New stuff from shredd
Got a new song up; built it around a killer acoustic riff that judaskiss sent me. 8)
I like this one, and not just 'cuz it's got a distinctly RUSH-esque vibe to it. It came together well. It's a little \"busy\", as I played with all my toys to get my mind off the naked woman in the window I saw today.
Check it out, lemme hear whatcha think:

Is this done on your new recorder? Did you sell the old one? Why not send it bak to judaskiss and get a collab going?
As far as judaskiss goes...I just asked him to send me the riff he'd done, 'cuz I really liked it and I thought I could build a good song around it.
Don't feel bad about layin' around. Some days I fire up all my gear and do nothing but jam along to stuff I've already written, just 'cuz I like playing them. And it helps me imagine Shania fawning over my songwriting genius.
Now, WAKE UP!!!
I forgot to tell about what I used in this; I was too excited about having Shania come over and tell me what a geenyus I am. 8)
Besides (of course) my GNX4 for all the git'r and bass sounds, I used both my Rolands (JUNO-D and JUNO-60), my Ibanez Musician, my Dean ac/el, my Peavey Cirrus bass, and my Zoom drum toy.
By the way - who is Paul Kossoff? Does he have a cute sister?!? 8)

Think, Free
But it's kewl that I sound like somebody who can actually play...
I remember reading this article ( i think the guy was talking about setting up a guitar to how you like it, and not how others say it should be. Or something along them lines ) But anyhow, he tells a story about how he was back stage and picks up Kossoff's ax, says he couldn't believe how screwed up the action was and he couldn't get it to sound in tune etc.. kossoff comes by grabs it and starts playing..... the aurthor can't belive how encredible it sounds.. Kossoff says ; there ain't nothing wrong with it and heads out on stage.. LoL
Like your story on your ole epi. it ain't neccesarily the ax but who's playing it. Especially in the hands of a master! And set up the way he likes it 8)
Since they had to play somewhere else the next night, all the gear had been trucked to the next venue. So the guys are playing the studio's instruments; SRV was bitchin' about how the git'rs the studio had were just crapola, he could barely play the thing.
So Clapton (a friend of SRV's) shows up to hang out, picks up this garbage $400 strat, and proceeds to just shredd the crapp out of it. Shut everyone up real quick-like.
So. Can we talk about ME now? How my new tune is so stellar, that all your wive's hott single friends are going to hear it and plead with you to set us up?!?
Ok....... Don't you have a cell phone? I mean really! A pic of the naked woman displayed in the window ( but not advertising ) Would've been a cool thing to share with your gnx brothers! At the very least a cool avatar for the song on sound click!
You have got to be the most active poster on here. I really liked the accoustic intro and the tone on the distorted guitar. I feel you took the volume swells to far, meaning from 0 to 11. I think it might have worked better going say 0 to 5, if you get what I am trying to say. I don't think the drum track quite works with this either. Maybe audition some different beats. There were also some timing problems deeper into the track.
I would be mindful of the kitchen sink aproach as I feel you might have had to much going on for a song that didn't need it IMO.
I say keep working on it and post again. I think it could be a good track.
Anyway, glad you liked the tune. After many listenings, I'd come the same conclusion - the swells did peak out too high. But I often record these tunes and finish them \"as is\", and don't pick over details like that, just 'cuz I'm only doing it for fun and self-gratification; it's not like Geffen is returning my phone calls or I'm trying to impress Shania or anything. Besides, my hearing ain't so good-ish.
I also noticed - later - that there was a small but noticeable timing/sync problem with some elements about midway through the song, during the \"hard\"/distortion segment. Again, it's stuff i probably wouldn't fuss over fixing unless they were really bad, or Geffen's A&R people noticed.
And - I also noticed how the end section had a lot going on in it...I went for a wide-spread mix, this happening off to the left of the mix, that off to the right...but it was a lot of sounds going together and I had trouble making them distinct. But I felt like they all had a place in it, so I left it as it was.
Tell me what you thought about the drums - what didn't work that I used? What do you think would've?
I think you took this too hard ,as it was not ment to to be.
Yeh! We all ,I think do this for fun, but I also think that we all want to
do what we think is good work. I just pointed out a few things that jumped out at me. As for the drum track, I will listen again and tell you at what time I felt it did not work in the track. I am sorry if my post upset you or anybody else, but I won;t blow smoke, but I will tell you how I think it sounds because deep down, I know we (me too) all want to do better. I am not out on a Shredd hunt I just wanted to give an honest opinion. Write about what I liked about the track, and what I did not like about the track. Just thought my take on it might help out to make you make a great (which I know you can do) track. Besides, I liked it . or cool tune, is nice to hear, but I post for the extra ears, to tell me what I missed , or what someone else thinks could be done different.
Opinions and a#@holes! Everyone has one.
Peace and Rawk on!
Thanks thatsastrat, Truth and honesty... How else can we grow!?
And I do know that it's a good track - I really like how it came out - but it's not a great track, as I didn't iron out the smaller details and hone it to it's best. But, like ya said, it's just for fun, so I don't work TOO hard on them. So don't apologize for being upfront and speaking your mind.
That said, I really would like to hear what you think about the drums. The other stuff - yeah, I've heard it...I could/should/might correct it, but right now I'm too busy with work, preparing for my new puppies' arrival (right after NY's), and calling Anne 20 or 30 times a day. :P
or....
wait...
then they're back! Whew.... my most critical listeners.
It's captivating. Each new idea begins before the previous one ends. And yet, none of the new ones counter-impose on the ones that have been presented. These all sound cohesive. Compositionally, without a strict classical bias, I would say this is a...
DAMN GOOD PIECE OF MUSIC!
I hope that does not offend anyone.

