Flaming Lips The Wand

Anybody know what config was used for the Flaming Lips' The W.A.N.D? You know, the Dell commercial?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP8snChgBKA (Live version here, I think) Trying to approximate it, sounds like a big muff or something

Thanks

  • Sorry mate don't know it, or don't know if I know it LoL. I absorb so much, half the time I never get the title or the band. I'll u tube it or something see if I can hear it.
  • Thanks rawb, no biggie, it's not too hard to approximate that sound, it's just a distorted guitar (maybe big muff) but I like the way it sounds-I always end up with loads of distortion-it sounds distorted yet is pretty smooth. I guess it's got a bit of chorus in there, but I'm wary of putting too much chorus on guitars. The Youtube link I have above is a live version.

    Thanks again

  • Definitely sounds like a Big Muff, with the distortion not too high and the tone above 1/2.
And the big hands were beyond awesome. I'm getting some of those for next Halloween. 8)
  • Thanks Shred. Yeah, it sounds like a big muff and lowering the tone control helps cut down on the hugeness(is that a word?). The Flaming Lips are a trip live, but I think most people know them from tv commercials \"Do you realize\" is probably their most known tune, I think from a car commercial.

Using the tone control turned up on a Big Muff gives it a really hard edge; turning it down gives it a \"softer\" distortion.
The Flaming Lips? Hm. The only reason I would've ever heard of them is if they were backing up Shania.
