Look what I found...

Hey All,

I was surfing around today for tab to a song, and I stumbled across some free shareware that creates and plays back both power tab AND guitar pro files 8) . I've installed it and I've been using it today with no troubles. It doesnt have the fancy realistic sound engine that comes with GP5...but it doesn't cost any money either. I like that you can play both formats with it too. I don't know of any other freeware that can play GP5 files, although they may be out there.

Anyway, I hope it will benefit some of my brothers out there, heres the link;

  • It is playing my GP5 files. It seems to be using my GuitarPro sound engine, so I wonder if it is linked up?

    Thing is though, I haven't figured out how to stop this player from being the default player. All my Guitar Pro files now want to play through this TuxGuitar program. I'd like to use this TuxGuitar on just the PowerTab files...so if anyone finds a way to separate the programs, or enlist them when you want, instead of one or the other being a default player?

    Otherwise I'll just delete this, and stick with my Guitar Pro.

    Thanks Dobb!
  • Thats kinda strange. I have the trial version of GP5 right now, but I always open it first and then open files. I'll mess around with it and see if does that to me too.

    Peace,
    Dobb.

    Whoops...double post...gotta jack up my numbers since I've been gone so long hehehe
  • If you right click on a file and choose properties, then change, you should then be able to choose which player or app you want to open those types of files.
  • I've looked at the program documentation, and it does support all the GuitarPro files. It's not using the GP sound engine, like I thought, it's using a Java Sound plugin, which is nice.

    Only way I can play my GuitarPro is to drag and drop the file into it..which is fine. I just would rather it be the other way around. I'd rather figure out how to make GuitarPro the default player, and when I want to use TuxGuitar for a PowerTab file...just drag and drop it.

    I'll geek up and see what needs to be done. I hate to geek up, as I'm a caveman, and run normally on just basic instincts. I get a headache very easily on anything over a 69 IQ level. :?
  • Yep!!! Thanks jamminmj...you spared me a headache.

    I switched the GuitarPro files back over to the GuitarPro software.

    I went to Ultimate Guitar, and downloaded a PowerTab file, and figured out how to save it to my desktop. Now I can save files for both programs, and work them separately. :)
