Band stage setup

Is there any free 3D software program (like 3D home design, etc.) that I could use to place band instruments on a stage, then see how the stage will look when it's all set up?

I'd like to see top view (full stage), front view (full stage, looking at drums' frontside), rear view (from behind the drumset, panning left/right).

  • Possibly Visio will do something that could work. I don't have it installed on my work computer, but I'll take a look when I get home. I don't know of anything that's specific to band setup.
  • Thanks, Iliace, I figured someone might have a clue.

I'd rather have a program that I can click and drag objects (a drumset, for example), and place it anywhere in the \"room\" area, to see how it looks when it's all arranged, instead of drawing different angles or views on 3/4/5 pieces of paper, if you know what I mean.
  • Yes, Visio does that. Most people think of it as a flow-charting program, but there are numerous templates for various uses. For example, you can design a room by specifying dimensions and specific furniture items, and then it will tell you, for example, that this here chair is blocking the door from opening all the way, etc. And it's visual, meaning the chair is an actual chair, in the drawing.

Unfortunately it's also an expensive toy. The pro version runs around 150 USD.

 Umm, I just wanted a quick free program to help me setup my basement studio, without having to physically rearrange everything first...

I may just have to use one of the free 3D home design programs, and just pretend a dining room table is a drumset, and bookcases are guitar stacks...
  • Back in the day before computers were cheap, we used to build our model rooms out of cardboard boxes and made model sized items to go into the boxes. Time consuming to build, but easy to rearrange once you had everything built to scale. Add some clay people and make a claymation video of your band! Low tech rules! Not really....

Just thought I'd throw out some old school 3D modeling at you. Might be cheaper than spending $150 on software that you don't plan on using much. Good luck in finding software to design your stage. If you come across something interesting, let us know.
  • gtaus,
While doing a quick search for some kind of program, I found this:
    http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/

Search the archives for \"stage\", \"concert stage\", \"guitar\", \"amp\", \"drums\", etc., and it lists some talented graphic artwork on 3D sketch.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but I've already got a few cool ideas from seeing a few of them.
