new song - Crushed

Ok heres a 170 bpm song I came up with. 2 guitars mic'd through Marshall JVM. 1 guitar on heritage spkr and 1 recorded through the vintage. Sounds kinda buzzy to me but I cant seem to clear it up. This is definitely a nod to Metallica. recorded though GNX4 and added a slight chourus with para EQ and normalized in pro tracks plus.

Let me know honestly what you think, playing recording whatever. The recording sounds off to me but I don't have anything but computer speakers to mix out of. Help me out here. Thanks for listening and critiquing!

  • I liked it stew. a little long for not having any embelishments
Didn't sound bad over all a little bassy.. maybe bring the guitars out a bit more but keep the low end.

It's better than I can do .. thumbs up mate
  • hey rawb thanks for the comments! I agree it is a tad bit long without any \"embellishments\" lol! I can hear the solos in my head but im not able to bring it out of the guitar, i pretty much stuck as a rhythm player. anyways its hard to stop when you're going that fast! thats all downstroke picking too. just thought id throw this song idea out there and see what it needs.
  • You should try a low pass EQ filter on this to take away some of the rumble. I downloaded the file and played with it some and that cleared alot of it up. If you like I could e-mail the file and let you give it a listen?
  • thatsastrat, i may have to give it a run with the low pass EQ. I'm stilll learning alot about the recording process, heck I was looking right at the LP EQ when I decided to try something else! thanks for the tip!
  • i guess theres some things wrong with the mixing but i say work on the song more first. i can only hear a few parts to it and the distorted parts are very similar, even hard to tell when you play something diffrent. with your permission id like to write a part to this song, ive been wanting to write a metallica/megadeth style song for a while. if it turns out to your liking you can gladly have it.
  • BlackIbanezRG270DX, hey feel free to mess with it. im sure if the mix was better it would be more clear. For some reason i can not figure out how to mix this stuff with out it sounding cluttered. It sure as heck doesn't sound that way when I record it.
  • yeah i spent awhile listening and playing to your song and all i could come up with was a completely diffrent song and after listening to your song i think if you could make the parts you have clearer it would be a good rhythm, i tried to put a solo on top of it but the rhythm changes too much for my limited abilities to keep up. overall i say its a good song that does just need cleared up a bit, and after trying to rewrite it i ended up with a completely diffrent clean song that ill try to put up eventually. try and get a good recording software or just have that guy who put it through an eq send you a copy
  • Yeah that Boomy bottom end is anoying! Maybee try to EQ that? I wonder what caused that? The way you miced the amp? I think this deffinetly has a Metalica vibe. I agree with Rawb without some other things going on vocals lead bass drums that change up more.. this deffinetly dragged some at 4 plus min long. I liked it though Brad Nice tight Rythem!! 8)

maybe you need to bring the bass down on just the guitar tracks. if the guitar and bass are taking the same space, they'll get crowded.
  • Hi all, thanks for the tips. The tracks are all guitar only, but when I miked the cabinet it was probably to close to the edge of the speaker, dont know why this became so bassy on the final mix. I still haven't had any time to remix this set, but when I do I will try and repost to see what you guys think of the mix. :?
  • Cool riff, I really liked it. As far as the mixing goes, I don't know much, I have enough trouble with my own tunes, but lately I've been trying to find a spot for each track to sit comfortably with each other. For example, bass in center, guitars panned left and right 40% or so, kick in center, ect. You can use various plug ins to accomplish this.

Anyway, I thought it was good, just thought I'd give you some direction even though I'm a newbie.
