posts in this site. It doesn't say or, at least, I haven't found it.
