Hey I got a new fiddle for my b-dAY!!

:D My wonderful wife blessed me with a new acoustic guitar for my B-day!!. C101328010-front-l.jpg

So I went down to guitar center and picked up the new artist series Gibson humingbird. Nice guitar. Got it home to find out some one had had the truss cover tighened so tight it cracked the cover and cracked the finish. minor but also I noticed after close inspection it had a crack behind bridge running along the center woodgrain in the spruce top. So very reluctantly I took it back  and showed them that indeed it wasnt new and had these some minor one major defects...they put it back on the wall to sell as new again!

Anyhow to make a long story even longer  ...
I picked out a Gibson Songwriter Deluxe (no cutaway).
The Songwriter Deluxe has a top made of solid Sitka spruce and back and sides made of solid rosewood. The mahogany neck has an ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl inlays. The soundhole rosette is made of abalone, and the tuners are Grover gold kidney variety. The body, neck are bound with white and black binding, rosewood over the top of the mohgany neck on the headstock.
I am toally blown away by the workmanship and attention to detail on these guitars. But more importantly the sound of this acoustic is just well balanced. Through my GNX and through my LR baggs Para DI it sounds gourgeously rich and thick with a sparkle of highs on top. Like a Martin meets a Taylor. I am truly in heaven acoustically this week. It play just like my SG...that easy on the fingers the only way to tell the diffrence is when you try to bend 12's
youguys need to try one of these babys out. Now in retrospect I am so glad I got a bad humingbird to start with. Huming birds are so Mellow and sweet that if I hadnt had a defective one I would have been so happy and never discoverd the \"songwriter\" series. They have more presence in the mix and just feel heaver built for my R&R needs too. It truly is only a matter of personal taste once you cough up enough cash to get something really well built. Martin, Taylor and Breedlove all had great guitars in this price range. (around $2000.00) but I must say the songwriter series was clearly the one for me. Peacout!
two thumbs way up!!

I don't see many Gibson acoustics here in Oz and after seeing yours I might go try one out some time soon. Do they make this series in a electric also??

This is an electric acoustic. it has an active L.R.Baggs transducer pickup under the bridge. There is a tiny roller wheel at the top of the sound hole hidden so you just run your finger over it for volume.

Gibson makes a cutaway version with a fishman eq too. but its cut into the top of the rosewood and is just not for me. reviews say it sounds great though. But its always been a full on dread for me.
  • Cograts Danny!! Now we need to hear that thing! 8) Been a little while since you posted. That would be awsome!! Hey I'm stoked as well!! • First of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY (a little belated) :D

    Very tasty guitar, enjoy!

    Peace
  • H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y TO YOU !!!!!(I'm alot older though-45). What a great gift from the misses. I have played on one and it was great, action was lower than any other accoustic I ever played. I guess when you pay $2k for a guitar, thats what you get--a great guitar.

    Nice, now lets hear it.
  • Congrats all around!!!for the guitar AND surviving 43 years 8) 8)
  • Happy Birthday!

Nice fiddle. Can't wait to hear some new tunes from you on it. Sure it will be nice!

  • Happy B -day !!! ( belated)..

Nice guitar ! bet you'll be cautious of friends giving it a go!!

No buckles! No snaps! No metal buttons!

That's how my other guitarist is with his Martin.

This happened to me...not that my Dean Exotica is any $2K Gibby, but...
I had it at a jam and there was a guy there with no ax, so I let him play the Dean. Never gave it a thought. He put it back in the case.
When I got it home, it looked like he'd eaten an ice cream sundae with his hands before playing it. It was disgusting. I cleaned and polished it for over an hour, cleaned and oiled the fretboard (full of goo  ) and restrung, before the git'r was back to how it was. Gross.
Since then, I never lend instruments.
  • Yea I have a humidifer now in the case  ...trying not to be too picky but it hasnt got a scratch on it yet , the first ding is always the worst  and none of my buddys wanna be the first to do that  so they only check it out for a few before grabbing there own axe to play.
I would post some tunes but I am so busy learning tunes right now ...I have to do a quick demo for a club soon so I'll get something posted (like a cover tune) soon. Thanks everybody for the birthday congrats too :)
  • Great guitar. Great wife. What more can I add? Happy Birthday.
