Good to Me RUFF CUT

Hey all it has been soooooooo long since I've done anything new. Busy, just moved 3 weeks ago etc.. I was very reluctant to even post this it's just the basic Idea as to how the song will go. Just a 1/8beat GNX4 loop & Acoustic guitar recorded as 1 track on the onboard recorder. & a vocal track done in Sonar after track was imported into the project. Key will most likely be lowered! No Solo as of yet? Maybe it will be on the Strat if I have it by then? 8) Anyhow this is just basically to show I'm still alive & ocasionally get some inspiration & time to work with it 8) :D

  • That definitely has potential. I have been thinking about writing some praise songs, but I go to a very conservative a capella church and all we sing are hymns. As such, I really have no experience from which to build. Maybe you will inspire me!
  • Hey thanks Jeff! Yes I do believe this tune has lots of potential! I can tell when God truly inspires me thing just flow 8) Somtimes you have a Lyrical Idea or as far as that goes a Rythem Groove or Melody line to a song & things just don't come together? Well I can tell this one is comming together quickly & the Lord is giving that guidance! Don't get me wrong I still have alot to do many hours yet BUT this much came in like 2 hours & I pretty much know what I need to do so it will just take some good several hour sessions & I think I could be done & the song should sound & be cool! Thanks again Jeff! Have you ever thought of finding a more contempoary Worship serice to attend weekly? I just love playing on our Worship team in the modern service at my Church!! I truly look forward to experiencing His Presence each week & when I'm away I miss that blessing Big time!! Not that there is nothing wrong with the way your Church Worships! We also have a more Traditional service as well 8) :D
  • partch yea bro. that was nice, definate potential! I liked it it!

What is your accoustic? Were you using any fx. To me it sounded like an ovation sound!?

Let us know when you get it all worked out! 8) For sure want to hear a completed version!
  • Right on Rawb. Ovation Elite 1778-lxHB. Awsome guitar. I record my Ovation direct in the mic input Dry I do use a matching Tx-former convertor so I can just use my standard guitar cable. I did eq & such in Sonar! Trying to fatten & dress the drums up some. Probably was not even whorthn the extra effort cause of how ruff & raw this is BUT oh well I tried to make it sound a little respectable? I think it is to boomy (BASS) Did not notice thru the monitors? BUT now converted MP3 thru my computer Setup which has a bass module it sounds a little overdone on the Bass side. Anyhow thanks for the listen Rawb!! I will deffinetly post the completed version! Hopefully you will hear some Strat Tones in it, and it does not take Months to complete! :D

No need for \" \" I am one who appreciates that raw/ruff sound! LoL hence the name \" RAWb \" ! That and it is a testament to my own fret board capabilities and knowledge! LoL!!

Every song has a melody(everyone reading this knows that, or should!) But imo, how you dress it up and embelish it is alot of what most would call refined. A \" medium level \" player or better should be able to see/hear that in a ' ruff track ' and should see it's potential. Once again my opinion.

I myself only post sample/idea clips cuzz in some warped off beat mind set, I thought it would show others that you don't have to be a gifted song writer or player to post here! I know there is more than the ten people who post here, reading this forum! And I would like to see/hear more of them. I have seen some of the posters here perform live. And I'll tell ya they make me embarrassed to say I am a player. Yet they don't post sound. As I really appreciate and enjoy those who truley post some wonderful tunes, I also want to hear from those of us that are still climbing the ladder they shouldn't worry about ridicule. And anyone who blantanly slams someone for posting their progress should be Banned! Yet a poster should be able to handle constructive critism!.

Partch, sorry for going off on a tangent on your thread. Please accept my apologies for that. Maybe the good thing is it will create some banter and keep you bumped up! ...... Rob
  • No prob Rawb :D I feel exactly like you! I welcome newbs that you can see & hear have a long way to go, & to watch them actually improve & get better a the while posting there progress here. 8) I know that is what I've done. & yes I Know I have a LONG WAY to go! BUT I'm going to keep on inching ahead :D
  • Partch!!! Do you mind if I put this on a cd and let the congragation give it a listen? I love it! Man you can tell when the Lord is moving through a piece! It just seems to flow and it catches the listener as if he/she were right there!!! Thanks for this one.

