rp355/x-edit help

I'm trying to download and set up x-edit for the first time, and it looks like the drivers installed okay, but when I go to open x-edit, it says:
X-Edit was unable to locate a device. This may happen for the following reasons:

- The device is not connected to your computer
- X-Edit is already running (try opening presets from within the application)
- Another application is already using the device's MIDI ports
- The USB MIDI drivers have not been properly installed

I'll admit I'm not too computer-swift, but I tried looking up how to troubleshoot these things, but come up with zilch on the website. Any help please?

  • For whatever reason.. Due to your security progy .. way things are set up in whatever progy .Who knows.. I don't!

But this happens to me all the time... I just power off then back on the gnx, and then open X-edit again and it opens.. some times have to power off 2 or 3 times.. really no biggie so I never really gave a rats tail on trying to find a solution so it opens everytime the first time..
  • Tried powering off and on, disconnecting and reconnecting the USB...nothing works.
  • I right-clicked on the icon to check the compatibility and when the troubleshooter came up it chooses the Windows XP compatibility option (I'm using Windows 7), and the \"sunburst\"-type logo comes up with the bar that says \"Identifying devices\", but it's just stuck there, it won't do anything.
  • Also...what the hell, exactly, is x-edit for? I know you can use it to change the parameters of the RP355 via computer, but do you have to have it to record with your RP355? Or do you just need Cubase and a USB cable for that? Do you have to have x-edit to download tones to your RP355?
