Updated song \"Out of Hand\"

This is a tune a wrote a while ago (several years) and recently posted it without vocals. Well, it's kinda done, for about a month now, but since I'm still new at mixing I keep changing it based on what I learned the day before. And I don't even know for sure which version I put online. Enough excuses, and if anyone has any pointers I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Robert Anthony

It's an alt rock type of song

  • I love it

Reminds me of Radiohead a little,..... warped, like me
  • It was cool. It had a dark feel to it.
  • Hey thanks guys. I was wondering if the vocals in the clean part are too loud. I have about 20 different versions and can't settle on which one sounds best. I'm really horrible at mixing but I'm working at it.
    Thanks again

  • hey Robert.

That was nice I realy liked it!

I don't have any pointers, thought it sounded great.

were you striving for a certain sound or is it what just came out? I thought the avatar really fits the song 8) as I was listening I was thinking it has that early NY/eastcoast sound with some jim Morrison flavcr in the vocals, jmho.. hope you ain't insulted.... cuz I really do like it 8)

oops.. just saw your reply... didn't want to mention it cuz I don't know what you were striving for. But since you brought it up. the vocals could go down a tiny touch imo.. but I still like as is....
  • Rawb, thanks. Yeah, I kind of hear some Doors in there with the vocals...I've heard that before. A compliment, I think. It just came out that way...I do think the vocals need to go down a db or two in the clean part. I lose perspective with these tunes and it's hard for me to judge my own voice, but I think I'm making some improvements.

    Thanks again

  • Good stuff. Lots of elements to experiment with, as to messin' with the mix. Speaking for myself, I learned a lot about recording and mixing by attempting songs that had lots of elements and required that they be mixed just so...and a couple I did required that the different instrumental parts work with each other, which was also educational in terms of songwriting and structure.
Now, if Geffen would just start returning my phone calls... :?
  • Hey Robert I remember this tune you posted a while back. You brought this together nicely!! Great job! 8)
  • Thanks guys. I'm still having volume problems and this one seems to be a little low when compared to others I've heard on this forum and others. I'm worried about clipping but I guess I'll just have to experiment, which I pretty much do with recording, anyway. I actually have a question about the GNX4 and volume levels in the GNX4 general forum but I guess it's too vague of a topic.

    Thanks again

  • Hey Robert

Good stuff. Has a great feel to it. Has a Bob Dylan sound to it. It reminds me of this band I saw in New Orleans that played blues, Tom Petty type stuff. I think your voice sounds better than Bob. Recording sounds good. Vocals need a slight tone down. Keep em comin'
  • May I ask what gear you are using to record sir? I'd love to get that quality at home
  • Judakiss,
Thanks, I appreciate your comments, and I agree with the vocals. I've been tinkering with the vocal levels and it didn't seem to sit in the mix..

    Poetstale,
Im just using my GNX4 with my Epiphone Casino playing guitar and bass (bass patches from the patch site) with Sonar 7 PE and my laptop with an AKG precision 200 mic. Drums are midi, Session Drummer2, but I just got EZDrummer which I haven't had time to try yet.

Thanks about the quality of my recording, I've only been recording since April and the last month and a half I've basically been reading up on recording/mixing techniques and I hope my recordings sound a little better than my previous stuff.

    Thanks again

  • You are recording direct into the GNX 4 ? Or the mic?
I have easy drummer and the add on Drumkit from Hell. I highley recomended Drumkit from hell. 4 times the options to the standered kit.
  • I record guitar direct in, my amps seem to color the GNX too much and I'm pretty happy with the sounds I get, although I'm still experimenting after having it for 8 months or so.

Yeah, I've looked into the drumkit from hell as well as the vintage, and actually heard some cool rock tunes made with the Nashville kit as well.

    Take care

  • On myspace that where all done using that program. I found a real drummer since...
