Mesa Boogie Express 5:50
Hey all I thought I would share a brief update on my Amplifier situation. Anyhow I pulled the trigger on the Mesa, after playing it today 8) This Amp might not be everyones cup of tea BUT honestly it suits my needs perfectly! The 5 watt class A for recording Or lower volumes etc.. Although this doesa sound like a totally different Amp in this mode! Sounds great 8) 50watt for playing live at Church, or if I ever play in a band again? Just Awsome bright yes Fenderish cleans 8) I'm deffinetly Imppressed to say the least! My Strat sounds like a Strat & each switch of the pickup selection is heard very well the differences thru this Amp. Anyhow I'll keep you all posted as to how this cool little Amp works out at rehersal tomorrow I think this is going to be a good fit for me for years to come! & from what I read & have researched they are built well & last forever! I mean hey it has a 5 year warrenty is hand bult in the USA 8) for just a little more than the Bogner i was looking at. I think this is going to be a well whorth the extra money investment in my Musical future 8) Anyhow just wanted to give you all an update. Keep you posted of how this thing works out tomorrow & beyond. I will record it sometime here in the near future as well.

I'd give my left lugnuts fer one of them.
Great choice. I'm glad you gave the 550 a try. I think it is by far the better amp.
I have been thinking about getting a roland cube 60 off of e-bay. It has nice cleans and if mic'd FOH would probably do nicely live.....I'm just trying to downsize my set-up but not compromise my sound.
I never used it thru powered monitors Jim? My setup was always thru Amps. Alot of times thru thr front end. Then My setup up for years was the power block going into the back of it. My cab did have emminence mod 12's in it so it was pretty full range & sounded great 8) I just got sick of the digital sound & wanted to get my sound by an actuall amp, of better quality as well. I never owned an amp up to that point more than about 300 bucks & that was the only tube amp I ever had. Well I did try the vave Jr head which I was not impressed with not bad BUT far from great! The tube distortion/overdrive of an actuall amp is better IMOP than putting pedeals in front of it to get the sound. That is what I wanted amp that could be clean yes, overdriven bluesy yes BUT even quite heavy sounding & distorted at times. This mesa does that perfectly! I'd say in no order the biggest difference from the GNX (so far) keep in mind I've only played it about 3 times 2 of which was not with the Worship Band.
1. cleans are punchy & alive. I have always found that single notes digital type stuff never seemed to push cut thru the mix with any real presence or punch.
2.More dynanmic to pick attack/volume roll off.
3.Very sensitive much more so to what pickup position, or guitar for that matter than the GNX4.
4.The gain channel is so powerfull sounding, and in your face that sound will cut thru anything I realy have to dial the gain channel back when in Burn voicing it just domminates. The sustain on this channel & voicing is incrediable. I have certainly never played anything comparable
Lastly this thing is a whole different animal in 5 watt class A seriously sounds quiter & like a different amp. Of cource this is good for home/recording etc.. Anyhow just some thoughts & impressions of this amp 8)
Hope the honeymoon lasts a long time! Just incase you forgot there are pic, vid and audio forums here! :P Though I suspect we won't hear from you for a spell, while you break in your latest addition to your amp harem.
Happy ears make a happy axe slinger ... wtg!
Yep ya can't beat valves I reckon but its amazing just how good the gnx's reproduce these sounds...when set correctly. They're probably quite a bit more practical in this day and age too maybe??
Its interesting how the power output changes the sound of an amp. My Rivera Knucklehead (KR7) switches from 100w down to 12w and its not so much the volume difference that hits you, its the tone and reactivity thats surprising. Switch my Rivera down to 12w and it comes out with the sweetest Jazz tones and my dad pulls off a sweet arse Chuck Berry tone too. Just flick a couple of switches and it'll go all the way from smooth to twang to EVH to way way beyond. Incredible how an amp can do that! I bet Partch's Mesa pulls off the same cool tones - I'll have to go and find one at a shop and try one!!
Sounds like you're all set now Partch with your rig 8) 8)
