Mangling The Classics #21

I don't know if there's still anyone hanging around here who's aware of my \"Mangling\" series...it's where I post my heinous covers and other such stuff I wouldn't dare post on my SoundClick site.
So...this is one I put together in about 2 hours on a rainy afternoon, using a b/t I found somewhere. The wind was howling so bad my condenser mic was picking it up.
Sadly, I didn't have the SBC, so the mix is a little thin...and I didn't bother much fussing with FX for the \"solo\" parts. And yes, I know that this playing would make Gilmour oscillate in his grave.

This is the new-n-improved version:

Here's my original \"effort\":

No. But IF he were, and he heard this mangling, he's be spinning in his grave.

Thanks Rawb. I love doing FloydBoys music 'cuz most of the vox are in a range I can manage, as opposed to the strangled-cat sound I get trying to do other songs in the proper key.
Besides, PF music is just so killer...
I s'pose I coulda made this a lot better by putting some time into FX for the solos I did, and adding the ones I left out, and doing them better altogether. And getting the SBC. Or do some (better) backing vox.
But when I don't have Shania in the hot tub to inspire me, I have a little trouble doing my best work...
  • Great job shredd! This was deffinetly a good attempt 8) So what all did you play? Just guitars? or did you do bass as well? Sounded real good here bro! 8) :D
  • Shredd, I got to listen to your Pinkish Floyd offering.

Good job on the vocals, must be the new environment. :) To be sure, I would have a hard time doing that. There are times when I think that I \"found my voice\" and then I come back to reality and realize it was just a pipe dream.

I get asked all the time \"how can you play the guitar and yet sing like some one stepping on a cat's tail?\" It's really not that hard I just open my mouth and that's what comes out.

    peace

Boy, don't I know it.
In fact, I spent some time this afternoon re-doing some of the backing vox for this stab at Floyd, and I'm thinking I oughtta take another crack at some of the git'r work too. Might as well make a decent song out of it...otherwise Anne's NEVER gonna call me back. :?

I fixed this up a bit...put it in the shape it shoulda been before I posted it.
Fixed some of the bad solos (with ones that aren't quite as bad); added some I'd left out; and used my new Roland to add some of the SBC vox.
Here's the link (I also updated the one at the top of this thread):

Good call. I put the link back in for my original \"effort\". Not that I'm proud of it or anything...
  • Very nice...the vocals are sweet
  • The new one is better Shredd! Good job man! 8)
  • Kool shredd, you sound alot like Mark Knopfler, you ever try and cover any Dire Straits?

Looove Dire Straits. They have tons of great songs. I'd cover them more often if I could play 1/10 as well as Mark K...
  • Not mangling, really but my daughter just learned Freddie King's famous guitar instrumental, 'Hide away', in less than three weeks...

Not great video or audio quality in the recording (a small digital camera with video/audio recording capability was used) but a really good demonstration of proper picking technique (JMHFO - just my humble fatherly opinion)... BTW, she uses a GNX4 (I think for 'Hide Away', she used one of the Clapton crossroads g4p patches)

Critiques are requested! Thanks in advance.

    rgds,

    Congrats on a talented dotter...gorgeous git'r too.
That said - make your own thread. This one is ALL about me. So if you're not going to critique my toon-age or fix me up with your wife's hott single friend, start your own thread.
  • oops... sorry, Shredd. Wicked nice stuff.. your toon-age. I didn't mean to step on your thread - my error - but thanks for the compliments on my daughter, and that being said, I have no wife but I will still route in your direction, any hot single female friends that I am unable to sidetrack for myself (grin).
  • Hey Chuck! what's to critique? I thought she did a super job!
If I was... MMMMMM subtract... add.... divide.... Oh about 35 yrs younger or so !! I'd be cool with her lettin' me join her band. 8) She got one together yet? Or is she filling a spot in yours? :P 8)

Thanks - on all counts. I'm glad you enjoyed my toon-age...my covers (spanning several years and various stages of my learning to record ) are all here under \"Mangling\", and my originals are on my SoundClick page (in my signature).
But yeah, yer dotter plays real nice, and will probably only get better. And the git'r is tasty.
So, yeah, when you meet chix who tell you \"let's be friends\" make sure n give 'em my number. 8) Tall, semi-dark, vaguely handsome, and a spectacular wanne-be git'r player.
