Gnx4 and mac

Will my gnx4, x edit etc work with a new mac with snow leopard? Can I use my patches to record in GarageBand ?

  • I can't see where you would have a problem using the GNX4 to record in Garageband if you are not using the GNX4 itself as the sound card. If you are using it as the sound card, I am not sure we ever got X-edit for GNX4 to work with Leopard - did we?

this is what happens when we get a discontinued product - we are stuck with the OS it last operated on.

If you find out something more, please post.
  • This from digitech

Hi,Anyone installing X-Edit editors on a 10.6.x OS must move the component(s) from Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components folder to /Users/~user/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components folder This is the way to get X-Edit to work on Snow Leopard. There currently is no replacement for the GNX4 Regards, William ClaytonHarman Music GroupTechnical Customer Service

so i guess the answer is yes it works, but can someone interpret this for me? what exactly does this mean?

    thanks
  • Sounds like Digitech knows how to make the old software run on your new Mac OS, but they don't have any intention of packaging that with the now discontinued GNX4 boxes still on the shelf. Also sounds like a warning that Digitech will no longer be too concerned about supporting new OS from either Mac or MS. Can't wait to hear the complaining about the GNX4 software, written for WinXP, will not run on the new Win7.

My solution to the software problem was to dedicate an old WinXP laptop for use solely with the GNX4. Both are stuck in time, but both still work just fine.
  • ive wanted to buy a new mac for a long time (never owned one before) for all my recording need using garage band and my gnx4. they claim it will work, although i am a little nervous. but i think im gonna give it a try.

i dont have very much time to play and ive spent years collecting and tweaking patches i like. why oh why wouldnt digitech just come out with a new unit that would be backwards compatable with our old xedit patches? it seems so obvious - it would almost guarantee continued sales for old discintinued product users.

the other problem being that digitech (and others) dont seem to have ever managed to create a single good installed patch in one of their units.

well, its bs. the only thing it changes is the availability of the au-component from all to only one user.

which doesn’t matter, because the plugin is not necessary for use.
    and not working anyway...

you have to select the unit in the osx-own Audio-MIDI-Setup application
and in garageband as input device.

then create, if not allready done, a new \"real instrument\" track,
press the \"i\" button which opens a drawer.

there you select the gnx as input source.

and behold the noise that comes out ;)
  • You are only partially right. The movement of the component file as described from Digitech is necessary in order for the XEDIT program to operate on Snow Leopard, Garageband or Cubase operate the same as they always have.
  • well, for me it works in both places.
just not as au-component. again, both places.