This could be a killer tune with a little tweaking. Nice work man.
Yeah, I'd have loved to got more elaborate with the drums - most of my songs need that - but I'm too lazy to put much effort into programming my little ZOOM drum toy, and using computer drum tools has never worked for me.
As far as strumming on different beats - I'd have to hear it, since I can't count when I play . I tend to keep my efforts pretty simple, in order to avoid sounding lame trying to do things I'm not yet capable of...
But thanks for listening!
Here I am, I've come home from work with a brainwave of how I can stick some diatonic licks in a recording..... then pro tracks won't load for me, then I have to reload the drivers......yet again..........then my pc doesn't recognise the gnx via usb............. yet again.........aw bugger it I'll go and have a beer instead......mutter, cuss, sob, sniff  ............. burp.

Sorry to hear about your PTP troubles, although I can't help but say \"told you so\". I started, and posted in, many threads about how fussy PTP is and how I'd had so much difficulty getting it to work effectively, even with a computer built for that one purpose.
After several months of this, I ended up bagging computer recording for good, since I spent 75% of my \"music time\" jerking off my computer. Trying to get it to record even a single track without static/breakups/latency. Trying to get smooth playback. Trying to get/keep the \"audio engine\" running. Blahblahblah.
So after several different approaches - none of which worked - I decided I was more interested in music than technology, and I now record on a multi-track Tascam. Now I use my computer as it was meant to be - for viewing pawrn.
Anyway, thanks again for digging the song. I really dug doing it and I hope to do more soon...
 So i wasn't the only one disgusted with it :x I had recieved a copy of Cubase with my audigy pro soundcard that came with my computer and used it until I got Cubase SL2.I was so peaved about pro tracks that it was worth $300 to by a decent program  I guess i was appreciative enough that the gen-edit stuff worked well
i feel a little better now
I'm getting a new PC built for me soon, what recording software do you all recommend now?? Also, whats the best now for getting drum loops?
So if there is virus or program it just doesn't want to play friendly with... I don't know, But it works now.
If you kind of like the look & interface like I did of PTP. Go with Sonar 5 or Higher. There is a lot of free recording/mixing software out there from what I understand. BUT I sure can recommend Sonar by cakewalk! Good stuff 8)
