Free Vocal Enhancer Software

Hey, would anybody happen to know if there is any free, decent \"vocal enhancer software\" out there. I've been trying to put vocals to some of my songs and the dogs aren't even howling--they're just leaving town it sounds so bad. It seems most good enhancers are expensive and with my limited budget...it ain't happenin'. Thanks everyone.

  • I can relate. I sing like the love child of Gilbert Gottfried and Fran Drescher.
But not counting horrifying tonal quality, there is pitch correction s/ware available. Iliace has a line on it, or you can search...
  • I hear you. My vocal reverb is on 10. If it had 11, I turn it up.... I don't have a line on vocal enhancing software, but I will say that most people who sing do get better with practice. So, keep practicing and turn up the reverb. Best wishes.
  • Thanks guys. I guess if I want to sound any better I'll have to practice and buy one, and yes lots of reverb.
  • If you're using Sonar Producer (not sure about Studio) it comes with V-Vocal (since version 5) which has pitch correction and a multitude of other vocal processing tools.

One that I've used over the years is Antares AutoTune, which is basically just pitch, vibrato, and formant - very simple, and MIDI-friendly.

If you actually want enhancement and not cover up for not being able to hit the notes, you don't need a vocal-specific plugin. You can use Sonic Maximizer, for example, to enhance vocals (or even the whole mix). That is by far the simplest software (and hardware) enhancer that I've ever seen.
  • Just a thought here on FREE alternatives. You could record your voice dry on the GNX4 either in the OBR or PTP. Then you could download any number of the vocal presets for the GNX4 on the Digitech website. You could them \"Re-Amp\" your vocal track using the various vocal presets until you found the one you like best. It won't have a pitch correction tool, but it may be good enough if all you want is to enhance your vocals. If hitting the wrong notes is your problem, I would suggest that you first learn how to \"punch in/out\" with PTP (or similiar) and fix those sour notes. Then re-amp with the vocal effects.
  • There's a free one called \"G Snap.\" I downloaded it bit ago and tried it for ten minutes. It'll change your pitch, but you'll really have to work through it.

I don't have the greatest voice, and I have V vocal, but what I usually do is either 1}harmonize with myself and pan left and right, at barely audible volumes, with the main in the center; or 2} clone the main vocal, nudge, pan left and right, and shift one up and one down, and it kind of fills out the sour notes.(kinda)

G snap should be able to at least alter a few semitones, which does help.

 you mean you're sometimes off by more that 2? That's surgery, not pitch correction
  • Not all surgery is bad. With the right dr. your better than before!
  • Thanks everyone, I will explore all of these to see what works for me, but as I said I sound worse than a sick cow. I will reply back to let everyone know what worked. Thanks again.

Oh yeah, I meant cents, with the detuned parts panned left and right at a barely audible level.
  • try to search for something useful using http://rapid4me.com/ - with the help of this rapidshare search engine I alsways find something worthy. Good luck!
