OK guys, here we go.
First off, after all you've heard about the songbird, here she is (with the git'r, that's her 3/4 Taylor):
So. I know all you faithful forum readers who're utterly fascinated with my life :roll: heard all about how I recorded these pristine versions of all these goofy country-chick songs I was doing with the songbird; then tried for months to get her in my studio to sing them. After an endless string of her excuses why she couldn't record, I managed to record her vox for a handful of songs we'd done - on the LAST night I was in town before moving to Colorado.
I'd already broken down my studio...so all I had to record her with was my little Fostex MR-8, which I took over to her house. We recorded 8 songs in about 40 minutes, all standing in the middle of her living room, with no headphones, and her singing - basically - to a rhythm track. 'Cuz she had to run off to see her cousin, who was in town. :roll: One of hundreds of excuses I heard from her.
As usual, she sounded beautiful, but when I finally got around to taking those trax and putting them onto my Tascam with the recordings I'd done, it was a DISASTER.
Of course, the major obstacle was syncing her vox to the songs I'd recorded. That alone was a nightmare.
Then I found that there was entire sections of her vox that, probably because of the ridiculous recording environment we used, didn't come out worth squat, and I had to eliminate them completely from the mix. Then I found that there were entire sections of harmony vox missing, so the songs that had them were finished with entire sections of vox missing.
All 'cuz this dam broad wouldn't spend one afternoon out of six months in my studio, doing takes to get them done right. :evil:
So. While I considered posting just the music, to display my incredible playing and recording prowess :roll: , they simply aren't great enough tunes without the vox. So I decided to muddle through and make what I could out of them.
The results are NOT pretty. :shock: In fact, I'm tremendously ashamed of how they came out, considering how much effort I put into the recordings before her vox. They coulda been stellar, if I coulda got her in the studio for a few hours. Dam her. :evil:
So...I'm going to post them here at DT under my \"Mangling The Classics\" series. Even though they're hardly classics, they're CERtainly manglings. I won't put them on my SoundClick site, partly cuz they're not originals, but mainly cuz they SUUUUCK.
But...after so many months of listening to me cry about the songbird, I thought y'all deserved a chance to hear her sing a few lines.
So...while I'm terribly busy with my new job and have very little spare time to work on the recordings, I'm chipping away at them and when they're finished I'll post 'em. I think I'll be able to get a few \"good\" (read, \"usable\") mixes out of what I've got.
So...BE WARNED. You get to hear my incredible instrumental tracks :roll: and her fabuolous singing voice, but on possibly the worst recordings you've ever heard. Forgive me. And send the kids out of the room. :shock:

Shred why the disclaimer? And no music yet?
If she is that good and worth hearing, maybe it's time to invest some $ and time in a nice daw! :P

This whole heads-up/disclaimer thing is to explain how I could record such a gifted vocalist with such dismal results. I'm blaming it on her, since she turned down about 142 offers to sing in my studio - with a fine condenser mic, sound-iso headphones, a good mixer, home-brewed vox booth, AND the original trax she'd be singing to!!!...and instead had me show up at her house on my last night in town with a $100 digicorder to record 8 songs in 40 minutes standing in the middle of the living room with no headphones. Disappointed? ME???
And Rawb...jeez. I thought I was a jaded old man. :P
As for the music - it's coming. Or at least breathing hard. I said I was busy with my new job...give a brutha a break!!!
But...the fact is, she's a sweetheart, plays a adequate git'r, and sings like an angel. I'd be thrilled to have a woman like that interested in me.
Anyway, I'm gonna post the songs - or what I can save of them - so y'all can hear her sing. The songs I recorded are great; her singing is terrific; I just can't seem to put separate recordings together into cohesive songs. I guess Mutt won't be helping me out, now that me n Shania are hot-tub buddies... :twisted:
....so if there are 13 parts, I will never find the songs.

There's a whole series of posts I made in the Members Music Review category, and they're all labeled \"Mangling The Classics #xx\". So...you could either use the search function - use \"Mangling\" as the search term and limit it to the MMR - or just go to that category and look down the list.
Alternatively, you could go to DT's sound community, look under Member Music in the GNX4 category, and sort by name, and look for \"shredd\".
I did a search for you, but the link was a generic search result, not specific to mine...sorry...
