Okay, so most of you guys have a life. :?
What have you been doing?

I've been mainly swimming, cycling and doing a little fishing for perch.
I'm doing mostly gubbermunt bid contracts at work for a machine shop, while still rehabilatating from a couple surgeries.

Not playing guitar as much as I should or would prefer...but it's summer.
Fall is my favorite time of year for Deer Hunting, then I start to think more about guitar.

It's been 50-60's here...but that's kinda typical. Should begin to warm up now though.
(we don't believe in global warming up here)

  • Been studying for my RN licence exam I will take this summer. Checked out a few bands to learn where my band can improve. Practice guitar a little, but spending more time outside doing projects. Northern Minnesota summers are short. Taking full advantage of the outsides while I can.
  • I'm having the weirdest summer in recent memory. I'd rather be hanging out with the moose. :?

I'm unemployed, having been badly skrood by my last employer. The net is cast for new gigs, but these days, even my line of work is affected. In addition, I'm nearly totally disabled by Post Concussion Syndrome symptoms, from a nasty fall on ice in Jan. I'm living in someone else's house, my instruments and studio gear are all in storage, and the money is going fast. I filed for unemp't/disability, but I haven't seen a nickel of it and they're making it reaaallllll hard for me to get anywhere with that. Dam beurocracy.

Meanwhile, my feet stink and Shania won't return my phone calls.
  • It's always slow at forums this time of year. It's when the wives put us to work dooing the taaadoooo lists.

For music related stuff, we have a few gigs out on the lake and a few shows for fair type events but most of the summer we spend creating new playlists and sets for fall/winter gigging since there is usually a lot weekends we can free up a couple hrs. Some of the guys are on Vac and what not.

I spent a day or so transplanting trees and landscaping crap which I hate doing! Plus we have like 7-8 grad parties to attend.
  • Shredd,
We just don't have enough Czars yet.

I took a 25 hr/week job sitting at a computer doing contract estimates. No benefits, and plenty of headaches for what it's worth, but it keeps me holding my head high. To make up for it, I am selling everything that isn't nailed down. Sold my Carvin amp, and several guitars, all I thought I'd never let go, among other prize possessions. But one does what they must.

This is a summer I won't forget either Bro. I am more focused on what is important.

You are not alone my friend. Millions of Americans are standing up with clenched fists, and not as stupid as the politicians believe. We will turn things around, but it might have to get rough. It's time for us all to be stronger.

Meanwhile, one has to live their life. Go walking, camp under the stars with Hagen, or a little fishing maybe Bro. Lots of things to do, that doesn't cost much, and I can tell your heart needs something to refresh your soul.
Don't let yourself get too down.
  • I'm blessed to have a job that is still doing pretty good. My work looks good well out into next year 8) I deffinetly don't play guitar as much as I would like either! Tadoo list well yeah we have all kinds of projects lined up in our new place! We have been at the new place for a little over a year & it will take sometime to get things the wat we want. We do have a pool & use it quite a bit with the kids. even with the wet colder than normal temps it is still mi to upper 70's water temp which is swimable 8) I have been out golfing a few times so far this year, I am actually playing this Friday with my brother in law. We always set off our own little fire work display every fourth of July we have family & friends & kind of celebrated birthdays & end it all with the fireworks I set off. I love to do that I have been setting stuff off since I have been in my teens, it just would not be the same without doing at least a little of that on the fourth of July! I agree though Manatou i think we will pull thru this all eventually stronger than before! At least i'm optomistic we will i choose to always believe the best rather than be wo is me & America is down the tubes type attitude. Hey if I'm wrong? i'll deal with that stuff then. BUT i choose to be optomistic & better times are comming. It has been slow around here eh?
  • Well... against all economic forecasts, I got a new contract for the band, so now we are playing four days a week !!!

For us who make a living out of music this is the best news we could have, not big earnings but at least you know that your week is safe.

We have been playing Fridays and Saturdays in a bar for 5 + years outside town and now a new bar opened near the neighborhood and we arranged a six months contract there for Wednesdays and Thursdays with a long term option that could keep us busy for a long while.

Not bad for these days huh? :)

    You are my HERO. 8)
  • I'm writing Apex Triggers for my former employer. Well, for the company that bought my former employer.

I'm also banging my head against the wall because my \"tech-speak to marketing-speak\" translator keeps breaking down and making the process of understanding what the client wants and communicating what they're getting *very* difficult.

    ...

Congrats to you and your band. Sounds like you guys will be very busy this summer.
  • Thanks 'Taus, I hope this summer will be full of Rock'N'Roll !

And Shredd: I have this experience, sometimes things go down, and down...
but suddenly something or someone comes to the rescue and everything begins to flow again.
Just keep the faith and keep your will focused, God is always around to lend a hand.

    Take care pal!!!

Thanks 'blues, I needed that. Things seem pretty grim lately...but I'd like to think the tide will turn... 8)
  • Recently became the permanent custodial parent...3 young boys. This summer isn't a wealthy one, but I'm not hurting like a lot of others. Working about 20-25 hrs a week, keeping my rate as high as I can. I pick up small general construction projects, mostly finish work lately.. got a good rep around here. My support network is top shelf, and I'm blessed to have so many around me that truly give a shyt, and vice versa.
    Fortunate man, yes I am.
I see these times ripping up families, folks I know and care about..tears in my eyes for them...and I keep hoping things will change soon.

I try to play some every day, my chops are fairly tight now and my strumming is crisp...hope to keep it that way till they chuck me in the clay..
Bringing the hodgelings along musically, day by day...We all must 'pay it forward' in some fashion.
  • Play about every day now. It is the only thing that keeps me sane with the insanely stressful job I have. I love my music, it really lets me escape. We have a gig tomorrow night and I was woking on some new lead parts for about two hours. stopped and took a break. So here I am. We are rehearsing once a week on weeks we are not gigging. The summer is about the same as last summer in that we have about the same number of clubs and holiday festivals booked. Our setlist is constantly evolving, which is cool and lately we have been doing a lot of three and four song medleys which has been going over really good with the dance crowd. Had a little drama with our bass player a couple of days ago, but I think we resolved it.....we'll see. Its all good....thank god for my music and my bandmates. I just want to get better at my instrument and enjoy my family at the same time. Definitely doable, that's what I am concentrating on.
  • Just spent four days on the coast celebrating our 25th anniversary.
Nice and quiet, no phones, no internet. Been rebuilding the fence in the back yard. Mixing down two sets of midi tracks in hopes I'll be able to go do some open mics and see how they fare. Went out jammin on the 4th with a couple of old friends at an out door party. Lots of country and swing. But did get to play some blues with duel pedal steels. Lot of fun.
Am playing at my nieces wedding in August with my brother inlaws band.
Have reconnected with an old drummer I used to play with, Maybe we can get something goin. Just enough work for the summer to stay off unemployment. And no matter how long summer is, it's always to short.
Time to go clean the roof and gutters.