Scott do with what you feel led to do. My only goal for my Music is it to glorify God! If it can be used the way you expressed? Amen So be it. I'm deffinetly going to work on this song & make it real tight! Add a Solo, better more Human Drum Track, Bass Line & most deffinetly Lower the Key to B flat to suit my Range better. Thanks again bro for the kind words! :D
  • Hi there Partch, I may be slow but I finally listened to your latest praise offering. I like what you have started. Hopefully the Strat will be along and we can hear that too.

    Thanks for sharing

    peace
  • Hey thanks for the listen Mike! Yes I hope the Strat is in by then as well!! I will be on vacation all next week 8) So It will deffinetly be at least 2 weeks till I work more on this tune. Hopefully by then I get the call!! 8) :D
  • Everything is there partch, great lyrics and a very pleasing melody. I could make this song come alive with a few strings, some piano and a solid bass line. Your vocals are improving every time I hear you. This is a
strong tune. Not sure why you would hesitate posting it.

It always starts and ends with the writing. You have a strong song here. It just needs production. I sure wish I was living next door...we would have a great time recording this puppy.

Well done to both of you :)
  • Well thanks BuzzHaze! I appreciate the kind words! It would certainly be cool if you lived right next door! I'm sure I could learn tons from you 8) Anyhow I'l keep you all posted as to how this turns out completed. I have no doubt it will come together fairly quickly! Thanks again all for the listen & the kind comments! 8) :D
  • Great tune, great melody!...you need to 'flesh\" this one out!...unusually \"dark' tone & atmosphere for the subject matter ...
  • Hey thanks for the listen Cobalts! I'll do my best to bring it all together. Thanks again for the feedback! I appreciate it! 8) :D
  • That's got a good tune Partch. Keep workin on it. I like the way it sounds now. I know it'll sound great when it's done. To me it's got that old campfire feel to it. I like when you sang \"They will not ever fail\" and then hit the guitar. Do that more.
  • Partch,
The quality of the recording sounds very good. Did you use the Ovation for this? Good accoustic sound! Which Sonar are you using?
  • Hey thanks Rodger for the kind words! This song will change some. I plan to better the drums, add some Bass, & Electric Guitar Hopefully some new Strat Tones if I have the Strat by then?'

Strat man yes this was the Ovation recorded direct in the mic input with drums loop 1/8th beat all 1 track on the gnx4 onbaord recorder. I inported that track into Sonar 5 Producer & took the Vocal in 2 takes was not happy with the first take at all! it is still high for me & will be lowered for my my vocal range. As I said hopefully you will hear some Strat tones in this more completed version of this song! 8) Thanks again All!! :D
  • I don't know how you can stand it. I'd be having Strat fits every day, waiting for that thing.

That said...nice! If this is a first cut, the tune has HUGE potential.
    Here's my nickels' worth:
Definitely drop a coupla semitones; A to G, whatever. Basically, play the song in the key your voice is most comfortable in.
I like acoustics to have a nice, clear tone; I'd have upped the mids/treble a hair. Especially with those clear, crispy drums. And make sure you aren't recording with spanked-out strings...
If I were going for a building feel, I'd start introducing subtle, sustain'y electric in the background somewhere after the first verse. If you're going for pretty/ballad-y, perhaps secondary acoustic track, with plucked chords using some chorus and/or mild delay?
Making room for a pretty non-distorted solo would be nice too. And it'd allow you to solo over the same verse and use a different sound while soloing, to \"break up\" the (is there a nice word for monotony?!? ) of the melody. Maybe even write a chorus or break/bridge section.
Sadly, I don't have the faith you do - otherwise I'd be less interested in the petty sonic details of the song and more in the lovely message. Very well done!!! 8)

Good stuff eric! I can't beleive you have time and attention to write new songs so soon after moving; I've been here a week and I just finished setting up my studio and picked up a git'r last nite for the first time in over two weeks.
  • Hey thanks alot Shredd! Very cool sugestions as well! Yeah I'm very suprised of the inspiration to come so soon when so busy & settling in etc.. I've only played a few times in my place since we moved back in June! Thankfully I play at Church & rairly miss there except when I'm away or I would litterly hardly be playing of late! Well I suppose with major things such as moves, busy at work, busy at home! Wife & 3 Kids the Lord Blesses! I do O.K.. Yeah it is hard to wait for that Strat Man! BUT that phone is going to ring any day now! 8) It will most deffinetly be whorth it then! 8) :D Thanks again Shredd. Stay posted for the completed song. :D
