On the Road Blues

This is a song I wrote 17 yrs. ago ( back when I had a touring band) that I never recorded so I decided to lay it down. All comments are welcome.

  • Excellent job man! I realy liked it! 8) Drums could have changed up a little? Not bad though at all. How did you do drums for it? Midi file? sequence it? Just wondering. :D
  • thx partch, the drums were sequenced and they are sparse by design i guess, originally I had put in more fills , but I felt it was a little busy. I liked the overall feel better with it being more open. To each his own I guess. I was going for a more \"gospel\" type of sound, if that makes any sense. :)
  • Understand man. Not saying I did not like em. Don't get me wrong that was just something I noticed. I think you did a great job on the song!! 8)
  • Fantastic!!!! I'm a big Little Feat fan. The keyboard playing is stellar and I *love* the vox. The guitar sound is clean and fits perfectly.

man, o man, I like this stuff. You did capture a gospel feel but you have also managed to keep the song cool and slinky.

    MORE...MORE...MORE!!!!!

Did I mention the vocals are excellent? lol

    You have a new fan
  • partch, thanks again for the comments and sorry if I sounded like I was sulking about your comment on the drums...really I wasn't. All criticism, good or bad, is welcomed. How else do we know what to do or not to do next time.

Buzz, as you can tell I'm a big fan of little feat myself, Thanks for noticing the homage. Thanks for the kudo's on the vocal as well, I try my darndest, lol. I really cant take credit for the keys, they are all sequenced, except for the organ solo, I played that one live, but I thought they fit very nicely, so there they are. I just wish I was as prolific as you are...you seem to crank out a great tune every other day...how do you do it?

Once again thanks to all for listening and commenting.
  • Loved the vocals and the lyrics were great. I have to say though not a big fan of Band in a Box. I could be wrong, but it has that sound. This would be killer with real players. Still thought it was really good, no, a very good song. Nice job.
  • Thanks strat, your comments are appreciated. No it is not Band in a Box, but it might as well be. I got most of the backing from a casio keyboard I recently purchased. It's a cool little toy, definetly not pro gear. I'm having some fun with it though, It's amazing what they can package for chump change these days. I do agree with you, it sounds sequenced like BIAB,but when thats all you got you work with what you have, right(LOL) I couldn't play the keys that well if my life depended on it.
It would be great to record this tune with real musicians, if the chance ever came around. I used to play this in our live set years ago, but it had a different arrangement, more uptempo, it always went over well.
My days of having a band are behind me...I don't have the patience for it...or the stamina required to keep a band together anymore, its alot of work as we all know. I'm happy to noodle out here in the studio and jam occasionally with some old friends of a like mind.
Thanks again for listening and for the feedback...it's all good. :D
