mesa simul 2:90

Is anybody out there using the Mesa simul 2:90 in their rack with the GNX4 and if so, what are the comparisons you have found between it and the powered monitors or Atomics?

Thanks,

JV

  • I haven't used a 2:90 in a while but do use the 50:50 with a customized pair of 2x12's ( or single 212 stereo). There still is a fair amount of Mesa compression in those amps, so again, you need to disable or lessen the amt of compression when you crank those amps. Results vary especially with the tube series used. Compared to the Atomic, I'd go Mesa, just remember live setups always can change depending on the environment of the venue.

Some have setup the GNX Mesa power amp config and choose to not use speaker models and a 3d party DI like Ultra G100 or something like that. It all depends on the styles and arrangements of your preset that mate to the cabinet on the 2:90 etc and that cab's speaker voicing.

V30's are middle of the road
G12H's are mid punchy, mild top end
Wizards ( eminence) are close to the G1275's but with more low end.
Swamp Thang's are Low end, Slight mids, High treble.
Modeling 12's Eminence are flat voiced.

Overall sound is going to be impacted haevily on the speaker type voicing in your cab. Atomic's are voiced pretty flat. To some, they prefer tweaking to their own cab over the atomic, power engine, etc.
