I've Seen the Trees

This is a rewrite of a song I recorded a few months ago and was hoping to get some feedback. It's an odd kind of rock tune, all made with the GNX4. It's called I've Seen the Trees(that wanna lash out and kill) and would appreciate any feedback. I'm sure the volumes are off, I still have a hard time mixing.

Thanks
Robert Anthony

  • I don't know what to say Robert? I'll be honest with you. I think your tallented Musician songwritter! I'm not exactly sure what your tryin to say exactly? I mean hey maybee nothin? Maybee it's some Acid trip thing or something? Or it's word pictures I just didn't get? I realy liked the Chorus kind just the feel of that part of the song stuck in my head 8) I think the song tends to drag a tad? Not much though. Anyhow I like your stuff just not fav from you that's all. Not bad though :D
  • Antony, Pretty cool! To me, it kinda has a late 50's early 60's jazz feel at the start. 8)

I have to disagree with partch though. I don't think it drags, as much it is the over all feel of the song.

It's all in the interpetation! Ain't that what arts about? How many people stand in front of a painting and discuss/debate what the artist is saying!?

I'll take a stab at it. Trees are for the most part solidly rooted, takes alot to up root a tree. Could the trees in the song be the wealthy/Corporations/politicians? That just take and take thus reaching out and wanting to kill everyone/thing after taking it all from them?

40 yrs ago how many wondered what a ' Do Da man ' is/was. And still do! till someone tells them.. LoL How about T-Rex ' Love you like a planet ' !? LoL The list can go on and on....
  • Me like this, kinda has a Bob Dylan, David Bowie thing going on. Thanks for sharing this.

    peace
  • Thanks for giving it a listen, guys. It is a bit of an odd tune and maybe it does drag a bit, Partch. The drums and bass were supposed to carry the verses and were slamming pretty good in my DAW but after I mixed it down I compressed the whole tune and I think I squashed some of the dynamics. I still don't know how to mix very well.

Rawb, as far as the lyrics, I do tend to write a bit vague; I guess I've listened to too much Dylan. You should hear the one I'm working on tonight, I don't even know what the heck it's about. But on this one I guess it's about karma-using trees as an \"anthropomorphism\" ( I had to look it up). And yeah, I guess it does have a sort of jazz feel to it, those guitars sort of have an alto sax sound to them.

    Thanks again

  • Thanks Mike, we must have posted at about the same time. Yeah, I do like Dylan and sometimes get that nasal sound.
