Rescue Me
Hey all. It's been a while since I have been out here. I have so many ideas and songs I am working on, I need to focus on one or two to get them out here more.
This is a redo of a song I did about two years back. I fear I have 'over-processed it'.

Mixing/Mastering:
-Is it to muddy? It is so hard to mix distorted guitars with a bass guitar. They take up so many of the low frequencies.
-Is the mix balanced? Anything louder or quieter than it should be?
Musically:
-How is the arrangement?
-What do you think about the wah guitar.
-Is it catchy?
I wrote the lyrics and played all instruments but the bass, my bro did that.
I appreciate your candid feedback. Thanks.

Nice job though.
Here's my take - since I'm LOOKING for things:
The mix is pretty good. The instruments are all pretty intelligible. You're right about the bass - a bit less \"high\" on the bass (probably about 4-500Hz) and more low-mid and low (probably about 200 down) would make it stand out a bit more. Also mix so that the bass and gritty git'r are away from each other.
The gritty git'r overwhelms the mix...the tone is perfect, but it's a little to out-in-front of the mix. Tone it down a hair, it'll allow other stuff to emerge...(unless, of course, you're going for the heroin-addled trampy-groupie crowd...)
The arrangement is good, if a little \"busy\". But a very catchy, gets-ya-grooving song.
The wah? Meh. Less is more.
Also - the swirling channel-to-channel stuff in the intro is great, but again, less is more...
That said...it's great, and a lot better than what I've been doing lately...
Also, the drums sound like they're almost in a different setting - sort of London-style mixing, but doesn't quite work for this type of song. Try adding a little bit of reverb, and apply it to all instruments. The way I do this is create a bus and route track aux sends (or subgroup sends) to it, then mix it in at the master where you have the overall compression, mastering effects, etc. This way you can adjust the balance: a little less reverb on the lead vocals and lead guitar (make them upfront), a little more on rhythm instruments, and a tiny bit more on the drums. Just be careful not to muddy things up. And to answer your question, as it is, definitely not muddy; it's a pretty clear mix.
Another tactic for hollow drums is to run a drum compression bus, and send the drums there, then run that out to wherever drums meet with the main mix. It's a good solution for punchy, full-bodied drum tracks.
I can't hear much of the wah, but it sounds like it fits. I don't think it needs to be any more prominent in the mix than it already is.
As far as catchy... well, I liked it. It reminded me of something like C4 (less the ridiculous guitars), or Pretty Maids.
And no Shredd my intent is not to attract herion addled trampy groupies....unless of course they look like Cameron Diaz
Thanks again.
