Doubtful. In fact, DT has probably sent hitmen to his house to discourage him from touting the GNX's anymore.
The workshop is about looping and such, so he'll probably be using whatever is the latest available unit. Or get his thumbs broken...
  • I wasn't paying attention back on March 22nd.
Joe Satriani was at the Ft. Wayne store, and I was only a hop & a skip away.
    Coulda-shoulda-woulda. :?
  • I think Anderton really liked the GNX4. It was not too long ago in EQ Magazine that he suggested the GNX4 as a great home recorder/effects box for many applications. And that was way past the time Digitech retired the GNX4. But I doubt if the GNX4 will even get a mention at a current gear show. They will be demo'ing the new products that they actually sell.
  • What's funny is I have seen posts from other forums where players are asking what ever happened to the broader function multieffects like the GNX4. After some discussion most say they never knew the unit was so capable.

Ain't that a beach?? I just think the GNX4 was an idea whose time is anytime, there's just nothing else that does all it does.

My take on it: he didn't care one way or another. They paid him.

Just look at any of the other stuff he's done. He's for sale to the highest bidder.

    My opinion, of course.

Nup...I think you - and the others - are exactly right. The GNX was a hot unit at the time and suited his purposes very well...and they probably paid him a bundle to use the GNX and create lessons/vids/etc for it. It's just his area of expertise. If he was a chef, he'd be on UPN selling pasta makers. :P

What surprised me was that he was still talking about the GNX4 as a solution to home recording in EQ Magazine long after Digitech had discontinued the product and nobody was selling it anymore. I doubt if Anderton is still receiving any money from Digitech for advertising the GNX4, but maybe his book \"The GNX4 Power User's Guide\" is still selling and that is why he still gives a shout out to the GNX4.

But you could be right. Salesmen are not going to say something bad about a product they get paid to sell. That's why I go to user reviews and forums for the good, bad, and ugly on a product.

Well, here's my experience. I have a Power User's Guide (two copies, in fact). I've read it, beginning to end. In my opinion, it shouldn't be called \"Power User's\" anything, because it goes over mostly stuff that power users already know. Also, I found the CD material worthless (thank you Craig for providing me a 5-second snippet of your own song, at all the possible sampling rates, to which I had to download a license). Again, my opinion - people will disagree, because we're all coming from different viewpoints and have different needs.

So I wrote just that as a book review on Amazon.com - to let people who are more along the lines of where I'm coming from, know that they won't find what they're looking for in this book.

CA then wrote a review of his own book, in response to mine. And he cited a bunch of people (largely from this forum) praising the book. He didn't even address any of the comments I had; in fact, his comment validate my point. Here: http://tinyurl.com/2ck4bpu

He's a pompous @ss concerned with his image and nothing else. I don't see him giving praise to anything without a contractual agreement. And I wouldn't put it past him to be reading this thread and preparing a response as to how great he is.

Wtg Iliace :!: Just made me spit up my coffee down my chin ... As I was in mid gulp and busted out laughing!

FWIW ... Me being a complete dolt didn't find the power guide very usefull either... Thought I was missing something, the way folks praise it. Maybe it's cuz \"I am a Dolt\"

No doubt you were well more advanced than most of us joining the forum at the time. I gave Anderton's book 5 stars on Amazon.com based on my experience level coming into the GNX4. I think you will also find that my Amazon review states that if you are already a power user, this book might be as much help to you as it was for me, a beginner. But I was pretty lost with just the GNX4 owner's manual and Anderton's book got me up and running. From there, the GNX4 manual made more sense.

I respect your opinion. I don't have any desire to debate a book I bought 5 years ago for a product that was discontinued over a year ago. It's just not worth the time anymore. I guess we can all offer our opinions based on our background and any potential \"newbie\" can decide for themselves. Best wishes.
  • I have nothing against the book itself; it's a good book. In fact, somewhere on this forum I gave it a pretty unbiased review. I just think that the title is misleading - I was expecting something more like \"GNX4 hacks\" and that it would get into some \"under-the-hood\" functionality, which it doesn't.

For a beginner, the Guide is great.
