Healing the Soul

Ok heres another calm one, and short, 2 mins. these tracks are not processed at all they are raw, exactly as recorded from Marshall JVM miked at speaker cab. Both played on the Jackson Stealth with the rhythm played through neck PU and dirty lead through bridge. one on clean chan. and other on crunch. Please let me know your honest opinion about this as Im trying to learn better recording techniques. Thanks!

  • Good effort.
Work on making the sounds blend together. Use a compresor to keep the levels from varying so much.
And have your wife's hott single friend call me. 8)
  • bstewart, That was nice, enjoyed it! thanks for posting.
  • Nice, I like it. The first guitar is so sweet, I liked it a lot. The second guitar blended in and out, its first notes scared me a little and think it was abrupt. That 2nd guitar did work for me in places. I really liked the song, but i lean toward this kind of music. very clear recording, and thanks for setup info.
  • thanks for the input and comments guys! Would normalizing the tracks get it to where the guitars are equal sounding? or would that compromise the clarity?
  • bstewart, hey I ain't know where near being recording smart , and have definitely never recorded a mic'd amp. But I am curious. Did you just put the mic on the grill clothe, or did you remove the clothe and put the mic(s) up on the speaker? As far as normaling? Why not just do it and see what happens? Then you can come and share the results, and we all learn something... LoL atleast us with no smarts.. ME! LoL good luck!!
  • Hey Rawb, Yeah i just mic the cabinet against the grill cloth with a sienhauser E 609 xlr amp mic. it just hangs off of the top of the amp. run it straight to the GNX4. believe i have it switched to direct signal, which should bypass the effects chain. its amazing how many different tones you can get just by placing mic in a certain spot of speaker. outer edge of speaker = more bass. it gets real trebley when moved closer to center axis of speaker. i just try to find a sweet spot in the middle of the two. been wanting to try ambient placement (meaning somewhere in the same room as amp) but i dont have a mic that will do that. I will see if i can post a remix of this tune in a little while.
  • Man that was sweet Brad!! I think your getting the handle on micing & recording your Amp. Anyhow realy liked the lead/melody guitar nice soulful playing! That Rythem realy is nice & gives you alot to play with! i bet you could just keep on trying things over top of it for quite a while & not get board with it! 8) Great job & thanks for sharing Brad! :D
  • Niiccce, that was sweet. Hard to beleive you recorded that the old fashioned way. I can't do that with all the noise from kids, wife, animals knocking things over, etc. Sounded great.
