Pedal Boards and EQ
Hey guys,
Im currently in the works of assembling a pedalboard. I've been collecting a variety of pedals through the past four to five years (solid, top notch pedals, nothing cheap that can compromise my tone), but up until this time, I have not used all of the pedals together in conjunction, as I intend to do in building this pedal board. I've done a lot of research on the overall set-up of pedal boards, but whenever I come across any information about EQing in the board, the information seems either very vague or highly self opinionated (but what someone uses in their own unique setup will differ greatly from my own, correct?)
I've read that a pedal board is set up with gain based effects first, followed by stuff such as noise suppressors and tuners, and then modulation and time based effects
In terms of EQs, ive read that you can use anywhere from 1 to three in your board, but most preferably two (before or midway into your gain based effects, and then one following?)
I was wondering if anyone could set the record straight as to where the EQ's should be set in the pedal chain, and how many would be preferable or best in a moderate chain of effects (I have about 14 pedals, about 4-5 of which are gain based; the result of many hard working summers
.
Also, are there any significant differences in different brand equalizer pedals (will a boss 10-band differ greatly from digitech or MXR 10-band)
Any input is more than greatly appreciated

I just know that there are many knowledgeable individuals on this board.
Here's how I useta do it (back around when electricity was invented
EQ's FIRST - so that your signal is already EQ'd, and you don't have to EQ out unwanted frequencies after the FX.
Next, gain effects like distortion/OD.
Next, modulation fx (flangers/phasers/chorii)
Next, things like wahs/env filts/octavers.
Lastly, gates/compressors, to provide an ultimate output signal that's stable, not peaky or screechy.
And make sure there's lots of lights and LEDs. Chix dig lights. 8)

ODannyBoy, I was looking at the Fish n' Chips by Danelectro, and it seems to do the job, like you said, just as well as a Boss 10-band. The only difference is the quality of materials used and the durability (which don't matter greatly, because its an EQ pedal). Seems pretty solid, and Its pretty much 1/3rd the cost of a Boss or MXR. Hows it been working for you?
