advice on digitech pedalboard

Guys: I have decided that I am going to purchase another pedalboard and I need to ask those of you out there for some advice on what may best fit my needs. While I do not want to get into GC bashing, I don't really like to go there with my questions. I understand their limitations considering the pay scale and all.

For those of you who don't know me, or who may have forgotten or whatever, the following describes what I am currently doing and thus what my needs will be for said pedalboard. I am only interested in Digitech products because I am familiar with them and I really like the support that comes with them and that includes you knuckleheads...ooops sorry, I meant to say yous guys.

I do love my GNX4 but I am realizing that for the last three years I am playing more and more out and I really don't like spending time in a \"home\" recording situation. I am not a \"techie\" and never will be. I spend all of my time (outside of my career) either practicing my guitar, rehearsing with my band, or playing live. Which brings me to explaining my needs:

I play primarily rythmn guitar and lead on some songs in a rock and roll band that is becoming more and more of a hard rock but dance genre. We have graduated out of the dive bar blues band scene and play at least two to three times a month excluding corporate events. I use a lot of different patches as we seek to copy the tunes as flawlessly as possible...including vocals. The venues are larger than the usual dance scene which is presenting some issues for us FOH-wise but we are dealing with that.

I am looking at all of the digitech pedalboards and am interested in the ones that provide the ability to quickly tweak downloaded patches (in other words, when playing a large room with tons of natural reverb etc, be able to quicky adjust the patch and compensate at soundcheck); have a nice wah wah pedal sound to instantly tap to; easily programmed drop tuning patches; etc. I think you guys get the drift. Not too concerned about cost as we are paid well and I am usally paying stuff off by the second gig.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Plus, I will finally have a back-up in my old GNX4

Don't get me wrong....I love my GNX4, it is just seems it is better suited for the home studio application and I am looking for something to use live where I don't need all of the recording, drum machine, jamman, loop de loop thingys......duh...its just so complicated for my pea brain and narrowly defined needs. LOLLLL.

Thanks guys.

And for you Los Angelenos, come see us at the Arena Fri night 2/27 at 999 Enchanted Way Simi Valley CA. (Is this spamming, if so, sorry guys, I tried to post our flyer but it exceeded the max allowed. There is a band opening for us that night. It is going to be really neat show).

Peace
JV

    Homers20Brain.gif...anyhoo.

Check out the RP pedals. They are very easy to tweak at will. You won't even bother with the XEdit for patches.
I bought the RP 150 (since I don't need the expression pedal for Whammy 'n stuff), and it's so easy a cave man can use it, or even a Toon like me.

  • I would SERIOUSLY look into the RP500! Or 1000 if you Need the external control of other things can be asigned I think to the extra switches. All Switches on this thing are heavy duty like you would expect for live use profesional type pedal, stompbox etc.. Anyhow this thing has a mode called Pedalboard mode & it truly functions just like that the switches each work individully as Stompboxes if you will. Overdrive/Distortion,Compressor,Chorus,Delay, and reverb. You can have one or all. Of course it also has the Expression pedal still for Volume or Wah Pedal. Which i have heard has some much better usable models than the GNX4. Each one of the effects have oodles of models to choose from & not just digitech either. This thing is EXTREMELY eazy to use & edit with no real need to hook up to the putter all though you can. & still record thru it etc.. Still has fair output options & routings & is like 200 bucks cheaper than the GNX4. Also neat note one of the switches is a bypass switch as well so now it is out the picture wallah now you have amp only sounds. Pretty Awsome looking pedalboard if you ask me! Look into it. I have been reading up, watching demos etc.. I deffinetly see one of these in front of, or in the loop of a Fender Tube miced up for one feed & the other feed comming from the pedal & letting the sound guy mix for house in the NEAR future for me 8) Anyhow take a look at it! Just my 2 cents Jim :D
  • Agree with Partch, I would go too for the RP500/1000

+1. RPs have a tone bank (amp, stompbox, compression, etc) and an FX bank (modulation, delay, etc). You pick one of each and good to go.
  • Thanks guys:

I'll look into the RPs this week. I'm going wireless and have to go to GC today or tomorrow to pick my unit up anyway. I will check the RPs out then.

    Thanks
